  • Learn how to sew a peplum top from scratch in today’s sewing tutorial - no pattern needed! It's made with a stretch knit fabric which makes it easy to fit and a great sewing project for beginners who know how to use a sewing machine and are ready to learn how to make clothes!
    The blouse is made with a thicker heavy weight stretch knit fabric which gives it the structured look, and heavy knits are easier to sew with than lightweight knits so it's a good project if you want to start learning how to sew with stretch knit fabric; although you could also use a lighter weight knit to make a flowy top without so much structure if you'd like. I give you tips on how to sew and how to hem stretch fabric so you'll be able to make it with confidence!

    MATERIALS NEEDED:
    -At least 1.5 yards of a stretch knit fabric - I used a heavy weight fabric (called jacquard knit) for the structured peplum. Liverpool knit would be the perfect fabric for this project!
    -A fitted top with sleeves to use as a template (it won’t get cut up or destroyed)
    -Sewing Machine: this is the machine I use: amzn.to/2HcBk3b *
    -Ball Point Needles: these are what I use: amzn.to/3ehIgvi *
    -Thread: this is my favorite because it’s strong & durable (I've found its worth buying better quality thread because cheaper thread breaks a lot, especially on stretch fabric): amzn.to/2TEiTbr *
    -Scissors: this is a great affordable set I’ve had for years: amzn.to/2NMnZBl *
    -(Optional) Walking Foot: if you’re using a stretch fabric that sews really wavy, a walking foot can help it sew smoother. Here’s the one I use with my Singer machine: amzn.to/2NkhoxP *
    -Pins
    -Tracing paper: amzn.to/3hiJkj9 *
    -Tape Measure

    WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
    You'll learn all the steps for cutting and stitching this shirt, including how to use a shirt you own as a sewing pattern to cut out your bodice, how to make a sleeve pattern, how to sew the pieces together, and how to hem the raw edges to create a fully finished blouse. I also give you my tips and tricks for how to sew stretchy fabric.

      Hmm, I wonder - could you make a strip of fabric that you could attach to the back of the neckline from shoulder to shoulder that would help hold the shoulders up around you? I haven't done this myself but it might be a solution to be able to keep the neckline/shoulders in place, plus it would add a fun detail! I hope that helps some!

Do you have a lot of beautiful fall foliage there? Our leaves haven't changed a whole lot and a lot of them have fallen due to wind from tropical storms that came through so it's pretty bland here. • @janetrodgers8473
    @janetrodgers8473 Před 5 lety +2

    Well done, it's beautiful, your explanation is great.
    I personally would have bodice to waist, then peplum. I'm 4'10 size 8/10, as I'm short, it simply looks better, plus I need a slightly drapier fabric.
    You taller people get away with it! 🙂
    I see in US and other Countries Petite is 5'4" and under! Where was I when this changed? Growing up it was always 5'2" and under. 2" is a lot for us Petites 😁... we count every eight of an inch!
    No, I jest. My height has never been an issue. My shortest boyfriend was 5'6". Husband a tad over 6'. In between, there weren't many, but they were all tall, which always made my Mum laugh! Me too. Nowadays, young people have such phobias about height, weight, etc.
    I was always told great goods come in small packages, so I was oblivious that I was short. I wish it were the same for young ones now, with all this body conscience nonsense and mimicking so-called Celebrities, it's really tough on them.
    That's where sewing helps. You can make what you like and it fits....

      Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked the top! Yes, I love the peplum tops with the bodices that are longer but I can never seem to pull them off myself LOL! They always look great on petite frames :)
      Haha wow you have quite the height difference between you and your hubby!!! I always think it's cute when I see couples that are a super tall guy with a petite girl! I'm glad that you didn't have any issues with self-conscience because you are so right, these days it is SO extreme! On social media everyone's either too short, too tall, too heavy, too skinny... nobody is left alone! Luckily I was a teenager right before Facebook and social media really exploded so any issues I had with being self conscience over anything wasn't magnified by everything I'd see online... But now kids never escape it. They're always online or on social media, they're even more susceptible to bullying, and the only things they usually see of what they're "supposed" to look like is fake, photoshopped, or a result of plastic surgery! It's horrible! Hopefully one day we'll see a world where all sizes, shapes, heights, colors, etc. will be accepted but I think we'll always have those ignorant people who will find something to pick on. But I guess until then, we all just gotta stick together and be kind to one another :)

    H, love your tutorials. I don't have stretch fabric but a lightweight polyester. With Covid 19 now, I am not going to fabric stores. Do i have to make pieces bigger? Thank you.

      Thank you, I’m glad you enjoy them! This one won’t work with non stretch fabric with the way I made it because it wouldn’t fit right, but I do have a playlist of some projects I’ve made with non stretch fabrics that you might be able to use your fabric for 😃 I also have a new tutorial coming up most likely later today that uses non stretch fabric so I hope you’ll enjoy it! Thanks for watching and stay safe!

      Thanks for watching them - I’m happy you like them! I use a ball point needle for all my stretch fabrics. If you scroll partway down in the description of this video I have a link to the ball point needles I always buy if you would like to see what they are 😃

      Yeah it could definitely work with a full circle!! It’d be an even fuller peplum which I think would look great! Thank you for watching 😃

    First of all i love your tutorials. Second i just made this top CV and i dont have the flare on my peplum. I used stretch ponte. Can you tell me where i went wrong? Does the peplum suppost to be wider than the shirt or do they suppose to be the same size?

    • @ComicatCreations
      @ComicatCreations  Před 4 lety

      Thank you, I’m glad you enjoy them! Hmm I wonder, is the fabric you used more light and flowy? If it doesn’t have much structure it may just kind of hang rather than flaring out. The peplum and shirt were the same size on the ones I’ve made.

    Oooooo so you subtract and not add to get ur seam allowance. Thanks so much. Been wondering y every time I cut mine it's never enough

    • @ComicatCreations
      @ComicatCreations  Před 5 lety +1

      For most things when sewing you do have to add a half inch to get seam allowance, but when you’re doing the calculations for a circle or half circle skirt (or peplum in this case) you have to subtract for just that one step because of the way we calculate and draw out the waist! 😃

    Where did u get 3.14 from?

    • @ComicatCreations
      @ComicatCreations  Před 4 lety

      3.14 (which is Pi) is the number/formula you have to use to be able to draw a half circle, which is what this peplum top uses to get the flared peplum part 😃

    I'm hoping to get into sewing soon! I'm a complete beginner (I don't even have a sewing machine yet lol) but I just have to say that this tutorial will be the first one that I use. Thank you so much for making it so easy to understand and straight forward. Can't wait to try this!
    😊
