Why tf isnt there a class action lawsuit to force Nintendo to provide this for free and fix their damn defective controllers
Who gone tell em 😀 ( they do its free but you gotta send them in)
There was. But Nintendo dragged it out so long that it was dropped.
Getting the ribbon cables back in is the hardest part.
Thanks for the walkthrough, mine are great, love the tighter feel and tiny dead zones!
The left joycon ribbon cable was not correctly routed when you put back together. I'm actually kind of shocked you didn't damage it.
It's literally routed the same way as when he took it apart
He's talking about the LZ ribbon cable. Its not routed correctly. It should be under the battery holder, when phawx put it together its on the side of the battery holder. I'm surprised when he put the cover back on it didn't rip the cable.
@@BurritoKingdom oh ok i thought he meant the joystick cable
@@BurritoKingdom yup, I should have been more specific.
I did the same thing when installing mine, crimped the cable pretty badly but fortunately still worked
Thanks for walking me through this. Finally drift free after a year.
Thanks for the easy guide, and I really like the collection you have there in the background! I thought mine was crazy, but you are like a handheld master!
I really appreciate that you included a link for german Amazon :)
Thank you for sharing - we have a set that drifts; will look into doing this right away!
This got me through the process! Thank you, sir.
THANK YOU!!!! Took me the better part of an hour but I got it done! Hate those little ribbon cables. Scared to do a shell swap but might give it a try.
Loved my joycons so I have to do this lol. Joycons are just minimalistic, grip controllers just couldn't do it for me and I always ended up with the joycons again. Mine stands the test of time (3 years) with no signs of drift even after movement-intensive games like MH and DS, glad that this came so I can future-proof mine :D.
only stripped 1 screw on the last thumbstick screw luckily i was able to cut out the post with a gundam plastic cutter and it rested just fine with the 1 other screw thanks for this video!
Thank you! You made my install quick and easy due to your detailed instructions.
Another technique I use for the L1 R1 buttons, TAPE, I tape them down with masking tape, electrical tape, scotch doesn't matter, that way you don't lose them, don't have to remove them, or anything like that.
Thank you for the guide, Sir! I can now aim properly with my bow in TotK using the replacement parts. :))
Followed you through this as I replaced my Zelda cons that started drifting really bad. Appreciate the video, very thorough and well done, even if the process itself is straight forward. 👍
Do the joysticks still work?
I like the idea of these for increasing tension. My only problem with the joycon is the stick feel anyway. I'm gonna switch mine out, even before any drift may occur.
Dreamcast controller: Look what they need to mimic a fraction of my power
Very helpful, just replaced 2
I hope Microsoft releases the elite 3 with something like this, and better quality on ABYX buttons etc.
On the other hand, gulikit is planning to add back paddles to their controller, if they are placed the same as the elite 2 ones, I will give that controller a chance, oh and 4 back paddles minimum. x)
I wouldn't mind gulikit replacement sticks for the elite 2, but this won't happen I guess.
Any chance you would be willing to (if you aren't already planning) make a how-to video of the hall effect analog stick replacement for the GPD Win 4? If you feel it is similar enough to this, minus the opening of the device and finding the sticks, I will just refer to this.
That was really useful thanks!
On a related note I wonder if anyone's considered making a 3DS style shell that would fit 3DS analog sticks. I don't recall now what the ribbon cable length/angles were but I do recall them being the same pin count and cable size as the 3DS analog sticks so would be cool if there were JoyCons with 3DS style thumbsticks. Never heard of 3DS analog sticks getting drift so that would be an alternative solution to the problem. :P
This is the solution.
The 3DS joystick would probably not work.
IIRC nintendo created a patent for 3DS circle pads on joycons in 2021 but never did anything with it. They have lots of weird patents for joycons that they've done nothing with like the joy-con with a hinge in the middle for some reason
@@orangy57 I had too another look at the 3DS analog sticks via photos of them being sold individually and it looks like the pin count on the ribbon cables are different so looks like they won't work directly as is. :(
@@MagnumForce51 oh well, maybe someone will figure out how to get the signal converted into something the switch can read like that mod that adds a capacitive touchpad to a joycon. Obviously it won't be available for the mass market but it'd be cool to see someone get it working
I just remembered ur name from gbatemp you're the dsi homebrew guy!! i've used ur stuff a ton didn't realize I was talking to a celeb lmao
this was my very first tear down of any type of technology, and holy hell was it nerve racking, there was an instance when I was screwing in the second module where I couldn't get the screw to go threw and after double checking I was screwing into the ribbon cable that connects over one of the screw holes, it get wedged under the module without me noticing, if I wasn't as careful as I was and applied just a bit more force, I would've fucked up my whole controller, little bit of story time for a first timer
I followed all the steps in your video, and the new replacements really did eliminate all joystick drafting.
