Had to laugh hubby has just come in and said “ shall we have tea in the dinning room” 🤣🤣. During lockdown we got dressed up on a Sunday night for tea in the dinning room.
Exactly!! That’s the way to do it.
Can go to the automotive department and buy a gallon of windshield washer fluid for the same price as a small bottle of window cleaner, get a spray bottle and mix with water. Will save you a fortune
Great tip!
As always, great support and advice.
I credit you, and the other "can do" people, for giving me courage, and showing me what a clear goal and persistence can accomplish (great stuff!). The fear drops away, and I am willing to give it a go. I recently built a computer monitor riser for $20 (the real wood ones sell from $120 to over $200, very out of my $ range). I channeled you and Mike, the store cut a stair tread and three pieces of wood for me. I took that home, drilled a few holes, put in a few screws, and it all came together in one short afternoon. I spent weeks thinking about it, but only a little time was actually needed to get it done. I think this is true of many things - I waste a lot of time overthinking, instead of taking action. Some things require you to start, and then figure it out as you go along. * I thank you, and my neck thanks you! * Because of this video, Repainting the hall bath in Jubilee blue will happen today. I am so chuffed!
It works every time
That’s brilliant well done 👏
Watching this a 2nd time while I'm deep cleaning my fridge and organizing/doing a food inventory at the same time. Thx for the inspiration!
You can do it!
Smashing video👍 when my daughters were teenagers and wanted their bedrooms redecorated and chose a different colour for their theme I would buy dylon washing machine Dye, pack of salt ,and Dye their old bedding and curtains to match the new colour scheme. Much cheaper than buying a whole new set of soft furnishings and bedding!
That's a great tip
I love these ideas. Come to realized we started doing this yesterday. My hubby and started to declutter, and clean our bathrooms. I painted my old garden plant shelves are planted new plants in old pots. RePainted some pots, too.
You’re doing great
I wholeheartedly agree with every point you made. Taking time to declutter is especially helpful if you feel as though your house is too small. However, I would like to add my favorite frugal way to love your house more: Do things to make memories at home! Have friends or family over for a potluck, "grill and chill" in the yard/ garden, or night of board games or cards. Plant a tree or flowering shrub to mark an occasion or milestone. Mark the kids' or grandchildren's height on the door jamb or an old board as they grow. Take a picture of your pets in their favorite snuggle spot or doing something silly. Get to know your neighbors, especially if they're older, so you enjoy your neighborhood more. The memories make the house a home!
That's a great tip
@@FrugalQueeninFrance Thank you so very kindly!
I love the doggie pictures at the end. Keep sharing those.😊
Thank you! Will do!
I would really like to encourage people to overcome their fears about tackling home projects on their own...many are very doable by a person of ordinary skills with a few simple tools. I have accomplished various projects to the satisfaction of my husband, a general contractor, by planning ahead and working very slowly so as to not make (serious)mistakes. He is so busy working on other peoples homes that he often does not have time to attack the projects I want done. (And I am a rather small woman in my seventies.)
Any thing is possible to those who make it happen
Yes Jane, a clean, a declutter, a move around and a lick of paint never fails. I regularly use my dining room as it overlooks the garden. Somehow meals always taste nice in there. I've now finished weeding and tidying the garden and have today put out my bright pink bistro set and colourful umbrella which instantly lifts everything. I also think the house brightens during the nice weather when the light changes both inside and out. This is happening right now in my region of the UK, where we are at last having some nice weather. 🙏. Thanks to you both for this great video. 🤗
Thanks for sharing
Wonderful video and message! Thank you for sharing with CZcams. We use the good china every day and just love it!
Great to hear that
Good for you!
My friend and I trade home decor regularly. Saves us a fortune. Neither of us spend any money and have "new" things to change the look. I borrow party dishes, extra chairs, table linens from friends and family so none of us have to invest in all that stuff that rarely gets used and tends to clutter up a home and cost money. Yes, cleaning really helps to fall in love with your home and helps contentment grow. I buy paint greatly reduced because someone didn't like how color turned out. The hardware store will even retint it for free. I find lighter colors are easier to make changes to. Found box marked free alongside road today with at least 50 yellow iris rhizomes in it! Came home divided and planted. I found a beautiful antique dresser by garbage can in our neighborhood I'm still using.
I love this
Great tips, especially “make the most of what you’ve got” x
So true!
A cheap string of solar powered lights can cheer up any old patio or garden corner or a battery operated one can brighten up dark corners. I also think a well placed plant makes many rooms more cozy and inviting.
Great tip
Great topic! Having a clean, tidy, home is such a joy.
It really is!
Hi Jane and Mike, after watching this video I am inspired to declutter clean and reorganise my home room by room. I have inventories of my stocks which I try to keep up to date but while cleaning and reorganising my storage places including the fridge and the freezer and rewriting my inventory sheets( I have a page for each area) I intend to have a no spend month in June so it will set me up with the information I need to meal plan for that month. It will also allow me to check dates on things and to pull out any part used items and get them used up to make more room in my pantry and storage cupboards.
