- K24 Swapped Fit Head Gasket Fix and Driving Impressions
By Aaron Gaghagen and Brian Gillespie
OK, last time it was a dyno fail for our K24 GE Fit. As disappointing as that was, it's important to remember that this little hatchback started out as a weak L15 non-turbo and an automatic. Even with the possibility of a blown head gasket, its already way faster. This time around we try to fix the AC and get the water leak sealed with a new head gasket.

Please please more FIT content. This is becoming the most popular car. I just got mine, now I wanna k swap it.
Thanks for watching! The Fit is great and we will have more Fit stuff.
I have the same Gen2 fit, and the a/c going off was the relays near the driverside headlight went bad, replaced and a/c came back perfectly
I’m following along because I can’t wait to replace things as they break. I look forward to having a fun day car. Lol hopefully with working A/C
Ahahah! Hell yeah!
I am a simple man, I see a vtec academy fit video, I click on it
Thank you very much!
Noooo don't be discouraged in this project please. I really want to see this project through. ❤
I’ve seen other GE8 on CZcams killing it out there. I really hope to see the same for this one so I can follow along on this project too.
We’ll get it running properly with AC.
Thank you for making this. I have been researching right before you started the series, and it has been a major resource for me.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the content on this swap, as I am currently building a k24 fit too. Keep up the great work👍🏽
Awesome! It really wakes the car up.
thank you for exploring this swap, so cool to see all the problems so i dont run into them :-)
You are welcome! That's why we show it. Hopefully when people get stuck at home, they will see how to get through it.
I own this exact model of Fit and I’ve always wondered why it doesn’t get more attention online. It’s a Honda so there’s plenty of good engines to swap into it and the opportunity for power is limitless once you swap. It’s such a fun and practical little car. Once my Fit loses most of its value and I get a new car, I’m gonna make a K24 race car out of it.

You guys are going to end up making me buy a Fit! LOL
Love it!!!
They can be quite fun, maybe you should!
you guys need one of those valve tools with the flat head in the middle
Have one, but someone broke it.
Hey man, the hood has another spot by the cowl to put the rod into allowing you open the hood higher. It goes almost straight up
True
Man i love this videos, i hope one day i can install a k24 on my GD3
K is the way!
I do believe the AC problem is actually a rpm sensor for the compressor. I forget which year civic I replaced a compressor on for a customer, but it was similar symptoms. First start, if the AC was manualkly left on, it would cycle on for a few seconds, get angry and shut it off. If AC was off, started the car, turned AC on, it would run for a bit longer. I really think it was a 2014 or so civic. Not 100%. Just rolling off the dome.
Or perhaps it was a compressor temp sensor. Again, crappy memory. But the second I roll into the shop in the morning, I will remember to forget to remember after work lol
I did buy a fit. Knowing I'm gonna kswap it . Just had the chain stretch.
Beautiful engine cart
Did u guys have to modify the ac lines there’s a lot of ppl who had trouble getting there ac on it would be great to see a vid going into details how u did the ac but all in all my time for the k series in the fit is coming I can’t wait
Hello, chaps, thanks for the hard work!
One slightly complicated question: how different are the chassis across generations? Is this swap applicable to say a GK body?
Yes it is.
Would a K24Z7 engine be a good option as well? (the fixable oem ecu/crank trigger "issue" aside). I'll have the original 9th gen Si K24Z trans and engine out of my 9th soon.
im worried about how that engine is pushing coolant. hope you can fix it.
I know you mentioned it in the other video, but anyway you can share the write up or do a video explaining in more detail the k24a2? I feel that engine in my opinion has much more support for aftermarket then the z3. Def want to do this swap but I would so much prefer the a2 over the z3, anyways thank you for the detailed videos, keep up the great work!!!
K24a2 is all over Google. Do some research
The AC issue could be the compressor. I remember I bought a new ac compressor for my crz and it worked but it would turn on for a bit then shut off. Turns out the new compressor was deffected. Got another new one and it worked perfectly. So it might be the compressor causing issues.
