  • Noel Gallagher has penned some of the best-known rock songs of the last two decades - and although he doesn't mind playing Oasis classics like Don't Look Back In Anger, the straight-shooting songwriter isn't resting on his laurels. He joins Shad not only to talk about his latest album "Chasing Yesterday", but also to offer his famously unvarnished opinion on the state of music today.

    q is a magazine show that’s unpredictable in the best sense - proud to be “a wild mix of culture by way of Canada” as described by the New York Times. The Globe & Mail noted the show’s “raging popularity across a variety of platforms -- podcasts, television, websites, satellite radio, terrestrial radio, and occasional live remote broadcasts."

      @@shredder9536 Hey Shredder, I'm not sure what you mean exactly. Are you saying that black people aren't usually sensible or American people/DJ's aren't. My only problem is with young black & white guys that try to talk like they are from the US & act like gangster rappers, where they do the stupid hand gestures, like they "is born in the Ghetto". If you get what I mean. I don't have a racist bone in my body, I just take people as I find them. They can be black/brown or green with red spots, if I like them, I like them & if I don't then I just give them a swerve. I might have totally misunderstood your comment. But I do agree that the interviewer was great with NG & got a lot more out him than some of our DJ's, like the golden one, Is Oasis getting back together again. I think one day when someone asks again, he's going to chin them. I can speak from experience as I'm a Manchester Lass, not from the mean streets of Burnage, we have similar areas in the north side too. Anyway good to hear from you. I'll let you get back to your tunes. 🙃

      ***** yes, and people should just date their own race and have babies with their own race....and women should stay at home with the baby....and no one should be able to immigrate to find a new life...purism is ridiculous. some of the best versions of songs have been acoustics of the original, rearrangements or covers. noel admits liam has a wonderful voice but noel also WROTE THOSE SONGS so he has just as much write to sing them as liam, if not MORE.

    I just fkn love this interview, watched it at least 10 x now. When he’s talking about the fans not knowing what they want until you give it to them, was just spot on. And the advice to young bands, kinda ties in to the quote “ build it and they will come” It’s simple but profound. It’s so easy to over complicate things. Just do what you love and do it great, and everything else will just fall into place. That’s what I got anyway :) cheers Noel 👍

    Chasing Yesterday: ON REPEAT and I can't stop listening to it, in it's entirety, back-to-back, countless times. I can't recall where I've felt compelled to do this with any other artist as of late. The Dying of the Light is a masterpiece of song-writing although the riff does remind me of the Verve's, Weeping Willow, just a coincidence I'm sure, but the Flying Birds is without a doubt the best incantation of backing musicians he's ever assembled and let's not forget to mention, Johnny Marr's contribution, he's really icing on this glorious cake. Hands down, Best LP of 2015. To add, the project was largely a DIY venture, risky but well-calculated. Certainly his creative instincts paid off here, goes to show it's always best to listen to your own inner-voice, always trust in your vision.

      That's a great album Sound of Summer the first oasis album I knew was SOTSOG (2000) and that's one of the greatest to me as well, in general I like all the next oasis albums, I thought I prefered just the songs where Liam sang and that's he was the most important member of the band, but when oasis broke up I followed both careers, I even thought that was that bad cause we would have more albums, more music but it's not about the amount, even when someone can play the guitar songs from Noel, you won't never find a music and lyiric writer like Noel and that just leave the great voice of Liam empty, I like a lot beady eye and I prefer that project over Noel's, BE will never be compared to oasis, BE is just another good band, oasis made a Legend, the great genius of Noel feels boring to me without Liam's voice and presence, they need each other. Things are very uncertain now, Liam prefered his expensive clothies instead of music, BE it's over, I think they don't talk each other since 2009 according to the official story, I think there's a possibility that they get together when they get older, maybe just for the money and just to play their old hits, I hope to be wrong, there's no another band like oasis, you can listen metal, electro, folk for example and find at least 2 similar bands, in the case of oasis you can't find no one who plays like them ironaclly not even their personal projects, they can't reach that level separated, I can hear all the time their old stuff but it will be greater to hear new tunes.