Do the gulikit joysticks still work?
I don't know why you pry the battery from that side, there's a clear opening on the left that you can pry from the bottom of the battery, that gives way less stress on the battery, always keep in mind deforming a battery is dangerous.
Thank you! Saved me from buying a new pair!
Do you know where I can get some spares for the screws that hold in the right joycon? I accidentally stripped one screwing it in and right now I'm just keeping it at the tightness I got it to.
You sir have earned a like and comment from me which is rare. Very much appreciate the no BS approach to this install with a review at the end. In depth and also not overly long, props to you my guy. ❤
Looks like if I get a Nintendo Switch, I'll need to invest in the GuliKit sticks for the joycons.
I want white tops for switch lite replacements. Black sticks would look too weird.
Honestly, the peace of mind knowing they won't develop drift, AND with Metroid Prime Remastered probably benefiting a lot from the tighter and more sensitive sticks, I think it's a pretty good argument to preemptively replace 'em.
Mine was just making squeaking noises. Worked well, but got tired of it sounding like Link was humping everything
Dude, I was dead worried when I played Sonic Frontiers. Everything is meant to be used, but it's better when you don't have to worry or wonder when it's gonna break
@Andreasytac same thing happened to my right joycon. Surprised how easy it was. 😅
Do the gulikit joysticks still work?
When i ended up replacing it my right controller was completely fine but my left now has sticky face buttons. Im pretty sure the board just isnt in the right place but do you have any tips to fix it? Did i put in the wrong size screws in the wrong holes?
If I may, tweezers would have made this MUCH easier for you. Especially with the ribbons and getting the dust gasket back in place. Just a friendly tip!
one of the two stick is defective on mine, i contacted them but no reply
Absolutely wonderful and helpful. This is easily the best video on joy-con replacement. Period.
Do the gulikit joysticks still work?
hey just a bit of a tip, but when you took apart the right joycon and you removed the old joystick i noticed that you had trouble getting the little black plastic dust cover thingy back in place. so the trick is that it actually goes under the nfc chip reader. what happens is when you lift the old joystick out of there it usually likes to bring that piece with it, so it pulls it out from under the nfc card reader, so all you gotta do is just bend it a tiny bit and make it go back under there. i just noticed that you tried to make it lay down and you couldnt and then you just gave up and said "alright so thats in there now" even though it wasnt lol by thw way what im talking about took place at 12:18
first try thanks!
oh man, that r2 ribbon cable...
Just installed these into my white OLED Joy-cons, procedure was definitely more fiddly than I expected due to how compact the insides of the Joy-cons are, but thankfully nothing broke and the sticks work great! They only felt slightly firmer to me than the original joysticks but overall I prefer it, they feel better and more premium. My original sticks were working fine, but I replaced them anyway because the left one started making this weird spring creak when moving it to the left which I could also feel slightly. I was only going to replace just that one but decided to spend more on the GuliKit set and replace them both so they never have to end up drifting in the future. I do wish you showed how to re-connect the battery connector but that's my only complaint with the video. Besides that, I was easily able to follow along with the instructions and successfully, essentially upgrade, my Joy-cons!
Do the gulikit joysticks still work?
@@gageshippy2256 yes, and they're fantastic.
I have a year with my Nintendo switch oled and no drift on my white joycons so im good.
dude, yes. So glad there is an actual fix for joycon drift now. No more buying 10 sets of joycons!
Seems like unrealistic numbers, but probably something that happens...
@@pifre3051 I probably have more than 10 sets tbh that have died. There are streamers with literal buckets of drifting joycons
@@jspikeball123 yikers
@@jspikeball123 Do the gulikit joysticks still work?
@@gageshippy2256 yep still use my set with them all the time, no issues
Word of advice for anyone with fat fingers reading this-- you don't have to disconnect the battery *before* you remove the battery carriage. You just need to move it out of the carriage to unscrew it from the joycon. You can disconnect the battery after when you have more room for a utensil or your finger.
Don't rip the connector off the battery cables like me. Fortunately it looks like an easy enough reinsertion.
Are these joysticks going to be the final solution to get raid of joystick drifting!
