Jeven, one question for you. Have you tried comparing RS vs HS when using the same resolution and framerate? I see you compared 4K60 on A2 and 5.3K60 on the H10. 4K/60 on the HERO10 will allow you to shoot in High HyperSmooth. I believe that would be much more comparable? REmember that 5.3K60 only has Standard HyperSmooth available. Maybe that makes it more apples to apples comp?

    1. None of the modules are waterproof. It severely limits you on your storage and battery life.

the frame at 6:56 tells you everything you need to know. DJI's product seems rushed and not mature enough to be considered an actual GOPRO competitor. They don't even include a standard threaded mount for the DJI really tells you everything you need to know about the thought of the product.

Can you elaborate a little? I'm not seeing it at that time code. The acton 2 lacks a little of the fine detail, but it overall is a more pleasing image to my eye. The go pro looks over sharpened and harder to work with in the larger frame. As for the threaded mount comment, I'm in a wait and see state, we shouldn't be too quick to judge the failure rate of the mag mount, but it's definitly a concern.

I just got a Hero 10 on October 29th, upgraded the firmware and on October 31st took it out to Anza Borrego firmly mounted to the dash of my 4Runner. Among other shots, I ran the Hero 10 at 5K 60fps with boost stabilization for 21.5 min and later for 29 min just letting the camera roll while I drove. The a/c was on in the 4Runner, but not going out the defrost vents. The outside temp was 91F. I had no overheating problems at all. Sure it got warm but never quit on me. The images of the landscape were rock steady and the horizon level even when I was off camber while going over obstacles. All to be expected from that camera or the A2. Just thought I'd report regarding my experience with the GP H10 and overheating which can be quite frustrating. As far as which cam I think is best from your demos, they are both great and each seem to excel in different situations. By the way, thanks for all your great content - it's been very helpful.

For Overlanding I just use a DJI Pocket 2 with the do it all handle, scosche mini magnetic plate on the back of the main body (the one they sell for smart phones) and any of the scosche (or any brand) magnetic mounts for your dashboard, like the suction cup with magnetic mount. It will hold the pocket 2 with ease (even in rough terrain) and you can flip the gimbal with ease back towards you to get a in cab POV, then back out towards the trail. I ran it in Utah at the MotorTrend Overland Adventure 2021 on my dashboard at 4k 24 and it never overheated or failed (also kept it plugged in charging while in use so it was ready when I hopped out of the cab). Then you can grab it and go super quickly and have a small gimbal camera. Since the Action 2 doesn't have a replaceable lens cap, I would prefer the GoPro on any mounting solution outside the cab while in motion.

  • @justjoe5373
    @justjoe5373 Před 2 lety +3

Writing this as a guy that has never filmed or edited any video in my life so I'm just going in as a layman
Gopro's sound is better, like the DJI's sound is less realistic(?) and more like those cheap headphones with a crappy mic (not that bad but you get the point), but nothing that another mic won't fix for the DJI. If you're gonna vlog with it and don't wanna bother with mics then Gopro beats the DJI due to the better sound quality out of the box but if you're gonna do something like motovlogging you're gonna get a mic for the helmet either way
I prefer the DJI's video becouse while being very similar in low light you can see the Gopro shake and jitter a lot more at the last part of the test video while DJI is way smoother. Also I noticed that when transitioning between low light and normal light when you were exiting the cave the DJI needed less time to adjust to the change in light in addition to being less shaky
Man does the DJI beat the Gopro in that running video, like both the color and the stability. I don't know how Alaska looks like but the Gopro was way more muted, like everything is greyed out, while DJI is more saturated. With the Gopro water is grey, sky is grey, foliage is grey, and with DJI water and sky are actually blue and foliage is colored
At the hyperlapse I prefered the Gopro becouse the ground was way clearer on the rocks, but DJI becouse the colors are more vibrant in the woods, so I guess that one depends on the environment
At the 1080p 240FPS test I didn't see any differences
At the end of the video with the clips from both the DJI and Gopro, well both are good and the video quality is fine I think. Now I can't compare it directly becouse it was filmed in 2 different locations but I'd watch a video filmed by either without issues
The DJI overheating issue when you push it to the limits, while being a problem becouse the cam is made to record at high quality, won't be an issue if you use it outdoors and not in an office unless it's like 40C outside. Now the Gopro freezing is IMO a much bigger issue becouse when you're recording out in the wild and it freezes you've lost the footage, that's it, no way of fixing it. The formatting issue is just as big a deal as the last one becouse just like with the Gopro freezing and losing footage, the DJI can format itself due to the environment and delete all the footage. And yeah, resolution isn't everything when most people have 1080p 60Hz screens at home, they're neither gonna see 4K nor 120FPS, but the higher resolution is still better than lower

