the whole key ingredient breathes such unique life into all the song. For Iron Lotus, The original feels like the anguish and grief and anger that xiao felt at losing her husband. It really emphasizes that feeling of her unstable mind. The Key ingredient version is so much softer and gentle. It breathes regret, sorrow, Depression. Its the feeling of Xiao in retrospect, someone who understands the situation, and chose to live for thier wishes, instead of her own.

A lyrical difference between the original and key ingredient versions of this song are those little parts where a line is (or isn't) repeated. For instance, the only line that isn't repeated in the original version of Iron Lotus is the "you're my everything", where as that is the ONLY line that is repeated in the Key Ingredient version.
It's a difference of focus on the same feeling. OG Iron Lotus is about some who feels love and loss, but doesn't want to talk about it because that's the "imposter" within her. In the Key Ingredient version, it's about someone who feels love and loss, but instead of "sucking it up" and calling that part of her the imposter, she doubles down and asks "why", repeating that the one she lost was her everything. Imo, it's like someone going through a serious breakup, and is in between the "move forward" and "holding on for hope" phases.

in terms of the song's relation to its debut in Library Of Ruina - the fight against the Ego-wielding Xiao - Director of the Liu Association's South Section1 - the original version could be seen as Xiao lashing out in confusion and anger, finding her footing in the flames that will burn her to the ground before she manages to reach anywhere: a giant of mud temporarily tempered by the flames that burn the world around it.
The secret ingredient version is almost what happens after, as she loses the fight, her broken bones returning as she stops putting up a fight and mourns the loss of her husband Lowell - his death at the player's hands being the very reason she practically went berserk in the first place - She finally has a moment to realize her regrets and speak a final note of love to someone she isn't sure she'll see once her eyes fully close and the pages of her life are turned over and shelved.
it's a song about, indeed, Loss and Love, originally expressed with burning, Violent flames at a shifting tempo that every now and then betrays the pain writhing beneath. the secret ingredient is the ashes left behind after the fire is gone, only the pain - no longer writhing, but giving in to itself, fading as it is released into the world; like the ashes left after a fire, slowly, silently fading as any breeze blows over it

@@grimmreaper5349 How it feels to "burn out" after loving hard. Real.
I also like the idea that the key ingredient could be Roland's interpretation (since it's all piano), and how his own cynical world view paints the lives of those he would kill. Perhaps he sees someone like Xiao has hopeless and dead-ended, watching someone clutch for something that had burned away. "That is that and this is this" runs counter to everything Xiao stands for, so there's even the possibility that the key ingredient version could be Roland's pity of Xiao.

What i find so interesting about this specific Key Ingredient version is the lyric differences. the original Iron Lotus has lines that repeat everywhere, while in the Key Ingredient version it's un-iterated and instead left as nearly dead air... except at the end, where "You're my everything" is reiterated where it isnt in the original. It really sets in the despair this version has over the in-game version. While the original is "the defiant roar of a proud dragon, standing up to it's fate", this key ingredient version finishes the scene with "the regretful whimper of a heartbroken human, accepting it's fate."
The Library is by no means a benevolent entity, it takes and takes and never gives back. Friends, Comrades... Lovers... And then they taunt you, sending you an invitation to get them back in the form of a book. Knowing full well before the invitation even enters your hands that you will be back to give up yourself to the library in a vain attempt to get them back. And though you may thrash, though you may fight, though you may awaken to who you truly are in the process... it's ultimately pointless. A lone tree cannot form a forest on it's own. And a lone human cant win in the Library. In the end, you'll just think back to the lover you lost to the selfsame library, the one they plastered on an invitation to get you to come in here... and you realize that because they "were your everything", that it was the perfect bait to force you to give yourself to the Library

Key ingredients was an amazing album. it was a 10 year anniversary album where they took a bunch of their songs and, well... stripped them down to their key ingredients. The very first mili song I fell in love with and what got me into their music in the first place was Chocological (I really love interesting voices and manners of speech, so Cassie Wei grabbed my attention immediately and I had to hear more), and hearing the Key Ingredients version to wrap up the whole album... felt like experiencing mili for the first time again. They also have an acoustic only version of the album which is fantastic on its own. you don't even have to think about how sad and depressing all of the songs are bc there are no lyrics! :)
