Man, it's such a shock to my system to realize Jonathan has intentionally done these initiations with his family. Something I've lamented that our culture lacks, but never thought about how to replace. Great stuff. Hopefully I can come up with something for when I have kids.
Let us know what you come up with. Will it involve a large knife and a cabin in the woods?

all travelling has aspects of pilgrimage. you go somewhere "far away" to see and experience something you wouldnt get where you are, in order to make your life more full.

Derek, what were the 5 or so movies you mentioned? I’m trying to be very selective and it helps to hear what others have come up with.
With the kids: The Prince of Egypt. Wall-E. Bugs Life. Monsters Inc. Wind in the Willows (1995). Beauty & the Beast (90s version). The Black Stallion. The Sound of Music.
Without the kids: Arrival. Interstellar. Queen of the Night (2022). Lord of the Rings. Pride & Prejudice (1996, with the wife).
"I don't try to account for the mechanical causes for these things, you know. Yeah, I don't try. It's best not, probably not, to try to do that. It's just that these icons become places where people are healed. They become places where people's answer prayers are answered."
Discount the mechanical, discount the immaterial.
Did the icon really move? Were the people really healed?
Is a mechanical miracle or answered prayer less than an immaterial miracle or answered prayer?
There's a set of recursive layers to this that's hard to think through but it leads to a concern that those who do find out the mechanical dispels the immaterial will have their worldview shattered and the end will be worse than it needed to be.
Still trying to figure out if this is a net good or net ill.

I don't get why all the dodgy addresses? I don't know how to read. The people from across the ocean also doing the geo tagging. Just use Google and paste exactly there. And suddenly found out that the US ended up here. And I am wondering whether there is anything across the Pacific?

I raised both my children homeschooling them on an organic vegetable farm working with the Amish and no television no Hi-Tech. Many Orthodox admired us and wanted to do the same but then they wanted to finish high school and get have a social life. They went to a so-called Christian School and they got cars, that got a phones then they learned to fornicate and take drugs and they're out of the church and I'm afraid they're totally lost.
Thank you for sharing your story. I commend you for doing everything you could to raise your children rightly. I don't have any advice for you. But I can tell you that I had a similar journey as your children. I grew up in my grandparents Christian academy and in their church with excellent parents. I chose to go the ways of my friends, the way of the world. I ran (better said, I rode my bike) far away from my homeland and the faith of my fathers. I pursued psychedelics, new age mysticism, eastern religions - you name it - to find inner bliss. Still, yet, God wasn't giving up on me, and I knew it. I hated that I knew it. He was kind and patient and not pushy. He sent messenger after messenger, and chance after chance, to turn away and return to Him, the source of Love and Truth. Eventually, in a series of mysterious, unorthodox events, I came back. I was wooed back. God made a way. When I was ready, I came home.
If it could happen to me, it could happen to your children. It can happen to anybody. I'm sure it helped to have a tenacious host of prayer warriors - my grandma and parents namely.