🔥🔥🔥
Seems impossible to order from the DE and FR Amazon to the Netherlands. I hope this changes as I think this is a great value
Step number 1: leave the Netherlands
@@hellboy-xo9ho Not going to move for a pair of Analog Sticks :)
Do these still have the gap that I read about in the amazon comments?
it works
Do these feel “lumpy” like the stock sticks?
nobody ever seems to mention that lumpy feeling on the regular joycon sticks, it's like you can feel it crunching on bumps and stuff in all 8 directions
Have never done anything like this and found it remarkably frustrating that you show the detail of undoing screws but when it came to reattaching the ribbons you just skipped right over that video piece.
The GuliKit replacement has NFC for the Amiibos?
How's outer deadzone on those?
I can use this in Switch Lite?
finally all of the awful guitar picks i stole from guitar center have a purpose
Haha. Do the gulikit joysticks still work?
this guide would be super useful if the screws themselves weren't so easy to strip
I've read there's a gap issue, was that fixed?
I believe the gap came from those not installing the gasket back properly.
Still have clicking issues. Appears to be qa issues from gulikit
I have done the same swap and there is some odd behavior. When I go to calibrate either stick, they don’t register as working. So like, they work, but when the first step is performed to move either joy con to the right, there’s nothing registering that it’s tilted right unless I move both of them around. Has anyone seen this?
I damaged the battery connectors when I removed it, I just connected the wires directly and applied hot glue to secure them. It sucks! ha ha
Can you still use amiibos?
Still no windeck video 😢
Please do the same for steam deck
Question: did said “remove this nice an gingerly” @7:42 😂😂😂?
Stop skipping over all the delicate parts.
Am I the only person on this planet thats had the switch since its came out and have never had drift ?
Mine still has drift it did not fix it
why would you skip putting in the cables in a 20 minute video...
9:38 is the biggest lie I've ever heard. The battery connector has been the hardest thing for my grubby mits to reconnect.
I did get it eventually btw, I just felt this part hit my soul after trying for 15 min straight
pointing up down right left, u should ignore the dot and focus on your joy stick direction
I wonder if these are durable and have been made with decent QC. Too early to tell so I hold off
I already threw away my drifting ones…
Wait until you attempt to replace the joysticks on the Switch Lite... It's a nightmare!
This video is frustrating, you skip through the parts where you actually connect things.
Did anyone ever figure out the use for those two stickers underneath each stick in the packaging?
If you are referring to the back circle stickers, you’re supposed to put the ring part (pop out the middle circle piece) on top of the joystick before you install them. It blocks a “gap” between the top of the joystick and the edge of the shell to keep dust out.
I installed the Gulikit on my Switch OLED after hearing that 40%of joycons get stick drift. Put them in as a preventative measure.
How are they holding up?
Do the gulikit joysticks still work?
@@gageshippy2256 yeah I’ve had zero issues with them I actually forgot they were even in there
I fixed joycon drift with a piece of card, cost nothing 👍🏻
I broke my joy con following these steps! Can you please give better instructions about removing the battery? I pulled up and the whole plastic thing the battery cable snaps into came off the motherboard. There's no way I can fix this. Now I'm out the price of a gulikit and I have to go buy a new set of joy cons.
holy fk… u can’t blame him for your own inability to be NOT careful…. jesus…
How do you calibrate these on a Windows computer? (I do not own a Switch) I plan to buy a pair of Joy-Cons for use with the Dolphin Emulator and buy a pair of Hall-Based sticks when one Joy-Con starts drifting.
It is very complicated...
a bit expensive for what they are ....
and SOLD OUT!
Keep an eye on the listing. They seem to restock randomly.
Nothing to see here, just commenting for the engagement algorithm thing, move along.
yikes! only 2 pair is available.
To late bro. I got a steamdeck, my switch is on display on a shelf. Should have released this two years ago.
Joycons are convenient tiny packable controllers, too! Not as painless as a Zero, but still.
Yo chat is this real?
Joycon drift is a hoax. My old v2 that I had on launch still has perfect working sticks. My OLED (also purchased at launch) also has perfectly working sticks. It's a hoax my guy.
just because you don't experience it doesnt mean its a hoax .. I hope you get your joycon drift soon and I hope you enjoy it
I’ve done stick replacements myself but this video has bad lighting. Not a very professional video for people who are new to this.
Someone with no experience has no business disassembling a joycon. Also, this video is technically a review, not an in depth tutorial. There are plenty of videos online showing how to replace the joystick.
Well, is not recommended to do this with no experience, and second, to do a replacement of stick better do it when really your joycon is complete useless that deserved to almost trash it, insted of damaging a joycon that at least is working.
All looks great, but cant seem to get the joycon ribbon cable reconnected.... ughh...
