Bert Kreisher is the master of the LS
We'll try to keep our shirts on.
He is the machine😂
One bear, one LS.
I was gonna say, if the shirt comes off ill lose it.
That’s an awesome comment!!
great info... I believe a greater volume pump would be a improvement over stock... AFM delete and a slightly improved cam would make a very dependable runner...
If you're going that deep, remove the AFM lifters and solenoid cover, change the oil pump to a standard one and never worry about it again. The internals on the LS swap over pretty easy. Would also be a good time to put in a non AFM cam. Surprisingly easy to rebuild one of these engines
Agree 100% just did that about a month ago to my 07 avalanche with a 108k miles. No more Christmas lights or “ tic tic tic” noises { lifters failing)
You just repeated everything he said lol
@@MagicJack999 Like he didn't bother watch the video
@@MagicJack999 He said best to keep the high volume oil pump.
GM has been trying the AFM/DOD games since 1981 in the Cadillac L62 "V8-6-4" and has been a failure. It should be a recall.
If you’re in Metro Atlanta area, for same price or less than the cost of a Range module.. get a base tune.
✅More power
✅Raised speed governor
✅Quicker trans shifts
✅Less pedal lag for DBW
✅Disable V4 mode on AFM engines highly recommended with no loss in mpg.
✅Adjust for bigger tires & or gear change
GM 99 to 2015 with 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 & 6.2 great value for $150.

You Answered all my questions in one video thanks man!!
Thank you sir for very informative vedeo i learned a lot now i can do it my own.thank you very much.
Nice video. Been reading a bit that some guys who have the oil pan off are running a threaded plug of some type to block oil flow up to the old valley pan. Doesn't make sense to me, as the oil pressure sending unit is fed off of that too. Anything on this?
Good Video! I have a 2007 tahoe with 180,000miles, I installed the AFM range disabler and replaced the updated valve cover back when I bought the tahoe, close to 8 years ago! The last six months ive noticed higher than usual oil consumption and a strong vacuum from the oil fill cap when car is running. Local shop did a quick check on the pcv valve and completed a smoke test for leaks all good there. They even checked the compression on the cylinders and also ok, there's no check engine codes, no white smoke from the tailpipe and no other noise that would indicate failing lifters. They shop said oil rings are the culprit for the oil consumption. My question for you guys is do you agree with the diagnostic and what is your recommendation moving forward, make repairs now or is there something else that could be done before they open her up?
What about removing the safety relief valve and adding a plug in the oil pan?
Awesome vids all the info I needed in one video
After this operation will the patient still need 8 quarts oil?
Okay so I have an 09 LH 6 even though I don't have to change the oil pump do I still have to do anything about the oil relief in the pan? Or do I just leave that alone?
Tap and thread the oil towers in the valley with 3/8-16 ( only with engine completely apart)
I have a 07 3.9 impala and I installed a 09 3.9 motor so basically I deleted the afm right and I also put the computer out the 09 in there so what else will I have to do because with me having a different motor I already have the stuff that I would have to change on the 07 motor
If I use the kit with the plugs I noticed you guys don't say anything about what valley cover to use? Do you take apart the original and remove the dod stuff attached to it or you have to do the non dod valley pan anyways?
I have a 5.3 and got a plug in afm disabler, can I still use 0-20 oil or would I need to upgrade to 5-30? Vehicle barely has 50k miles
I got a 2010 Silverado.
Never had 1 issue up till this week and -20 reg air temp. Now I'm getting the p3400 code which is this. Can cold mess with dod and afm?
I have no tic no tap it did fall on its face and miss. A few times. Would cold mess with it at all? 141k never ever missed a beat. Up to literally now
I want to delete dod only and not the VVT so mechanically do I have to replace the Cam shaft and the lifters ?
If I leave dod connector unplugged would the engine work normally with the dod lifters there ?
I bought an edge pro Ht2 programmer and disabled the afm. I have an "10" sierra 1500 with 5.3, it also burns oil, and used to eat sparkplugs before I disabled the afm. Will it continue to still eat sparkplugs, and burn oil? I'm looking into the delete kit and found a mechanic to do it. I'm at 120,000, does it sound like anything else should be looked at before pulling the trigger? Ps I just bought the truck🤦
I have a 2005 envoy Denali I think my DOD was disconnected from the factory I have the valley cover but it's not plugged in so do I have the dod lifters probably in there?
Does the oil bypass in the pan have to be plugged?
