    Great and most useful life-saving information. Especially for those that would find me unconscious which I think is usually the case. Living alone, diagnosed with T1D at age 51, now almost 68. Never had to use one, but every single day I put a sign in my kitchen window for neighbor to see to confirm I am still alive. Only a couple times have I overslept past 7:30 am and neighbor would rush down my hall calling out my name. You MUST have an advocate when living alone with such a serious life-threatening disease. The majority of Americans have no idea what Diabetes is, let alone the difference between the often reversible T2D and the permanent T1D. I held my older brother's hand in 1997 when he died of T1D at 46 years old. But he was diagnosed in 1951 at the age of 2. No BG testing back then, only test stips you peed on. Many days I came home from school to learn he was again in the hospital. He was a miracle to have lived as long as he did and our mother is the reason for that. Totally educated herself and really worked hard to create a safe Diabetes-friendly home life for us all. 2 out of 3 kids ended up with T1D. Mom died before I was diagnosed, so I could not thank her for her herculean efforts in the 1950s and beyond.

      You are so right they don’t know the difference at all. My daughter was diagnosed at 4 and she is now 13. I have been by her side from the beginning and we have worked so hard together. It makes me sad that she was diagnosed so young and I worry about her future. I am very thankful she has her pump. It has helped a lot. People don’t realize how scary this disease is

    As a non-diabetic, if I ever had to administer one of these to someone, I'd lean towards the G-Voke. I'd likely be nervous which makes me shake. I wouldn't have to mix anything, deal with a giant needle, or try to get powder into their nose. Just pull the cap off and press the button.

    I used baqsimi tonight for the first time because my meter was reading 35 and my Dex was giving me down arrows in the 40s. Didn’t know how badly it was gonna hurt!! It’s worse and longer lasting than a Covid nasal test and I’ve had a headache since. Obvs different folks will have different experiences but always helpful to talk about our experiences with different glucagons!

    I think the injectable glucagon can be mixed with the needle it the vial, if you leave the needle and syringe attached and hold by the syringe you can roll the vial along your other hand and this will gently mix it. This is how we mix injectables at my vet clinic and it makes it so your needle is covered (no sharps hanging around) and you poke the vial less which means your needle isn’t as dull therefore it is less painful for the patient.
    Granted I work with animal medicine but I thought it might be helpful to someone

I have gone through a lot of lows, and my husband has been my life saver with the Glucaon Emergency kit, but he did have a hrd time with it a few times. My lows were very low ( 20's-30's) before I got the Dexcom. Now I do so much better and still working on eating. I still need to keep some thing in the house just in case, Thank you for the info.

    Hi Danica. Thanks for the educational videos. Diagnosed about 5 months ago and I consider myself very lucky to have access to social media where I can find people like you who are willing to share their fund of knowledge about this disease. I know this question is not relevant to this particular video but I’m wondering if you know of any clothes specifically designed for male diabetics to carry the insulin pump. I want to start using arm insertion but where to put the pump is the issue.

    I used to have the one similiar where you have to mix it it was made by Lilly company. My insurance doesn't cover that one anymore now they cover and gave gvoke hypopen and it's much better! It's just like an insulin pen but has the needle already and it got me sugar working from 43 to 150 in 10 minutes but after about an hour it goes to normal range around 90s or 120s. I would like to have the nasal glucagon but I don't think in America covers that one or has that one. If they do insurance probably doesn't cover it. I took the hypopen myself when my sugar goes too low.

  • @c.johnson-waggoner4262

    Which pump are you wearing with your Dex Com? I just started with my Dex Com today. My instructor gave me your CZcams address. You are great. I took my daughter in law with me so what I forget she can help me with. I am 70 and not all that tech savvy but I can see where you can be a blessing. Thank you.

    I've had to use the one you mix while my wife was having a low blood sugar sezuire, very hard to do (had already called 911)... my hands couldn't stop shaking while trying to mix and prep it. Would prefer premix injection. Everyone is fine now, be careful as a T1D who just gave birth.. Happened 2 weeks after birth. We had a Dexcom too and basically it was dropping too fast to eat anything (tried apple juice and it got everywhere from her shaking)

  • @SuperFirenza
    @SuperFirenza Před 3 lety

    I had the traditional glucagon used on me repeatedly as a child and teenager. I wasn't ever conscious for it though. I think the newer glucagons are a big improvement in ease of use especially for the people who may need to give it to you. I have the old fashioned glucagon kit since the newer ones aren't widely covered by insurance yet. Thankfully I haven't had a severe enough low as an adult to require one.

    I had a glucagon pen kit when I was first diagnosed 34 years ago. Never used it and after many years my mother threw it away. Now I live alone and never saw a use for having it on hand. If I am so low that I need it I will be unable to actually administer it to myself. The nasal one looks promising. Does that need to be refrigerated?

      papa t, you are what we call a troll. All she was doing was explaining the three types currently available. If you know so much, where’s your medical license or CZcams channel. Enlighten us what was not correct in describing the three types currently available! Also, in world we are living in now with COVID-19, we don’t need negative people like you. We are all trying to survive with little access to our doctors. I can only get an online spot and it takes 2-3 months to get in at that. So I find her videos necessary in this health crisis the world is in. It’s frightening to be type 1 right now. It took me three pharmacies and over a week on time during lockdown to get the insulin I need to live. I finally had to go with cheap vial insulin. So troll on! I want to hear what she has to say!!!
