Im from Hungary. Back in 2007, I read in a magazine's concert recommendatory section titled
"The Gallallaghers (Oasis) favourite band is playing in Budapest!". Well, I didn't went to the concert, but I checked the band's music. The first song I listened to was called 'Club Foot', of course by Kasabian ;) Seen them 3x live since, so you are right.
It's a ton of work. He's done his part.

Agree with the write a chorus part. What modern band or artist has written a chorus as amazing as the Masterplan, Sad Song or Cast No Shadow? People slag Noel off for ripping off riffs but his vocal melodies (arguably much harder to come up with than riffs) are hands down up there with Paul McCartney and Ray Davies.

I'm of the same generation as his daughter. Perhaps I'm in a minority but I obsess over albums and the small details of them. I listen to mainly older music so that is perhaps why-it is worth obsessing about. If his daughter is glued to her phone, doesn't know about artwork and only knows of singles, I think it says more about her than it does a whole generation! I hate it when then generalise! If young people love good music, then they look for it. I don't think being young and having a phone is an excuse to being into boring people and crap music- it just shows your disinterest in it.
The majority of kids are exactly like he described. Not all of them, but the majority are exactly like that. It doesn't mean it's bad, it just means it's a different approach to things.

I remember a time when I was a kid and I used go through a lot to get my hands on a record . But man when I got it I used to listen to it for hours and hours and hours . I used to know every bit of it by heart , I used to know every drum beat and every time signatures and even if it wasn't a very good album I listened to it so much until I fell in love with it . ( Adore by Smashing pumpkins for example , or EVOL by Sonic youth )
These days a friend comes by and gives me a hard drive with 700 records on it . And none of them feel special to me as the old records that I got on cassette and CD were .
Time marches on, and leaves plenty of nostalgia in its wake. Thank you so much for sharing!

Today's music scene is whatever is doing the rounds online which is either luck, knowing somebody who's big and collaborating or something to do with Simon cowell.
It's a fucking disgrace.
But... If Oasis had the internet, they'd never have got a look in. What kids want proper rock stars. They want meek, mild mannered, upper/middle class pop stars. Even twats like kanye west wouldn't get a look in since he got he got lucky. The only one who would have made it alone is Eminem, purely because of the "white rapper" thing.

I agree with you, except I think kids Do want rock stars, they just aren't given the chance to have them! With the music industry being in shambles now the big record companies and advertisers want safe, pop acts that they know for a fact they can get a return on their investment (ie: someone the whole family will love). They don't want to take a chance on someone controversial or a little crazy, they want "safe"... So the kids don't have anyone current to get excited about, because it's not even an option in mainstream music anymore, it's actually sad IMO
great interview and I agree with most of it. the part where he says the Internet makes it easy for great artist to become noticed and successful, not so much. back in Noels day everything was simply. there was a lot more record labels and a lot less music. now days everything's up in the air with bands anyway, cd/records don't sell the way they used too and anything that u can sell now can be illegally bought online so...

You can argue the opposite about the internet though. It's so ridiculously saturated with musicians and bands that there must be a lot of hidden gems in the huge 99.9% pile of shit that is on the internet. Many of which will get lost.
Plenty of technology, plenty of pretty faces, plenty of young women with nice butts, plenty of generic sounding music with the same beats but slightly diferent lyrics - but no great songs.
There's plenty of great songs out now. They're just not on the radio

Yes, maybe a good song here and there but it's scarce and it feels so digital. How can we expect the same quality of music when the songwriting and the recording environment just isn't there? Father John Misty, Ariel Pink, Parquet Courts. Three very different artists but they write with meaning so if you give them a chance you might like them. Do give them a chance though. I'd recommend lipstick by Ariel Pink, Nancy from now on by FJM and the Parquet courts kexp gig on youtube, the one in the bike factory, theyre good songs to get in to them. Let me know what you think. Musicians havent stopped making good music, record company's have just stopped taking risks on them

@@benrowles5289 nah the smiths beat them all by a landslide, in the very short 5 year span they were together, they made some of the best music ever. As much as I love Oasis, they don't comes close to the smiths, 4 great albums and 3 almost perfect ones.

@@benrowles5289 I love their first two albums, they have hit after hit on each one. But I prefer any of the big three smiths albums to them. The Smiths resonate with me more in terms of lyrics and I mean it's safe to say there's no comparision to Noel Gallagher and Johnny Marr for guitar playing, Johnny is one of the best ever. Oasis did conquer the world and The Smiths didn't achieve as much as them in global success but I think the actual music The Smiths made is a lot better.
Just a heads up, the internet doesn't always make any good band famous like he mentions above. The internet is absolutely overwhelmingly full of musicians that you have to wade through a lot of shit to find that golden nugget, especially in a mainstream format like pop/rock.
Some genres thrive with the use of the internet, but even then it gets a bit too crowded eventually and makes it difficult. The problem now is that rock music is increasingly losing relevance. There hasn't really been anything new since grunge and britpop, or any "scene/movement" since the various revivals in the early 2000's of post punk, garage rock, etc.
We just need something new with a bunch of bands involved, and hey presto, you'll have something you can get a bunch of kids attached to.
Love a NG interview. He knows what he's talking about and is very interesting to listen to. As for the interviewer, Im unsure of his name but Ive seen a few interviews with him and he is absolutely brilliant.
I think the internet has been worse for music business in my opinion. Sure you can reach millions, but that argument killed the labels and nowadays theres like almost no people interested in managing artists and getting band signed. Where I live there are 0 Pop Rock music labels. So great bands that have great song have nowhere to go because there aren't options and it sucks being all day on the internet trying to promote a song that at the end of the day it's almost stuck in 100 plays.