I'm putting a 5.3 ls out of a chevy Silverado 2010 with 6l80 transmission also it's going in a 1997 s10 pickup single cab can I use the stock oilpan from the Silverado without having to cut my s10 or do I need to change the oilpan if so which one do I need I really need your help
Dos the kit fit for a Lh6 2007 denali envoy
What is the part number for a stock replacement cam for my 08 5.3. An where can you get it. Thanks
Great video! Thanks for the info
Where can I find price for a delete kit with VLOM,lifters, cam and oil pressure relief valve?
I put (non dod ket) on my 2015 tahoe, and I deactivate dod program, but I get P0011 camshaft position!! what is the wrong for that??
Thanks.
Any complete delete kits for 2021 5.3l?
So what years for trucks does this fit?
With the l99 engine from a 2010 camaro do I have to plug the valve in the oil pan?
Do all LS motors have dod from factory ?
Do you guys have 2007 caddlic escalade 6.2 kits i want to do the lifters and the cam i just want the best thing for my caddlic 6.2 it has some miles now im around 190k and I just want to refresh everything in it
I want to purchase a lifter and camshaft kit for my 2017 Chevy Silverado . Do you know any website with great review and products to go away from AFM DOD delete.
I need help on the ls 5.3 dod delete
Pour in marvels mystery oil or sea foam in your crankcase but not both at the same time be sure to read the instructions ....your problem is sticky engine deposits that keeps the lifter cup in a stuck down position leaving clearance for the push rod to rattle around and then tap when the clearance is taken up
Couldn't you do the same thing with transmission fluid?
Quick question this might be a little bit off topic but what do you think about getting a range for a 2020 suburban to get rid of the V 4 mode
Yes it will work until you decide to trade truck in lol
I did a dod delete I chang the cam and lifters still ticking and low oil level
I did a DOD delete and plugged the holes and used a flat-type manifold cover. My question is what do I do with the electrical connector that plugged into the DOD factory manifold. I have a 2009 Pontiac g8gt. Thanks
What did you end up doing
i had a tuner deleted the afm. do you have a intake plate that covers the holes? can i leave them alone? l76 engine
I have a 2011 Sierra and truck is just sluggish with the afm when it kicks into v4 mode .. doesn’t tick much at all unless it’s super cold out .. it has 170k on it now .. would it be hurting something or potentially end up hurting something if I just do the plug in afm dod DISABLER? Or would I essentially be pissing in the wind ??
Along with the tune of course
I have a 2007 Impala 3.9, the lifters with the springs failed. For replacement I got the regular lifters along with the full gasket kit and the lifter retainers. Can I use the Camshalf that is already in the engine? and do I have to have something to block off the oil?
We do not have any information on those, and not aware of any replacement camshafts you could use. If the camshaft is damaged by the lifters when they failed, you will need to replace the camshaft (would be best to remove and inspect anyway).
I have a question and hopefully I can get a solid answer. I have a range dod disabler and a non afm valley installed but still running the dod lifters and cam. Blocking the oil tunnels going to cause problems with the engine or build up pressure and activate the lifters. Thanks in advance.
Did you ever find a solid answer here. I just installed Pulsar LT on 21 Silverado with the 5.3 w/DFM. Have heard it could impact VLOV since the valves would never collapse (always V8). So I was wondering similar to your question.
I had to find out the hard way, it will not work had to do the full delete and send my ECM off to be programmed for a delete.
I am replacing an entire engine and want to delete this. Can I get a non afm engine ?
I got a question can I use the cams and lifters from an o4 avalanche has lm7 heads to do a afm delete
Yes, but you will also have to do a VVT delete if yours has it. Also, you'll need to use a 4X 3-bolt timing gear: sdparts.com/i-20089467
After doing a sod/afm delete kit, will a plug in tuner work to keep it in V8 mode?
yes but it will be cheaper to reprogram the computer
Thanks for the info
I want reliabilitt. Increase in horsepower qould be bice too. Not looking for noise either
do i have to do anything with afm if i get a cold air intake? i already have a range disable device
A cold air intake should not affect AFM at all.
Great info...thanks.
I have a 2017 Silverado with the 6.2, I bought a Texas Speed DOD Delete kit with the stock non DOD camshaft and GM performance ls7 lifters. Am i ok to use the stock pushrod length(7.850") if everything else is stock or do i need to buy the tool and check the length?
Also is anything else needed to be done to the VLOM cover if youre using the 8 DOD plugs?