June and July are no spend months for us too
Bake a cake - make the house smell like home!
And you have cake!
Dear Jane and Mike, thank you for the great content and message that you transmit. Whenever you show us your home and garden, I feel that it must feel like it's absolutely worth it being frugal. Having renovated the house yourselves and having such a lovely view and landscape. You couldn't ask for more!
Our pleasure! And it is.
This is a long holiday weekend for us in America. I got rid of tons today, all given away on local Buy Nothing. Everyone was thrilled to get the canned goods I no longer had a taste for, small applicants, a printer I no longer use, and other small household stuff. My small apartment is now a lot less cluttered.
That's lovely
I was cleaning my skirting boards while watching this. 🎉
Love that!
Yes! I watch the more conversational videos while doing housework and work on the house and save the more visual videos for when I have a moment to relax and enjoy them. I appreciate the "company", encouragement, and opportunity to learn or reinforce my frugal values while I'm working away!
Great video... we had a dining table that was too big to use in our cottage so we painted it and tiled the top and now use it on our patio. We have used it everyday since... our round dining table we painted it and the dresser cream and reupholstered the chairs . What a difference it made. Thankyou .
That's a great idea!
I have found beautiful lamps at garage and estate sales. Love them!
That's great
Thank you for resurrecting the DIY decorator in me!
You have never seen me paint...I have actually stepped back into the paint tray engulfing my entire foot. Love your channel- you are my favorite!
You can do it!
I just bought two sets of curtains on marketplace, one set for the bedroom and one set for the living room. Refreshed inexpensively!
That is awesome!
Jane you and Michael make me happy and i feel not so alone.
Happy to help
You're not alone. You're part of the lovely little frugal community here!
Your always right on time I was feeling that way until I started cleaning my shed and I found home decor that I’ve forgotten about 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾exciting right 👍🏾
Love that!
Clean, declutter and/or a little frugal decorating always cheer me up. I love my apt. Thanks for the video.
You are so welcome!
Super. There is Always something that we can do to feel even more comfortable in our homes. For little bucks. No need crazy spendings. Re arrangement, simple decluttering for instance, plants, change of place of accessories, basic fresh paint...I agree with all. More simple and clean works great I think. Some people like to buy more and more new stuff for decorations, but that's 'eating' the space and the oxygen inside. Well organised and maintained clean home is always a win. And to love and do with what we have got. You couldn't say it better. 💫👍🏡
Less is more
We bought a few sets of cloth napkins a little while ago on leboncoin and at Emmaus for very little. A good wash and they've really added something to our life, changing them and the placemats always gives a little lift, and we use less wasteful throwaway stuff too.
I love the organizing idea. With the amount of people in our house, things do get disorganized at times. I spent Mother’s Day organizing a new shelf and it made me so happy . I love when things are neat and tidy and well organized.
So true!
My kitchen counter was stained it was old formica so I put a primer on it and got my craft paint out and dabbed different colors then put polyurethane ober it and it's clean and looks like granite. Didn't cost very much. And I love it!
Such a good idea
Hello Jane and Mike from Illinois, USA. Love your frugal tips and excellent presentations! I like to refresh my home using similar techniques. But I also change my outdoor space, my home garden. I have planted my garden so that every room has a nice view. When I can't find something to change inside, I will move the outdoor patio furniture, relocate some planters or divide a clump of perennials and replant to another spot. Throughout the warmer months, I look for needed yard supplies or decor on deep clearance, shop yard sales, and sell used garden items I don't need or want on FB.
Good luck 👍
We switch the furniture in our living room and bedroom in the spring and fall. I switch out tablecloths periodically and change bedspreads once in awhile.
That keeps things fresh
I do mini makeovers by moving things round! Putting things away and then getting them out again is like having new things. Or I'll challenge myself to sell bits and I allow myself to buy new things with the money I make. Free cycle and marketplace is great in the UK.
Lol sorry you mentioned everything I just wrote! I should have watched it first!
Make a lovely arrangement with wine bottles or glass jars and put some (wild) flowers or flowering branches in them.
Great tip
Just today I have been out and cut a few wild flowers and brought them inside in a vase to brighten up my dinning room.
How coincidental!! I was in process of rearranging my living room while watching this vid lol
That’s great
Buying or regrouping home-plants can change the atmosphere as well.😊
Great tip
I certainly agree Jane that this long, wet winter has given a lot of people "cabin fever!". Myself included. 😅 .. but decluttering, spring cleaning and reorganising really does make a big difference to the way you feel in yourself & about your home..
Thanks for this well timed topic .. ❤😊 xx
Thanks so much for your feedback
Very motivating video 😊 The doggies look relaxed and contented.
