Scientists recorded INDIVIDUAL NEURONS to learn how our brains count numbers

  • We count small numbers (up to 4 or so) differently than we do large ones: one we can do accurately and near-instantly ("subitizing"), while the other involves some estimation. But are they different processes inside our brain? Or is counting simply inefficient at larger scales?

      Seriously. I can't imagine how stressful that kind of procedure must be, so it's incredible that patients going through it are willing to help scientists along the way