Would love to know how the mpgs are when this project is tuned and ready 👍
It should easily do well over 30 mpg on the highway since it's much lighter than the TSX the swap came out of. If we get a chance to do a mpg test, we will be sure to share the info.
@@VTECAcademyyes please do share data on MPGs. All my k vehicles (that were k to begin w) get 25-27 max even when swapped
Does @VTECAcademy do swaps for customers? Thanks
Did you guys check the head or block before throwing it back together? Seems like all you did was buff the mate surface on the block and throw it back together (with a new gasket I assume).
the gk next pls🥺
Rick Sanchez is working at HASPORT LOL.😂
I would love to purchase that car and use it how it is!
Do a J pipe style resonator on the fit or it's called a Helmholtz resonator. Would make a super cool video to see how it affects drone on k series engines!!
Yes, we have seen those. That could be interesting.
let us know when it's for sale!
Was the ac issue ever resolved? I’m interested in doing a k swap in mine and would love ac 🥶
I wish I can do this to my fit
You can!
Hi, looks, sound and run good……what about automatic? Can I’ll fit a k24 automatic transmisión? To much traffic for daily drive in Miami…..
I think you've done a few swaps with Fits, for the GD3 are any of them relatively fool proof or is any swap always a adventure and a half?
We need to revisit that particular swap. I think it would be a little easier now that I’ve done a few.
I'll be very curious to see what price you put on this, as its EXACTLY the car I am looking for.
More fit
❤
Thank you!!
Am a retired 64 year old ME and have been perusing your videos as time permits. Cut to the chase; I purchased my 2010 4 spd FIT new some 221k miles ago and it's been rock-solid reliable with absolutely NOTHING but regular maintenance and consumables, however the driverside seat now shows some wear which I'll address. I'm VERY interested in this conversion with the following caveats,
1. California smog compliance.
2. Car currently has the OEM 14" wheels with 185/65 profile tires and all 4 shocks are koni gas with OEM springs and a rear swaybar. Love the ride/handling and it doesn't need to be touched if possible
3. I'd like to keep the exhaust decibel level at OEM.
4. AC function is imperative.
Can this be accomplished?
-doc
1. That is something you would need to talk with your local authority. We have heard about people getting their swaps to pass BAR, but have not done it ourselves yet. www.bar.ca.gov/consumer/smog-check-program/engine-changes
2. You don’t have to change a thing.
3. You can get close, but you won’t get the maximum benefit of the swap. Using smaller diameter pipe and adding a resonator will make a big difference.
4. AC can be done. We just haven’t ironed it all out to tell you what to do.
@@VTECAcademy Thank you kindly for the prompt reply. I'll keep a keen eye on your ongoing progress. You've earned another subscriber.
Engine Changes
Engine changes are legal as long as the following requirements are met to ensure that the change does not increase pollution from the vehicle:
* The engine must be the same year or newer than the vehicle.
* The engine must be from the same type of vehicle (passenger car, light-duty truck, heavy-duty truck, etc.) based on gross vehicle weight.
* If the vehicle is a California certified vehicle then the engine must also be a California certified engine.
* All emissions control equipment must remain on the installed engine.
Question now is:
Where do I source a 2010 or newer K24 originally fitted to a Califonia car? Wishful thinking on unobtanium perhaps.
Once the AC is swapped over where is it getting listed? Im interested as i have been considering buying a Fit to swap myself
We will make a post here and on our Instagram and Facebook. Make sure you subscribe to not miss it.
My question is did they ever get the a/c figured out?? Some folks don’t care but I do 😂
Gathering parts for this now. Do you know if ILX 6 speed transmission is the same mount as the 9th Gen Si?
The cases are identical.
@@VTECAcademy Thanks!
How different is a kswap in a gd3 compared to the ge8?