Best thing you can do is call them and tell them what you bought and want to do. They sent me a fully itemized quote with everything I would need. For a stage 2 cam they included 7.850 pushrods
If you’re in the metro Atlanta area I disable this feature for $150 up to 2016 models.
2017 & 2018 add $100.
Less pedal lag, raised speed limiter and more power included at no additional charge.
Lt1swap.com does it for 50$ with shipping included
Max Germain I have the lifter noise - with dod delete will that fix issue
If I do the plugs and non dod valley cover do I need to change lifters if I'm installing performance cam
Hi Hector, yes you need to replace the lifters.
What do you need to do with the electronics, if anything, when you do the mechanical delete? I have a 2011 1500 with a 5.3.
Using software like HP Tuners, you need to shut off any of the DOD/AFM tables and codes.
If you replace the valley cover to a non dod do you just leave the connector disconnected? and it won’t throw a check engine light ?
Leave the connector disconnected, you need to have it tuned out.
My corvette c7 was tuned in germany, they made a software Dod delete without any hardware modifications.
What are these hardware modifications for if you can turn the activation of in the software ?
Hardware modification removes the failure prone dod lifters. Most of this is usually done with an aftermarket camshaft installation or after they have already failed.
literlly every question was answered in this video
Do i have to plug the pressure release valve in the oil pan ?
No you do not
What’s the difference between the ones you mentioned and the Gen V LTs? Same system, different results? Thanks. Great info.
The LS DOD kit does not include a camshaft, the Gen V LT kit is similar in many ways, but you'll have different fasteners (there's one little head bolt that's very different), and it comes with a non DOD camshaft.

Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Thanks so much for the quick response! Great to know. I’ll give it a look.
I have a low pressure on a 2007 tahoe 4.3 i already change the sensor the oil pump and the tube and gaskets at the oil pan
Some one told me this part may be the problem do you know if this part cause low oil pressure???
I think u mean 4.8. How low is the pressure?
I will be deleting the DOD and VVT what kind of timing set should I go with? Do you offer the timing set? I have a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT. I also want a 3 bolt cam possibly stage 1 close to stock so I won’t have to change the pushrods or springs.
A single roller for GEN4 LS with 4pole cam sensor and 58X crank sensor or just the GM 4pole 3 bolt gear. I'm using the Rollmaster CS1190, it's a high quality aftermarket timing set.
I have a 06 trailblazer LS with the 5.3 and need to do the delete, if I do the stock style cam will it have to be tuned for it?
Yes, you'll need to have it tuned to shut off the DOD tables if you use the stock style non-dod cam.
Hey does it matter which way you put the non dod lifters in as far as oil hole position
Orientation doesn't matter in that aspect as long as they seat in the lifter bucket and the roller tip rolls w/ the cam.
After I deleted the DOD system what's next I have to tune it?
Yes, you would need to reprogram the pcm.
I have just purchased a 2022 Chev. Silverado. What do I need to do to eliminate the AFM system on this truck? What's it gonna cost? It has low milage. 17,000. The other thing is, will it mess with my warranty?
Yes it will void your warranty.
Some people use a plug in obdii device to keep it from triggering the dynamic fuel management.
For the 6.2L delete kits:
sdparts.com/i-24529275
For the 5.3L delete kits:
sdparts.com/i-24529276
You will need a pcm tune as well.
With the "bullet" pressed in plugs, can you reuse the dod valley cover, or do you still need a non dod cover?
You can reuse the dod cover. It's a nice cost effective way of disabling the dod.
Can I get the plugs from SDP?
Do i have to do a dod delete on my 04 chevey 5.3ls Lt 2 wheel drive tahoe
pre-afm
I have a che ticket suburban 2010 5.3 with a VVT sprocket, I changed the selenoid cover for a flat one / it does not have an AFM deactivation sensor / and now 4 cylinders do not work / what can I do?
Did you replace the DOD lifters with non-dod lifters?
Have you tuned the vehicle yet? Removing the DOD hardware requires a tune.
What is the kit number I tried to find it on your website and was unsuccessful?
Check the video description for links!
If I want about 380 hp on my 09 5.3 Silverado, asides from cam, what else would I need to change?
Intake
Ok I would really appreciate some input, so I bought a truck for 7 grand and it had a dod delete well it has a misfire light going off check engine light is flashing 2007 Tahoe so come to find out he did the non dod lifters and blocked the towers but didn’t do the camshaft, so what I wanna know is do I just need a tune or do I need to do a camshaft, and it ha low oil pressure like 15 psi at idle 40 when driving on road so I did the oil pick up tube gasket and that didn’t help so do I need an oil pump or do I have low oil pressure cause the camshaft wasn’t replaced
Ok, it sounds like you need the non-dod cam AND and tune. When you dig in for the cam swap, to also replace the cam retainer plate to see if that helps oil pressure. The little o-ring on the retainer can get pretty flat, bleeding oil pressure off.
