St. Vincent on All Born Screaming, oversharing, and working with Tori Amos
The Grammy-winning musician St. Vincent, also known as Annie Clark, is back with a new album, “All Born Screaming.” Her last album, “Daddy’s Home,” was a wild trip through the ‘70s that explored her relationship with her father after his release from prison. But with “All Born Screaming,” she says she’s ready to let the music speak for itself. St. Vincent talks to Tom about the record, her collaborators, and where she’s at in her continuing evolution.

Geddy speaks of Neil with such a respect in his voice,...the emotions are laid bare, whether he intends it, or not. The care in his voice when speaking of his friend,....the concern,... The Love,..the almost "ambience" of his voice as he speaks of him. It's not forced,...it's not fake,...it's genuine concern when speaking of Neil's family losses, and the pain he had to endure getting through it. And when Geddy says "i could tell then that he was truly 'back in the fold'", is like Geddy outright saying "i was SO GLAD to see my friend was back with us (Al & Ged), even though there wasn't much i could do, or did to help him." The whole "timber" of Ged's voice when speaking of these things, shows me that Ged would have given anything to keep his friend from having to go through those things he had to endure. But in the end, Ged saw that Neil had "gotten back",...was as whole as possible again, or as whole as one could expect, and it relieved Ged, because he KNEW, from his own experiences with his father's death at 12 years old, and others he mentions, that no one can go through those things for you, but you wish you could, if even just a little, to help your friend,..ease their pain, if just a tad. And when you see them get back (without much actual help from the concerned friend), that it is a relief, i.e. "WOW!,...took a while, but i'm GLAD that my friend who was feeling awful & enduring things that are so tough, that are SO BAD, is finally back." EVERYONE on this Earth needs a true, REAL friend like that.

Something that makes Nanalan special is how it's engaging for kids and adults. We see that Mona has working parents who take her to spend the day with Nana while they're at their jobs, which is something a lot of Millennials onwards can relate to. Boomers would grumble and say this is a 'bad' thing, but a lot of us working-class kids have happy memories and enjoyed these days quite a lot. The experience of being very small and having a routine of hanging out with your grandparents during the day is one of those small, barely discussed shared experiences of our generations and here it is, communicated with love and joy.

THANK YOU Sheryl! There are so many issues with AI (besides the fact in capitalism it is owned by capital) including predictive policing and military use etc but you focusing on art here is so so important. WE NEED ART TO STAY HUMAN ALL CAPS! And if this tech lures us into believing we can "outsource" this important activity of reflection, contemplation, silence even, working through stuff WHICH TAKES TIME, if AI tech convinces people it is so awesome and cool and why not .... BOOM: frankly? It is over!

My name is Tom, and just recently I read Mr. Weinrib's memoirs. I passovered the chapter where he described how his parents survived the Holocaust; but I especially like the part where he was kicked out of Rush in their early days and then missed a performance by Jimi Hendrix. My late older brother, and his Les Paul guitar, opened for Jimi Hendrix, on the first night of Passover, 1970, at the L.A. Forum where Rush played their last show 45 years later. He was a guitarist for The Buddy Miles Band at the time. They had a great live version of Neil Young's "Down By The River". My brother died of cancer a few years ago. I wondered if Mr. Weinrib, speaking of great Jewish bass players, ever encountered one who went by the name 'Harvey Brooks' (Harvey Goldstein). Harvey was the bass player on The Doors' "Touch Me". "I'm gonna love you 'til the heavens stop the rain. I'm gonna love you 'til the stars fall from the sky for you and I." It was at my brother's deathbed that I learned what happened to Harvey. He's still alive and he made aliyah to Jerusalem.

The reason video game adaptations are harder, and the fans are more judgmental, than comic books or books is actually simple. With any other type of adaptations, the fan is just an observer. With video games, the player is involved in what's going on. They are taking part in the narrative of the game, not just observing the narrative.