1:15 That's an interesting point, but I don't think its really true. A few artists I've seen locally are truly great and should make it, but you've got to be in the right time for your music.

I disagree with the idea that it's just the songs that are keeping people from breaking out and making it big. If a song is on the radio- even if you hate it- you're going to hear it eventually. and then you'll likely hear it again. and again. and proceed to hear it so many times over the next few weeks that you'll be humming it, despite once hating it. That's force-fed media in my eyes. They play songs so frequently that they _become_ hits, even if they're just over-produced trash that is only on the radio because some big wig record label put up a shit tonne of money to distribute it/force it on the public. On the internet, however, you have to actively seek it out and make the effort to hear things. You could have amazing localized groups/musicians with only 5000 views on their CZcams videos. If people don't know you exist, you aren't going to be searched for/found. So you need that traditional mainstream breakout/connection for people to even know to Google you in the first place. Despite arguably being the most accessed medium for entertainment going at the moment, the internet is so broad and so huge that it's easy to be a needle in a haystack. Almost any amateur musician can record a decently-professional album in their home, auto-tune the shit out of it, and publish it for free on the internet. There is such a vast ocean of media to tread through now because of that; It's easy to be overwhelmed as a casual listener and be unwilling to have a proper listen to everything you happen to come across (as opposed to it being force-fed to you on the radio).

This is where I'd argue record labels can really help a band. They can get a band with a dedicated following to more people. But still, I think a lot of people don't realize how much needs to be put into making a song.

I don't consider myself a pop music fan but every now and then I'll hear something on the radio that sounds kinda catchy and yeah, I'll find myself humming it. But once I've heard it every day for two weeks straight, that's the point where I immediately hate it.

Yes ...the internet gives you ability to get your product out there instantly. It also oversaturates the market. Any crap band can put out an album ...putting an album out twenty ...thirty years ago was a huge endeavor, and you had better be pretty good to put that much money and effort into it.
Well yes and no, nobody today is looking bands on the internet, it's the telly and live gigs still that matter on that behalf, but more likely it's that becuz of the internet you can download anything you want, so even if you were a good at playing music, you can't work as a musician and since you can't work as a musician, you don't produce that good or that much songs and the thing kinda eventually fades away as a phase in life...
When I was a kid and got an album I’d have to keep listening to it coz didn’t have many others and I’d spent a lot of money on it. The amount of albums I’d have to listen to a lot before I got into it is quite a few and nowadays I wouldn’t have bothered! People can’t appreciate it the same these days!

HAve to admit. I've have never been a fan of the Gallagher brothers as people. I've always hated there "attitude" however, I have to agree with everything he is saying here (with the exception of who is the best band to come out of Manchester!)

Oasis have well written songs but the Stone Roses are far better. Oasis is good to sing along to but TSR have so much more soul and atmosphere. They elevate you a lot more.
brandon mcgaw Well, it's quite subjective. I personally tried to get in to The Stone Roses and mainly because I love I wanna be adored.. but only just few songs speak to me and tbh.. The Stone Roses are all about one album anyway :).

+brandon mcgaw I do really love the Stone Roses, and their first album is absolute god-tier, but it was lightning in a bottle. Oasis managed to make two incredible albums (three if you include The Masterplan) and a few more great ones. So I'd say purely on longevity and consistency, Oasis wins.
Noel's definitely proved himself to be a much better songwriter, because even now with High Flying Birds he's still making gold while Ian Brown is doing fuck all.

chameleons uk were a great band ! bands from the mid eighties and early nineties from the uk were great.
I would have to agree with Noel here, it really is about the songs.
I've strayed from American rock bands because they sound so plain these days. My favorite band right now is a Japanese rock band called ART SCHOOL.
If anybody is interested look them up, they’re fantastic. The first song you should listen to is Lost In The Air.
At the same time while the internet is everywhere, it is increasingly harder to find new bands. Everyone is in their own corner including the fans. The people are not enthusing about a new band rubbing the record in your face going "you gotta listen this !" It is about being cool with plugs in the ear with perhaps 500 others around the world that make no impact on the rest.
Can someone please recommend bands or artists like oasis I recently discovered them and o want to explore more into it.

I disagree that the internet would find the great unsigned bands & unreleased songs as there are millions of bands uploading their material online.. the competition is very high & the chance of a large audience listening to your unsigned band is about the same odds as the old 'needle in a haystack '.
Noel is arrogant in a way that makes me just love him. He takes pride in everything that he does and I believe that is the attitude everyone should have.

+GoldenSunX Average band with not that many good tunes. Lucky they have Dave Fridmann mixing their stuff because he is incredible and can literally polish a turd. Not that they're a turd, they're alright but they owe a hell of a lot to Mr Fridmann, he is the one who shapes their whole sound. And their soundscape is far more impressive than the songs.
I guess Noel hasn't heard anything by Catfish and the bottlemen yet.They are pretty solid.

That's pretty dumb to be honest. There is good music out there, it isn't the music that's the problem. Record labels are the ONLY ones who determine what is popular, they hold all the cards. They'd rather play it safe. They couldn't care less about good music, all they want to promote is what will sell, which is crap pop. It isn't the songs, it is the audience and the industry
ActionStudios4 That's kind of what he was talking about, he mentions the days of independent labels run by guys like Daniel Miller, Alan McGhee and Tony Wilson where great music was getting put out there, but nobody has the passion to do that anymore so it's all gone back to the big labels putting out 100% of the music

Gota love Noel hes always good value in interviews . just wish to god he would stop being disrespectful to Bands and solo artistes who are way better than anything he has ever been involved in . ie Genesis and Phil collins who to be fair he couldnt hold a candle too but hey . as i say he does do good interview lol .