@@Sdpartscenter so the dumbass that tried to do the delete did not do any research and did not block the oil valley towers he said it had a new valley in there well it was new but it was a AFM valley so I bought the valley cover for the delete and that fixed my oil pressure issue 45 psi at cold start , 37 psi and idle after 30 min 60 psi maybe 65 while it shifts gears at higher RPMs , so that is fixed but now my question is this , I need a camshaft trying to order parts my truck is an 2007 but door sticker says 03-06 so 07 they switched to one bolt camshaft so does mine have a 3 bolt cam ?
Ok so I have a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, but door sticker says 03-06 so do i have a 3 bolt cam or one bolt ? ?
If you have AFM/DOD it will be a 1 bolt. Non AFM/DOD aftermarket cams are 3 bolt. You'll need a cam gear or timing set that matches your engine.
Hey Scoggin, i just done a DOD/AFM delete on my 2007 Suburban 5.3... Its a Texas Speed kit that comes with everything "Cam,lifters, valley cap etc" after startup i have smoke "doesn't smell like oil or anything" and does have power starts right up and runs so smooth @ idle but under throttle it acts like its running on 4 cylinders instead of 8. Will I need my suburban tuned to get rid of this issues or is the issues somewhere else?
Hi Doug, yes you need to get the DOD parameters tuned out and the driving issues should go away.
If it's a steady stream of smoke, that'd be no good and an indicator of other issues. If it's a puff of smoke on startup it could just be burning off deposits and fluids that got into the intake or cylinder during the work. Would be a good idea to keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't worsen.
@@Sdpartscenter at idle it doesn’t smoke only when I give it fuel and it doesn’t smell like oil or fuel for that matter maybe half burnt fuel, going to get it tuned shortly and will update once reinstalled and running
if you do the DOD delete kit, do you have to flash the PCM to erase the management system
You will need a tune to disable the AFM functions, yes.
If im puting a stage 2 camm
Is it recommended to change the timing chain as well?
Not required, but many do it as preventative maintenance.
How does this work.with SMOG an will it pass Smog... especially in California
With just the oem non afm cam it probably would have passed smog, but now an AFM delete will not pass in California where they check for any PCM tuning/calibration changes.
We do however offer an AFM repair package for smog controlled areas:
sdparts.com/search.html?q=afm+repair
Which lifter guides can i use? Will gen 3 guides work?
Yes, any non DOD LS lifter guide.
If you’re in the Atlanta area. I disable the dod feature Monday thru Friday.
Do you dino or work through hp tuners? I Olán on deleting dod and getting a better cam
Do you need to deactivate this function in the software ? What about the injection and ignition cut of?
Yes, this requires additional tuning.
Do I have to use the plugs or can I just use the aftermarket valley cover
You can use the aftermarket valley cover.
I’m going to do this on my g8 with the l76, and I’ve been looking into the Btr stage 2, can I use stock pushrods or do I need to install different ones
Stock pushrods are good , I get them changed when using dual springs only
Cual es el precio del kit para quitar el AFM de una silverado 4.3 2016 ??
sdparts.com/i-24504716
If I’m deleting dod and swapping cam does that mean I should get new heads and ect.. have 2011 5.3 gmc
Depends on who you're telling you NEED those parts for :)
But for you, you don't necessarily have to run aftermarket heads if you're doing just the AFM delete cam or even some of the other mild cams on the market. If you check out our 5.3L cam shootout, you can get some pretty solid gains with some of our popular cam grinds with stock heads. Heads do of course help, it's just up to what you have planned on the build.
czcams.com/video/rzzGidbDhvY/video.html
So I don't have to change the oil pump , but is it recommended to plug the pressure relief valve in the oil pan?
It is not required but you can still do it if you decide to do so.
Cool. I was just wondering if it was a requirement or not. Some people say do it because the oil splash on the lower end will cause you to burn unnecessary oil . Good to know thank you.
I am wondering how to find someone to tune the computer after the rebuild is finished
There are tuners everywhere that can shut off the AFM tables. Some even will let you mail the pcm in and bench-top tune it for you.
