    In this review, I put the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 2022 version head-to-head with the 2023 version! The craziest part about this review is that the 2022 actually outperforms the 2023 model---something I was very shocked to find out. They both have some pretty key differences both internally and exteriorly that I talk about in this head-to-head review.
    Check out this video to see me run through all the differences and benchmarks that really make the 2022 model stand out from the 2023 model!

    Game benchmarks would have been nice. These are all just productivity suites that are more RAM intensive. You mentioned it, but also largely glossed over it with only said brief mention.
    If you’re the primary target audience for this laptop (gamers) I am willing to bet the higher refresh rate, better screen, and better GPU are going to be far more important than productivity/models suites.

    • @one_step_sideways
      @one_step_sideways Před rokem +4

      I think it's going to be a little better, but the Ryzen 7 6800HS already has great energy efficiency to maximise battery life. Perhaps around 10 hours is achievable with the harder to run applications. And you can also undervolt the Ryzen 7 7840HS and Ryzen 9 7940HS (and Ryzen 9 6900HS/HX) laptops using the Universal x86 Tuning Utility ver. 1, which would further increase energy efficiency and power consumption (as well as performance on the charger). Finally, a 100W GaN charger should let you charge your laptop very fast even when you are using it to do something (switch to Silent mode when it's charging like that with a 100W charger to maximise charging speed - the performance doesn't scale linearly and you will have around 80-90% of the performance at Silent mode compared to Performance, which consumes a lot more energy)

    2022 was a great value when it came out while the 2023s just aren't. You have to pay up for higher models of the 2023 just to match what you got in the base 2022! Unless you need CUDA or want the highest spec version of 2023, it's outcompeted by the 2022. A fun fact about the 2022, you can put in a 32gb ram stick and get 40 GB of ram! I can confirm it works with the crucial 32GB stick CT32G48C40S5.

    This is tough, but of the two models I still have the 2023 edging out the 2022 for the memory upgrade path alone. Also Nvidia architecture is superior in many different creative workflows to AMD. GPU and memory upgrade path with the option (if you can afford it) to upgrade to a miniLED display make the 2023 product lineup as a whole superior to 2022 AMD departure for creators.

    • @Flashback_Jack
      @Flashback_Jack Před 8 měsíci +2

      The two laptops are equal but different, if that makes sense. For gaming, the AMD GPU does noticeably better at lower resolutions (1080p mainly) while the NVIDIA fares way better at higher resolutions (1440p in this case), especially if the games support raytracing and DLSS where the AMD GPU fares significantly worse. I agonized over these two for the past three or four days and ended up going with the 2023 model with the RTX 4060.
      NVIDIA just provides the better value and I'm just used to them given that my desktops have their GPUs. Shadowplay in Geforce Experience for recording gameplay footage is just amazing with its low overhead. NVIDIA is better supported across a variety of production and gaming apps and I like their constant driver updates too, so there's that.

    This is a typical trash video.
    In order for small gaming laptops to achieve higher cooling performance in limited space, providing two replaceable RAM slots has become less of a priority.
    The 2022 g14 model adds 8GB in one replaceable slot to the onboard 8GB, making it 16GB. In this case, the problem is that even if the capacity of the replaceable RAM slot is increased, performance is reduced compared to the full dual channel.
    For example, even if you add 32GB to the basic 8GB onboard to make it 40GB, only 8x8GB is recognized as dual channel, and in this flex mode, it is not faster than the 8GB 16GB configuration. It's a gaming laptop in name, but because of the 8GB onboard, you're forced to use 16GB to use full dual-channel speed.

      So, for the 2023 model, the onboard RAM was increased to 16GB. In this case, if 16GB is installed in the replaceable RAM slot, the RAM capacity that can be used at full dual-channel speed will double to 32GB. This is enough for gaming or work.
      The g14 is not a cost-effective laptop, and you will most likely purchase the laptop with an additional 16GB of RAM and install it yourself, or purchase it as an additional installation from a seller... How many users would buy an expensive laptop and use it without inserting an additional 16GB of RAM into the replacement RAM slot to save money? lol

    Asus are desperate to destroy their reputation in 2023, first with their motherboards and now this. All that's left for them is to strike a sponsorship deal with Dylan Mulvaney...

      Idk, 16gb soldered makes it way better for upgrading to 32gb.
