My grandmother was Tommie Johnston. Growing up I heard all these stories we are Irish and Scottish. I don't think she knew how much of her linage was Scottish and not just Irish. After doing my own research into the family I've found out that I'm 52.5% Scott/Irish. It's nice to know where my roots go. I can't wait to attend the Highland games at Grandfather Mountain in Western North Carolina. I just bought nearly 3 acers in the foot hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I'm looking forward to building a home there and someday retiring there. To live in a place where my ancestors came directly from Ireland and Scotland is amazing. It's fascinating to find out all the history of the ones who came before me.

"Fiercest most romantic most violent and most adventurous" if that doesn't speak to my Johnstone blood then I don't know what does.

Representative of Clan Carruthers, standing by. And professional musician. I'd say I'm proud of ya, but instead I'll send all the love in the world to ya, ancestral neighbor. Because no Johnstone needs my approval.

I was so happy earlier this year, with the help of Ancestry and Coat of Arms Date Base to learn that my Ferguson line comes from Craigdarroch House in southwest Scotland and learn that my line can by traced all the back to William The Conqueror. And now I'm learning that I'm part on the Johnston Clan of Caskieben as my 14th GGF is George Johnston, 8th Laird of Caskieben and his son Dr. Arthur Johnston is my 13th great uncle. But it doesn't end there as I'm also discovering that my dad's mom has a lot of Johnston's in her family of the same branch as Dr. Arthur Johnston is now my 10th GGF on that side of our family. It makes me so proud as a part Native American Indian from Arkansas of my Scot-Irish Ancestry and to keep my ancestors stories alive as we all come from somewhere. And always keep learning where you come from. 💙🏴

As a Carruthers, I can't relate to, ahem...inviting the English to the discussion...but if you were border stock, it'd make a lot more sense to ya. When one army comes your way, burning, and your national army tends to tactically retreat, burning for hundreds of years...ya stop relating to the government of either. Why should I kill an honest Englishman I'm probably related to, from a family I respect because a man in an expensive hat in either London or Edinburgh told me to? Lol
Lots on respect your way, Mac. For many reasons.

The Johnston's like most border families fought for their own existance, whether it was against the Scottish Crown , English Crown or against their neighbours ( particularly the Maxwells).
It was a matter of survival in those days. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