Nice vids. I'm from the philippines. I already have disabled the AFM via HP Tuner. I started scanning my computer and it starting to trow codes like P3401, P3425, P3441, P3449 and P3400. Is this normal?
Only in the Philippines. The first three codes are related to the poor fuel for your area. The other codes are for your ECM being mad you are being passed by mopeds and dirt bikes. GM recommends you buy a Toyota deisel truck.
@@SURVEYSEZ bro i cant stop laughing 😂
Is this the same kit for the l83 engine?
No it's not - it's a little more in depth for an L83. Give us a call and we can get you a kit going.
On a budget , could you leave the stock dod lifters and cam, put in the block plugs to keep oil from collapsing them and get a tune that dissables dod? Would that work?
Sorry, no that would not be a solution. You could tune it to keep the lifters from activating dod, but the mechanical side is all or none.
On a 05 5.3 lh6 engine I have to change the camshaft, or I can leave the same
You have to change it. If your truck has AFM the cam shaft is AFM specific to the bearings and such. If you don’t put a standard cam in there after you delete AFM the bearing clearances will be wrong and you’ll lose cylinder pressure.
Very helpful
I understand this video was 4 yrs ago but I have an issue today, changed everything on the dod delete kit stock cam, lifters, gaskets, 4.8 valley cover on a 08 1500 and for some reason I keeps throwing codes for the 1,4,6,7 solenoids and is preventing those same injections from working. I bought the little box off the internet & the issue remains
You have to get the vehicle tuned when performing the DOD delete. The little "Range extender" dongles do not work.
My local tune shop wants 1000 (cdn) to tune out dod if I replace the cam/lifters in my 2017 Sierra. They want 450 just to turn it off. Why the significant increase in price?
Why cant you just replace the afm lifters with normal roller lifters, leave the oe dod cam, and simply turn off the system?
Because the compression from the oil will cause issues(I have absolutely no idea what im talking about)
Have a question. I have a 2007 avalanche with the AFM system and I never had anything done to it but one day it just started staying in v8 mode at all times and all speeds it never goes back into v4 mode what could cause this? I’ve never used a range device and it also doesn’t tick or anything I just find it weird.. thanks in advance
I'm wondering if the chip that powers the change went bad. During this time of chip shortages, GM is selling some trucks with no DFM due to a chip shortage. These engines are coming out of the factory like they should---V-8 mode only.
Step on it see how fast it goes now
He states he has an 2007 vehicle. Chip shortages was not an issue back then.
Purchased this recently truck throws wild codes i assume it will go away after tuning? Was afm dod now with this kit and camshaft H.O
Yes, will go away after proper tuning.
Too bad GMC didn't just step up and fix the problem for us when it was under warranty and complained out the lifter noise.
Totally agree. Twice I got oh its a bad spark plug. Is all that does is put off the code so it runs good for another 30K. The 2nd time they also said the put in a new valley cover. Yeah OK. :(
I don’t understand why they keep rolling the dice with this dod shit. It’s gonna end up being the end of gm. Ford is gonna run off and leave them
Question will ecm need to be tuned or flashed to disable dod?
Absolutely. IF you live in a place like California you'll have to do a repair kit and not a delete because of how strict they are about pcm tuning.
So I've done my share of these lifter replacements and one common issue that was not mentioned is the lifter guides and what happens to the lifter as the guide wears out .but thats not my question .So when the ECM can no longer control the DOD it puts the vehicle in limp mode .You didn't state anything about this .How do you get around this issue?
Following, just did DOD delete and now my fuel trims won’t happen. O2’s both read.05 -0, can’t find any vacuum leaks.only codes are for vlom and my trims are maxed at 25%
Hey I also want to mention that I have found that is causing these lifters to stick is the VLOM and that is simply the bolts lose their torque and become lose. Causing oil pressure to drop. So the next time anyone starts to tear down an engine I bet you can turn the first 4 bolts in the vlom by hand. At least I have.
Where can I get this done? Who can generally do it? How much does it cost?
2600$ labor and 1200$ in parts. It can be done at your local engine performance shop
What are the chances that the steel taps would make the valley crack over time? I see the concept but the other valley cover seems better.
We haven't seen this occur and don't see how it would.
If I go with a stock replacement, would I need a tune? Or could I use a handheld tuner and just deactivate the AFM?
If you put it all back together with all the dod lifters and dod cam, you could just use a handheld, that tends to prolong the life of the dod lifters for some.
If you put in a stock-style non-AFM cam with regular non-AFM lifters, you'll need a tune.
@@Sdpartscenter awesome, Thank you!
