He wants nothing to do with Volk but should Topuria upset Volk Sean will go up as it is a better match up for him. If not he stays at Bantam and pushes for Sandhagen over Merab. And the UFC will do everything they can to cultivate their same. They are doing the same thing for Ian Garry and Bo Nickal.

Of course he wants a rematch so he can not make that same mistake but let's see some O'Malley fights for another year or two and let's see Aljo fights, too. After they both fight 2-3 times we'll see. This is way more fun putting them up against other fighters, it's a stacked division and there are a lot of exciting fights leading to that belt.

Aljo's coaches didn't do him any favors telling him to push the action. Hindsight is 20/20 but Aljo should have been more patient waiting for his opportunity. I don't think he'll make that mistake again, and O'Malley knows it. He's gonna put that rematch off until he feels that his wrestling defense can handle it.

The title defenses get him a cut of PPV, he is trying to have as many as possible. Longevity is elusive in combat sports, particularly MMA.

Conor called out Floyd.
Usman called out Canelo.
O'Malley called out Davis.
N'Gannou called out Fury and GOT the fight and doesn't have to share profits with the UFC like Conor did.

I am no fan of O'Malley picking the easiest fights for the most money, but it's undeniably smart and in his best interest, so good for him. It's just not fair if you look at the rankings and UFC and treat it like a sport. Logically if it was just a straight up sport not a "business", O'Malley would have to fight Merab, then if he beats him, give Aljo the rematch or fight against Sandagen.

Sean will be big, huge even. But he will never sniff the level Conor reached. Sean won't be the double champ, and he clearly only wants fights that are good matchups for him. Part of what made Conor such a badass is that he would fight literally anyone anywhere at any weight. And actually had a chance to beat all of them. Sean knows Volk would maul him.
