Were the dinosaurs doomed BEFORE the Space Rock hit?

Paleontologists are pretty confident that a meteor finished off the dinosaurs, but some scientists believe that another, Earth-based disaster meant the writing was already on the wall for our poor dinosaurs! Who's right, and can scientists figure it out without biasing it toward their favorite pet theories?

I honestly doubt that non-avian dinosaurs would ever go extinct without the meteor. I’m not a fan of determinism.