    I've watched a lot of long form interviews with Noel Gallagher...but this is one of the absolute best. Most in part due to Shad giving Noel plenty of room. Showing the upmost respect and sincere interest; Shad asked thoughtful, considered, and supremely intelligent questions, which led to great tangents from Noel (always an enjoyable journey, that).
    Very much the same questions I'd imagine I would ask Noel, if provided that incredible opportunity. Cheers Shad!

    I have to disagree with some of the stuff he says at the end though. The problem with everyone having internet and ability to record their music at home and upload it is that the internet now is saturated with a lot of shit music and most people can't be bothered to sift through 1000 turds to find 1 diamond so the diamond gets lost in the shit. I mean don't get me wrong, it's good people are being creative and putting their work out there but it's much more difficult these days because it's totally saturated now, then add in the fact nobody wants to pay for music anymore. I've heard some absolute gold on the internet, even today i heard a total gem of a band and couldn't believe how little followers they had, far better than bands i've heard who have popularity. Again, they're probably a diamond lost in the shite.

    • @sydandtaytum
      @sydandtaytum Před 8 lety +3

      well when you find a diamond then you should share it with your friends-- make them a mix 'tape', send it to them in an email, or give them a jump drive full of music you love- post the bands' video on all of your social media....like their page on facebook, etc.....look up their tour schedule and make sure you are alerted if they come to a town near you. the great thing about the internet is that it democratizes...it used to be that record companies chose what you could listen to, and what bands got heard--- and plenty of record companies are shithead corporate machines...you dont want to go back to those dark days.

      Playing your music live has to be the most important thing. Getting people up and moving or breaking their hearts or blissing them out or whatever. You're right when you say that the thing with most online music is that its shyte but people can fake it online. They get the beats right and the artwork looks cool and contemporary but I bet most of its not being live and even if it is I bet it doesn't really move people. Get there, take it to the live crowd

    One thing I will say about Noel Gallagher. His solo work is good but not much to shout about but he gives some of the best interviews. Noels awareness of the changes within the music industry is spot on and its not coming from a guy on a midlife crisis but a guy who would openly admit that the digital streaming system to which a new generation of music lovers are accustomed, he doesn't fit in, nor does he need to.

      The albums are good but some of the tracks left off as bonus tracks and b sides are the best stuff he's put out solo (much like Oasis b sides). Have you heard Alone on the Rope, Let the Lord shine a light on me, A simple game of genius or Do the damage? Better than the majority of 00s Oasis stuff

    I just had a thought, I recall seeing something on Facebook a while back, about noel and Richard doing an album together, pretty sure it was joking, but if they ever were to do an album together, they should call themselves "Bittersweet Oasis", it perfectly both of their previous bands history's, and themselves, and the album would definitely be an oasis from current mainstream music

      Yeah,I like Nick Drake, his song Riverman,is a great track,I think it might be from his Five Leaves Left album,Bryter Layter and Pink Moon are good albums, great acoustic guitarist, and good lyrics, some are pretty downbeat,he suffered depression,and committed suicide in the early seventies. He's well acknowledged in the music world.

    to be perfectly fair here... the interviewer comes up with some great questions.... Noel feeds off them well. great watch this. interviewers can often spoil a good interview... not this time...

    Noel is a legend, but lets have it right- Oasis weren't on an Indie label- Creation had full backing from Sony from well before the day they signed Oasis...

    • @SiriusTexra
      @SiriusTexra Před 9 lety

      Kevin McEwan Because Creation got completely dumped into the pits of brankruptcy after MBV and others.
      Oasis was still a gamble at the time, it's not like anyone was made of money at that point or knew what would happen in the future. Oasis was their biggest act by an absolutely massive gulf. You talk like Creation was anything but the most indie of indie music at the time. Refresh your memory with wikipedia as to all those major top selling bands they had. Oasis were a major label band that debut'd on an indie label. Done.

    • @KevToeRag
      @KevToeRag Před 9 lety +1

      By the time Oasis signed for Creation they had major label backing... its as simple as that... Sorry if that shatters your illusion!