Nuts. The initial reviews of the GoPro 10 have said they haven't faced the freezing issues of the older models due to the new processor. Looks like that's not the case and I can't count how many times I've had the GoPro freeze up or refuse to write to a card (that it wrote to previously) at the most inopportune moments along with it happening randomly which makes isolating what caused it impossible to do. I have the DJI Osmo Action and GoPro Hero 8 Black. The DJI has been extremely reliable no matter how much abuse I put it through especially while on my motorcycle riding in some pretty harsh conditions. The GoPro Hero 8 was relegated to getting rear set shots as I didn't want to trust it with the front end shots. Even after all the firmware updates the Hero 8 still acts up randomly. The Osmo Action actually improved quite a bit, even the image quality, with each firmware update.

Both Samgungs are 128G capacity. Mine was I lost a couple of chapters within a clip. I don't shoot for hours at a time, and most of my clips are maybe 10 minutes long all told as I stop down, start up for each segment of a shoot. I do occasionally loose the connection to the app when using, but not always. Not had any overheating issues in that it constantly did so. I may have had it overheat once and it does get quite warm though.
I do think some things are human error caused by not fully understanding the camera itself.

But, appeared to have more image noise in those shadows. The DJI appeared to have a sharper, more crisp and lively image with more accurate white balance control. Need to see more on Manual vs Auto control on these models. Audio was a Pick-em. GoPro with audio sensitivity bias on closest-to-camera sound sources, while the DJI had a flatter location sensitivity bias. My only real concern about the DJI is hitting the Format Button ! I have a go pro hero 8, its a great camera but the original one I had stopped working altogether, Go pro sent me a new one, thanks for the comparison I am strongly tempted to get the DJI action 2 due to its size and a better stabilization, in due course of time I am sure it will improve by new firmware updates.

Can't pick a single favorite. For size, flexibility, stabilization, the DJI. For low light, the GP10. So, my personal sum: DJI, but not in the dark. And I can't see carrying both.
A deal breaker might be -- how they work on a motorbike, scooter, bike.

i feel like the image quality is better on the gopro and it’s internal color grading is also superior. The DJI seems to have focus issues and sound quality is bad imo. But that’s just my opinion from a couple videos 🤷‍♀️

Both are great cameras. I believe this video shows the need to have both cameras as they are both #1 in different areas. I already have the GoPro 9 and don’t see the need to upgrade, but I will be grabbing an Action 2.

I've bought GoPro10 and addressed the same issues like shutting off, freezing a lot on 4k120fps footage. I've lost a lot of precious work for these reasons. Obviously, I've returned GoPro10. I'm kinda sad to hear that DJI has an overheating issue so I will just wait for both companies to fix their products until they are safe like GoPro9. At least, you won't lose anything on GoPro9 4k60fps.

  • @cahn7435

GoPro freeze issue is definitely unacceptable to me. The major reason I would get a tiny action camera is because it's convenient to use. POV/quick shot I think Action 2 is more convenient. Was considering Go 2 but Action 2 can have more storage and less likely to overheat than Go 2. Getting Action 2 for recording my family videos.

