I came looking for tying the longer loop to use as a dropper on a flyfishing nymph rig and found it thank you. I carried on watching and found out the name of the splicing needle or gated needle which was featured in another YT video about knotting pheasant tail feathers for daddy long legs but I could catch the name of them so than you once again.

I've watched many videos regarding Tying rigs, loops etc, all very useful. However I have never seen anyone tying rigs and loops using a "Fly Tying vice" or a third hand as I call it, to hold your hook whilst tying, have you ever tried using one, I would advise anyone tying their own rigs etc to get one, cheap as chips yet invaluable.

I've had one of those gizmo hook tyers for maybe 3 or 4 years now and couldn't use them (just like you at 4:00) in the way I saw them demonstrated, mainly because any rough skin or nail on your hand and the line gets caught. So thank you for showing me a different way. I just tied 8 loops of differing sizes very successfully! The figure 8 knot is more difficult to size up uniformally though no matter how you tie it. Brilliant though.

Hi Jon, Thanks for showing this really good demo! I have been pulling out what hair I have left trying to tie loops after tying a spade hook. I want to try and use a Helicopter rig for Bream & Roach and the Rig is calling for 1 1/2" to 2" hook lengths to be effective ! The Chap said they were hard to tie, but worth the effort, and as you said, trying to use a loop tyer is a Nightmare for such a short length! Thanks again regards Paul.