Very
The suspension on the GE8 Fit is very soft even for the stock L15A engine, it feels very floaty when quickly changing directions/weight transitions and buckles/squats even under light braking. By adding this k24, you're almost tripling the whp of the L15A which clearly means the suspension won't be able to handle that, let alone higher grip tires.
For all you viewers thinking about doing this, don't just focus on power - also remember balance is key.
Larger Brakes and suspension are w/o question gonna be required. I know brian briefly brought it up, but i wish these guys did a better job at stressing how important that is during test drives/driving impressions so inexperienced viewers can understand it, they'll respect it - if you tell it.
You aren’t even doubling the weight of the L15
These cars should be the future of Honda swaps
Dude, you should get a Fit!
I’d be interested in purchasing this, will be in Nevada. How do I get in line
Send an email to VTEC.Academy(a)Gmail.com
What's up man big fan I had a question for you and hope you could help I k24 TSX and I'm getting an error code for knock sensor. I have no power under hard acceleration is really bogged down is the issue from the knock sensor
If you have excessive knock, it will retard the ignition and won’t go into VTEC.
@@VTECAcademy no it's just like regular driving around it's an automatic and like when I go to pool off from like a light it's really really sluggish like when I push the pedal in it's like I'm having to push it to the floor and it's really bogged down
I had a buddy tell me he ran his without the knock sensor do you think I should just disconnect it
Will a k24z3 fit a 07 civic ex manual coupe?
Yes, but it will require some modifications to the crank angle sensor and cam gears to work
would you ever consider k24z7/6 speed swapping an ek?
We have one
@@VTECAcademy what video was that?
Are you guys fit shaming at the end 😂 beautiful fit k swap
LOL Never!
You can go 8200 rpm all day on those motors stock.
Yeah, we’ll probably get more RPM at the dyno.
You can but they don't make power beyond 7500
@@sjhudon386 they make up till 7.8-7.9 depending intake manifold used
Stock plastic mani only peaks at 7.4-7.5
I think vtech academy should do a subscriber build. Pick me😂. I have an 08 sport with close to 300k. Everything on it getting tired. I Would love to K24 swap. Been looking local wrecking yards for good donor.
Off the topic question! Will a 2004 crv engine and trans(hehe) match up with a 2006 crv???? I really like my crv with 300k on it. But everyone(shady mechanics) keep telling me to sell it and stop wasting money on it. But the body has no rust for being a Massachusetts car
According to Wikipedia, the drivetrain and suspension were carried over from the 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen cr-v so it should match.
@@keiserious I don't trust Wikipedia I don't trust the internet but I do trust Honda Academy
As long as the block is a K24A1, it is the same engine. If you go to Carrdashpart.com you may be able to find those engines with less than 150,000 miles for $800-$1000.
@@VTECAcademy yall are the best! I will thank u
@@VTECAcademy so i found a transmission for my 06 crv. Now how many quart of trans oil do i need to put back in??? Mechanic told me 7 quarts but i thought it was 3 and half quarts
Can I get some assistance with my Nissan k swap?!
What do you need?
@@VTECAcademy there is zero info on swapping a K in a fwd 200sx Nissan. Let’s start there :) I’m thinking a mount kit you use from HASport could probably be adapted? Or new ones made. I’m only a couple hours drive from Phoenix so I could always bring the car in :)
What other body style are you talking about at roughly 23 minutes
Pleaseeee do a auto gk5 fit to manual swap. Help the people who just want a manual!! Lol
There should be enough info in the video to figure out how to do that.
it needs a turbo
Maybe the next owner will do it.
Got schooled by 2 Brian's 😮
All the Brians!
@@VTECAcademy 🤣
15:21 👁️👄👁️ 🤣
Classic! 😂
no hate but brian #2 needs to practice his driver mod lol
Ahahahha!
Yeaaaaah. You guys managed to make an Audi. And by that I mean the first step to any engine maintenance is remove engine. But really, I love this project. Keep it up please.
I can sell my si , buy the fit and the swap and save money on gas and have more parking options.
