    Hi Danica, I have been using a bag/satchel/purse etc., I do not much care what other people call it. My whole life is in my bag. Diabetic supplies, in case my pump dies I have an insulin pen fully loaded. My blood sugar test machine Bayer Contour. Juice, power bars, cellphone. I carry my bag everywhere! Been using them for 30 years plus.

    I keep all my stuff in my girlfriends purse which she lugs around. She's really kinda awesome like that. Started looking into the pump today, yours was the first channel I stumbled on. Have read a few comments unbelievable how some people were never hugged as childern. Your top three bad habits I do all of them except maybe the teststrips to the same degree. But my solutions for two of them are this just put kleenex in the mesh and replace it when it gets gross, and with the teststrips just keep the strips in the case and when the tube is empty pitch em in that or just use two tubes. Been diabetic for........20 years now. Cool channel congrats on nurse schooling (my girlfriend is a nurse awesome people) cheers thanks for the helpful information thanks from calgary canada.

    I have the same problem with test strips!! I started to keep an empty Tic Tac container with me. I just slip the used strip in the opening and we're good to go.... its the perfect size and easily fits into any bag. [and a little more sanitary i guess] lol =] I love all your videos!! I was diagnosed type one about a year and a half ago and started the one touch ping about a week ago and your videos are so helpful!! Thank you so much!!

    You keep a good variety of supplies!! All those strips in my purse would make me nuts, though! LOL! I usually do zip mine up in my meter pack too, but every day or so, I end up dumping them into the trash. But I'm a stay-at-home mom & probably test more often at home than you do! Makes a big difference! Keep up the great positive attitude & helpful videos!

    I'm a guy and I carry my diabetic supplies in a satchel. It's actually a Czech army shoulder bag, not a purse or a murse. The Chech army does not carry purses! :-) I'd actually bought it before my diagnoses to use while riding. It's great for carying water, air pump, head lamp and bike lock as well as meters, insulin, and snacks.

    I am 22 years old and I am a type one diabetic. I am an EMT and am almost always on the go, so I have trouble remembering to bring my supplies with me. I use a 5.11 tactical sling bag to carry my supplies. It works great and I recommend this to any male who wants a "manly purse" to carry their supplies.

    That's a ton of test strips lol. I usually only find a few at the bottom of my purse. I carry what I call my 'dia-kit' in a little pink polka dot pencil zipper case thing that a friend gave me randomly as part of a birthday gift. I am a master of fitting everything I need into it. I carry my meter, test strip vial, lose lancets and pen needles, a pack of life savers and a small plastic bag of 2,000 mg of metformin. (Type 2) I used to take it all at night, but it gave me such bad side effects that way. Now I break it up into 4 doses a day and just take it whenever I'm eating. I used to carry my lantus pen with me, but recently decided to keep it at home since I always do it before bed anyway. It was nice to have with me in case I got stuck somewhere overnight though. It just doesn't quite fit with the addition of the life savers. And I don't want those just loose in my purse because I always end up with random bits of fuzz and dust and stuff in it and I'd rather not eat that lol. Maybe I'll just keep my pen in the purse separate. Im always looking for new container ideas for all my stuff. When I was first diagnosed and put on lantus I got this big case from lantus to carry everything in, but it was so big and ugly I hated it... This is at least cute lol. And I also keep a jar of glucose tabs in my car, and a few in my gym bag. Also, another good thing that doesn't really expire or Gerry's wrecked if it gets squished is those little applesauce pouches. They're great in a pinch.

    As a diabetic guy I waive the flag proudly! I have a "bullet bag" (think messenger bag) with a giant Biohazard symbol on it. Inside of that I keep a metal case with my insulin pens, strips, needles, panic meds, glucose gel, an emergency pack of skittles (medical skittles). I'll have to update soon, start on Omnipod and G4 next week!

    I clip the pump on my belt and put the cgm in my pocket or in a phone arm band. some candy in my pocket. Super easy these days. Of course I would not be as prepared as you for things. Once I was hundreds of miles from insulin when my pump went empty. I do keep a syringe near like in the glove box in case pump fails. I drove to a pharmacy and bought prescription insulin. Looks like you never drop used test strips which is good.

    Roxy... the quick stics... they probably are just about as effective as pixie sticks would be, and ten times as expensive... but that gives me a good idea I hadn't thought of... ill bet each one of those regular pixie sticks is about 5 grams of carbs and would be easy to carry and work really well for lows! But like I wouldn't use expensive gels when I can carry a bit of natural honey, I probably wouldn't pay big money for special diabetic pixie sticks either heh. Now real supplies like glucagon, insulin and the like.. that is one thing.. but sugar is pretty much sugar, though you want one without fat initially (though I have found that if I follow up with fatty sugar, like chocolate, I am not as likely to get a secondary low, so, fast sugar like honey or pixie sticks (honey is a double sugar and being liquid is my favorite for fast acting, especially as it is less likely to choke you if you are having any reaction.. dry sugar they say is good but chokes me) then when my sugar starts coming back up, a small piece of chocolate is a good stabilizer if I cant get to REAL food, like protein...Danica, im sure you have a video out there that says something similar?

    omg... that thing when you opened your kit... yeah. so many times, so many public places LOL. And the bottom of my purse, if I cleaned out all the rest of the trash first, would definitely look just like that LOL. Cept all my strips look alike cause right now I only have one working meter. Around my house though there are like five other kinds of strips in vials laying around, most of them expired LOL. Ah, the life of the diabetic. I think the word you were looking for, about your first diabetes bag, would be, "utilitarian" meaning it does what it needs to do but isn't exactly stylish. I need a bigger bag, stuff is always falling out of my purse LOL. Not great when one of the things is my test kit, WITH my insulin pens. I had to go to the er for a bad burn that wouldn't heal the other day, and after sitting there for two hours I realized I didn't have my kit and I was feeling lowish... bleh. Guess it was the place to be if I was going to have a diabetic emergency, eh? But I was fine, they got me in and out before hubby could even bring me my kit after that, and when I got it my sugar was only 86, so not really low, either I was having a false low, or my liver took care of it heh.

I scared myself by that sound, fell out of my bed and crawled to my kitchen to my fridge for the juice in there. I said I crawled but my chin hit the floor several times. When I was in my wet bed I tried moving my arm from one side to the other but before it was done moving it dropped because my brain didn't keep the command I gave it to move. Very strange especially if you try to speak! SCARY! That was the worst. I think it took me half hr. to get to fridge.

    ewww used test strips!! I thought I was the only one that find those on the bottom of my purse. Do you use alcohol pads? Also do you scrub out/disinfect pouches and purse? And my final question what does everyone use to blot the blood? I end up with a red and white poka dot tissue. These are things that no one taught me. We seem to have to wing it. Also since you need batteries so much do you think you should have a solar or crank power source in case of a storm?

    • @simyina
      @simyina Před 8 lety

      +Joe Jon Hi ! In order to avoid red and white poka dot tissue, I use to put my lancet at low measure ( the mximum is 5, but I have it on 2) becouse you only need the minimum blood for the glucometer to work, you don't really need to much blood, just a little pick, then, after I put the blood on the glucometer, I pres with some piece of a soft dry napkin and hold it for 2-5 minutes in order to absorb the blood. Then for 10-15 or even 30 minutes I avoid putting that finger in contact with liquids, so I avoid washing hands or stuff or getting cream on my hands... it is good to also desinfect the finger before you take your glucose check in order for the inpurities not to end into the broken tissue made by the niddle pick and make the healing process last longer. For me it works. Good luck !