Have been through a lot of old books and unwanted linen from the closet, a local Op Shop gratefully accepted the lot.✔️
Now for moving on an outdated computer and the desk.
Thankfully Jane and Mike for the video
Wonderful!
I am so glad that springtime is here. I switch out our heavier comforter and it's burgundy and gold. It gets hung on the line and then stored away, and out comes the lightweight garden print cover for the bed. It just screams it's outdoors inside. I pull down all my heavy drapes and wash them of needed and hang them on the line for a freshen up, then they go back up, but get tied back for the season.
Great ideas! You've given me motivation to get my spring cleaning done! I like to decorate with fresh flowers from the garden. They don't. last too long, but they really beautify a room. I also move furniture or decorations from room to room. A little shuffle can make it feel like a totally new space.
Love that!
I change out table cloths every month amd i change ot sheets and quilts every couple of months. A change is as good for uplifting the spirit!
It certainly is
Joining a local "Buy Nothing" group is a good resource for free home furnishings. I've received new-to-me duvets, pillows, lamps. I've shared extra plants and more. It's also a great way to clear the clutter.
Great tip!
Love your pets
Those wee dogs are darlings
I just decluttered my clothes and shoes. I put away winter shoes and boots and out come the summer shoes and sandals.
Good tip
I totally agree, changing things you have in one area to another, cleaning as you go!
So true!
Great tips! I have been in this house nearly 22 years and always regarded it as a stop gap, but now have to to learn to really love it. Maybe it is time for a repaint, after all these years, together with getting some other bits that will bring me joy. Decluttering is a major imperative, but I am feeling better about it at the moment. Somehow, I have been camping here for these years and now need to allow myself to change things. One question, how do you tackle the stair well when it comes to painting? Doing that alone makes me feel nervous.
Put the ladder on the stairs itself, then lean it safely and use a roller on a pole and a brush on a pole for cutting in
Greeley, we were the same. Lived in our previous house for 27 yrs. Never felt like home, always kept it neutral, ready for selling. Have lived in our new home 3 yrs now, and loving it! Going with the rich colours we love. Taking Janes advice, and using the best China and glasses. Loving our home frugally❤️🇬🇧
Sorry should say Greta! Blooming predictive text🤣
I changed out tablecloth and placemats every 2 weeks
Good idea
Great video 😊
Thank you
❤
A great, inspiring video, as usual. I'm impressed with your homemaking routine, keeping a clean house. I also liked your daily plan of household, sewing, and outside. Im going to implement myself😂.
Thanks so much
We just did a big declutter of tax, insurance and business paperwork. So nice to have it gone.😊
Great ideas! I do these!
Glad you like them!
Great ideas. I sometimes move textiles around the house for a fresh look - for instance i repurposed a sofa throw to give a new look in a bedroom. Moving vases, ornaments and house plants around is an instant refresh, too.
Great tip!
Love the video ❤❤❤
Thanks so much
A very helpful video, thank you! I have a quilt that is falling apart at the seams. Sadly, I don't have a sewing machine. I found a new quilt and bought it impulsively. We'll, it was awful. The material was weird and didn't feel like a quilt at all. I immediately returned it and decided I'll keep my old, beat up one.
Often more comfortable
This video has me feeling the need to get moving on filing paperwork and doing a toss out of junk paperwork sitting on my desk. That stuff just creeps up and accumulates until it seems overwhelming.
It certainly does have
Jane and Mike, I love your videos! I recently read from another frugal person, to be content with what we have. Thinking about getting a new car? How about cleaning out your car and make it look new. Don't like you Bathroom? Spruce it up light some candles and treat your self to a "spa" like experience. I liked this way of thinking and it goes along with what you said.
That is awesome!
I change out bedding depending on season.
Thanks so much, Jane Mike and Puppies
Thank you for watching
Mother said feels good organize and tackle little at a time. Cleaning and finding hidden treasures lost in the clutter. Much like lipstick on your face with a big smile. 😂
Love that!
👍👍👍
I am in my 70s and don't much care for getting up on a ladder to clean my very tall cabinets, and overhead light and fan fixtures. I noticed they are quite dusty and gummy from the gas heat after a long winter. Any good suggestions of tricks and tools I can use to give it a good clean...with my feet planted safely on the floor! 😊 Thanks!
Take it slowly bit by bit
Swifter has a duster that the height exoands. I use itin my tall furniture and fans.
At at new store, like a Lowe’s/ Walmart. combo- they had an extender handle fan blade cleaner. Gum on them probably needs and old sock over the head of it dipped in water/ Dawn . Just a thought
@@rebacarmack8335 Thanks for the ideas. I haven't upgraded my cleaning tools for years. So perhaps it's time! 👍🤗
I always did my own decorating but at nearly 76 I can’t manage anymore.
Oh no, sorry to hear you're not well enough.
