How to Shut Off Traffic Signal Detection

- Today, I show how to shut off a detector card channel for vehicle detection. This was after a complaint from the public that side streets had long wait times before receiving a green light. It was a quick temporary fix to optimize the traffic signal until a permanent fix could be applied.

Good explanation!
Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated!
I am very interested in this kind of content
I really appreciate your videos
Keep making them ill keep watching them 😁
@mrblocksly2020 -Then I'll keep them coming! 😅 Thanks for the kind comments
Interesting video. I love the sound of the clicking relays lol
Would be interesting to know what the fix is - even sharing some possibilities would help us understand. Guess it's not as simple as slapping in a new card.
@CubbyTech Good Call! Sometimes a new card does fix the issue. Actually one of my troubleshooting procedures is usually to swap card slots with a known good detector card. If the problem moves, I know its the card. If the problem stays, its downstream to the street. I was in a hurry that day and had just enough time to turn on my phone to capture what I was doing. Very insightful! Want a signal tech job?? LOL
Speaking of coronation, can you do a video in-depth to green factors, force off, offsets, cycle lengths, master and local clocks….
I have a video "Setting Time for Coordination in a Traffic Signal Controller" that talks a little about that. I have an upcoming video (still need to edit) that goes into a little more of what your talking about. AND I plan on doing a little more as Coordination seems to be a popular search...Thanks for asking!
Never seen the insides of one of these. Seems crazy they still use mech relays.
You would be surprised. This was a middle of the road cabinet for us. I maintain some that are much more sophisticated and others that were still when the dinosaurs roamed the earth...
Can you make a video or comment on loop delay amplifiers? particularly how 2 channels differ from 4 channels and how you can connect them? thanks you!
Hey Paulin--I'll put it on my list. Thanks!
What kind of camera or device are you using that keeps showing red and green boxes popping up?
LOL. That's my poor man's video editing software. It's my attempt at highlighting the portion of the video I want you to focus on...
So is this why the lights around here are so bad? There's one that's constantly triggering the left turn signal even when there are no cars present, and it stays on forever. If it's failed, it's just assuming there's a car there and running for the max time? That would explain a lot.
Wow! You completely understood my video explanation!? LOL That sounds like what is exactly going on
I'm curious actually, do bicycles get detected or is their mass just to low? I've passed or sat on top of the loops on my bicycle before and still had to wait ages for the lights. Then a car comes up behind me and they seem to change a lot faster. I try to get forward of the loop or closer to the ones with the camera looking detectors so that they can detect a car behind me. Thanks :)
Could be several resons. If your bike isn't made of metal, then the inductive loop will not detect you. Cameras will (or at least should). If your bike IS made of metal, could be a couple other reasons : 1) the detection sensitivity is not set high enough on the detector card to detect your bike (mass) 2) Your not sitting in the detection area.
If there is a pedestrian crossing, many times I see bikers ride up and push the ped button so that they don't have to worry about being detected. If all else fails, find out the municipality's contact number (probably Public Works Dept) and tell them the issue. There may also be a problem going on there that they're not aware of.
I'm seeing more and more dedicated bike lanes being added to traffic signal projects. This setup will have smaller detection zones/loops specifically for bikes. Great question!
No. Nor do motorcycles and we sit there with our dick in our hands waiting for a car to come along.
@@streetsmartstrafficyou street smart you ride plastic bikes right?
@@pikadroo Metal or Carbon. But metal mostly
@@streetsmartstrafficI take it my aluminium bicycle has no chance then unless there's some weird induction current lol 😅
I hated driving my little 50cc moped. The lights near me would never change because I weighed next to nothing. My best bet was to press a pedestrian crossing button. 😅
I see many bike riders have to do this unless they have dedicated bike lanes with proper detection setup at the intersection. Otherwise, it's the ped button to the rescue!
That you guys make signals for traffic control and then adopt the modern open source model where the municipalities have to watch your video online where everyone can see it is outrageous. Just to learn how to do a thing you probably don’t document anyplace.
What can I say? I'm transparent with what needs to be done. And actually, its the best documentation you could probably do....Other than the tech log I fill out in every cabinet about the issue, the step taken and any follow up actions and then a phone call to let all responsible parties know...