I have to say I'm disappointed in the action 2 as a kayak Angler I was hoping it would have the ability to use a external mic and USB power bank at the same time...how hard could it be to include a 3.5mm jack?
Maybe they will come out with a power module that has one in the future but not holding my breath LOL

Both cameras make great photos and videos but in reality, both cameras also heat up quickly. Good thing though that they're acknowledging this issue and coming up with solutions to this problem. DJI has started launching the protective case that helps lower the temp of the Action 2 while in use, which I think is a good start! We're still waiting for how GoPro will address this problem but it's evident that we're slowly upgrading to better and more functional action cameras than before!

Very good comparison and good points totally agree that both look better in certain shots so it's hard really to pick one over the other. The question I have is how is the app for the DJI action? The GoPro app has become super helpful on the road when wanting to do quick edits and export them directly to the iPhone in 4k whereas with the DJI Air2 all my cool 4k shots are downsampled to 1080p when exporting from the app which sucks and makes it so you really have to do the edits on the macbook

Good news regarding accidentally formatting the SD card ... usually the data is recoverable for a reasonable cost. Immediately stop using the card and contact a reputable data recovery facility. The best recovery occurs if you only add data to the card since the last formatting (i.e. no file deletions between formatting [unless you batch delete all files at once, which is also similar to the impact of formatting]). Even with a few intra-formatting deletions, recovery will still be very good, depending on quantity and size of deletions (and new data added). Hope this helps somebody out who mistakenly believes they have lost a day of valuable work (depending on your paycheck, the recovery fee is often less than recreating the work).

I don't know if The Edge Browser is to blame, or whether you did something funky when rendering this video, but even in 4k the DJI and GoPro footage looks like it's in very low resolution. I kept looking whether CZcams had reverted to 240p while watching the beginning 30 seconds. The DJI footage especially, but at 2:06 for instance, the GoPro footage looks like it's in lower resolution than the GoPro 10 is even capable of

    Thank you for good videos.
There are so many different types of ND filters that fit the GoPro Hero 10. My question is which one is the best, it's not a question of the price but from which company is the best.
There are from Sandmarc, variable ND filters. Tiffen has 3 ND filters plus 1 Polarid filter. Polar pro Shutter Collection, Neewer 4 pack filter ND and Telesin has Circular Polarizer Filter. Maybe there are some other filters that are better?
    Grateful for answers.

I have the Osmo Action 1 and I like it better than GoPro 7 and 8. This round, DJI still has better color imo but it's the gimmicky magnetic mount and the wider fov (I know it's a plus for lots of people) that ruined it for me. And may I know the background music in for the last test footage?

Which ever is better definitely comes down on how would you use the cameras. But it seems that the DJI is more like a camcorder than an actual action camera. I have the GP10 for a while and luckily dont experience much freezing.

  • @lttlejordan23
    @lttlejordan23 Před 2 lety +5

Interesting comparison. In some comparisons, the Action 2 was the better performer and in others the Hero 10 took it. The ice cave part really showed where DJI made giant strides though. That said, during the microphone test, I thought the Hero 10 sounded a bit better (subjective) and the video in that particular scene was better on the GoPro as well. Move over to the time lapse and I thought the Action 2 had better colors and overall quality. Both subjective opinions though. Features wise, they both are deep. Though I will say the Hero10 is waterproof to 30ft, Action 2 10ft. If you do alot of water content, that may be a big factor for you. So it really is down to personal taste & use between the two. I will say, at base price, the Action 2 seems like the better camera. But when you factor in the price of the second screen, a second screen that comes with the base Hero 10 at no extra cost, then the value begins to drop a bit. You almost need to pay the extra price with the Action 2 so you have the option of a secondary screen when you need it. Is that worth the extra $120? Maybe. But then again, you could also get the Hero10 with the light and mic mods for that extra price. So it just comes down to what setup meets your personal needs. Two strong cameras. I current own a GoPro, but I am enticed by what the Action 2 offers.

I think GoPro 10 looks a bit better but I really hate the idea of randomly shutting down or freezing. So, I kinda decided to go with DJI Action 2. Well, until I saw the price, it's exactly the same with the screen (you'll need that, GoPro comes with one) as GoPro 10 here where I live. Now, if GoPro only fixed the issues. And I assume the battery life is still crap. One of the reasons I returned my GoPro 9.
