    Don and I run a little experiment to see how eating the exact same carbs and doing the exact same exercise will affect our blood sugars differently! We both have Type 1 diabetes.
    P.S. Did I mention we filmed this while wandering around Washington, DC? Because we did.

    I love seeing diabetics come together like this. Great video guys. It's a shame that your so far apart and can't do more videos together like this.

    I've literally been saying this for years! Drs wont listen to my experiences & my last endocrinologists cookie cutter instructions had me crash so hard I about passed out & couldn't get it back up for 30 minutes 🙄 this happened twice. Certain digestive enzymes and different supplements help me more than any Dr ever has. 🤨 thank you so much for doing this because my diabetes will literally yeild different results day-to-day for the same actions. I'm so unbearably brittle 😭
    Side note: Don, if you dont like coffee you should have gotten the vanilla bean frappuccino!! 😎
    Love you guys for this, I will be subscribing to you both!!

    This is perfect for helping people understand how different T1d can be for different people. I'll definitely be sharing it when I do my annual month of D-related facebook posts in November for Diabetes Awareness Month. Thank you!

    Oh my gosh! This was a much needed video! Nobody should be judged by their numbers! It's nobody's fault if they have diabetes, and everybody's body works differently. Even as I've gotten older, I have noticed changes in the way that my body responds to the same things such as exercise. It used to make me go low, but now I can run for an hour (which I do do) and it doesn't change at all.

    Nice video, for monitoring my glucose values I use Nightrider CGM with Libre sensor. I am able to get alarms for out of range readings, share readings with my endo and caregivers. It's the best method of tracking exercise, diet, and other activities on one platform.

    Have you ever read "pumping insulin" by Walsh & Roberts? It may explain some of your results scientifically rather than "everyone is different". When you start at different BG levels the results will differ because of that, not just because of being different people. The chapter on exercise is particularly enlightening if you have never read it. I found it very helpful for the mountain hiking I enjoy.

    How long do you wait to ear after you've bolused? If I were 172 I would have had to wait at least 30 minutes before having a Starbucks coffee otherwise my BG would have spiked really bad!

    Did Don really say he had a 2 week old set?!! Isn't that really dangerous? And wouldn't that cause the highs that he is experiencing?

    • @SuperBetic499381
      @SuperBetic499381 Před 10 lety +4

      Indeed i had it for 2 weeks, all my things were stolen. My Doctor sent my perscriptions but could not get them filled because my medical doesnt work here... I had to see a US Doc first and i had no idea if my budget would allow it. The set was actually working till the day i got home. But You are totaly right it is really dangerous to do it. I did have back up shots just in case the set failed.

    • @karinjanzen9985
      @karinjanzen9985 Před 10 lety +1

      Oh Don, so sorry about that! Had no idea that the stuff you had stolen included your pump supplies. That must have been really tough. So glad everything worked out and you were ok through it all. Thanks for your encouragement to other diabetics. My son is a 14yr old Type 1 so it's always great to see other guys further along being such great role models. :)

      Headsup bro, if you call the companies directly the assigned reps and nurses are usually really awesome at sending extra sets right away.

    That is why testing is important. I'm on new a Glucose Absorption Inhibitor drug and got stuck in long meeting without drinking or eating.. back started itching like crazy which was new.. felt awful and did a test... had highest sugar level ever 29mmol.. so I drank 1 litre of water and it dropped to 13 in just 15mins..
    If I drink semi skimmed milk I go higher than drinking full fat.
    Feel lot better on new drug but levels do vary lot more.. but solution seems to drink more to lower it. Average is lower and I've stopped putting on weight.
    GPs in UK still regularly say testing is not needed for people with diabetes II.

    • @nurse4christ1
      @nurse4christ1 Před 10 lety +1

      That is because the fat in the milk slows the absorption of the carbs.

    • @tracyshelton5599

      well I ride bikes n stuff n drop in numbers really fast so I was told to test more when exercising and being sick which I have 2 auto immune diseases that I fight daily

  • @slackleashdogtraining3598

    As if this weren't baffling enough; results can be different in the same person on different trials. i.e. stress, fear, time of day, hormone fluctuations, fighting a viral cold or not, did you sleep well, speed of eating and speed of excersizing. DIABETIC-KNOW-THYSELF ! right?

      As always the US use a non-SI unit, mg/dl. Pretty much the rest of the world uses the SI conform unit mmol.
      But I can't complain, I'm from Germany and mg/dl is standard here...

      @squeezelouise8064 Před 10 lety

      200 mmol in the UK means death and is survivable !!
      In the USA, blood glucose is measured in mg/dl (milligrams per decilitre) so 100 is about 5.0 mmol and 200 is about 10 mmol, that is how I remember it.

    • @maxmustermann1455
      @maxmustermann1455 Před 6 lety

      In Western Germany we use mg/dl too.
      I honestly like mg/dl better anyway. Target is a beautiful round 100, whole numbers....
      mg/dl Master race.
