- In the dry season small streams in the foothills of the Andes are reduced to puddles, fish survive here holding on to wait for the rainy season. Check out this video showing Corydoras melanotaenia, Apistogramma macmasteri, Bujurquina mariae, Aequidens metae, Astyanax bimaculatus, Pyrrhulina lugubris, Steindachneria argentea, Hemigrammus sp., Apeirodon orinocensis, and Parodon apolinari in nature.

Must watch channel for every aquarium lovers. Tks for the amazing work
Thank you very much!
This has become one of my favorite channels.
Thanks!
same here
Thank you both!
This is amazing, it's really inspiring and humbling as a hobbyist to see the fish in their natural habitat.
thank you.
This Chanel is worth a ton of gold. I just recently discovered it.
Thank you!
Sweet
Wow! There's a lot packed into this short video. It's unusual to see Parodon in their natural habitat and grazing on such large cobbles, but to learn that a species of Corydoras is surviving in seasonal pools at 30˚C, along with apistos is really surprising. Thank you, Oliver, you never fail to educate me.
Cories are quite resilient so i'm not quite surprised..
thank you. Also i see A.apolinari always in low numbers on bedrock shelves, but here the river is full in low season. The Pareidon orinocensis are more rare, but mix right in. This is downstream of the Chaetostoma joropo habitats, where the main river is also warmer.
Very interesting
Very nice 👍
simply incredible
Really great video
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing!
Awesome video. So cool to see such common aquarium fish. In something the size of an aquarium 😅
Thanks for watching!
Awesome information!
Thanks for watching!
@@belowwater thanks for posting great stuff!
What an amazing look into some of our favorite fishies natural home. Thanks for sharing this!
thank you! More coming soon.
Finally a vid
Wow thank you so much. Its so useful as someone trying to care fr fish, to see them in their natural habitat. We love corys and its incredible the amount of information you're getting across.
You're right this is such a 'tank-like" micro habitat thanks!
thank you, yes, this is pretty much aquarium sized. That does not happen often in nature
Wow what a nice puddle! Beautiful corys 😍
Thank you! 😊
i was in peru in 1986 came across a puddle 3 feet by less then 2 feet 2-3 inches deep just leaves took by aquarium net scooped up assorted size apistogramma agassizii and candiru ,the guides laugh at those.
excellent, c melanotaena corydoras look brilliant
Yes, amazing how nice they look in nature, of the common Corydoras this is an often overlooked species.
😊👍
Great work. Love your channel.
Thank you very much!
Incredible footage, I would watch this for hours. More please, I am subbed now..
Good job. Thanks!
Thank you
wow awesome! thanks for sharing!
thank you.
These are some insane footages. Absolutely amazing, you directly want to set up an Biotop scape.
Pls more of that.
that is the plan, over Christmas we will make some videos from Asia also.
Cool video. 👍
Thanks for the visit
interessant zusehen das doch einige unterschiedliche arten zusammen harmonieren...😉👍👍👍
Ja, in vielen Biotopen geht das ganz gut, wenn man die Crenicichla und Hoplias rausnehmen würde!
as a huge corydora fan those guys are so cute. why have i never seen those before?
not sure, that species is exported frequently, but I think not bred by fish farms at all, they do basically C.paleatus, aeneus, sterbai and panda, that is it! Expert breeders focus on the rare and expensive ones.
More corydoras footage please 🥰
Check the description for links, we have many other Corydoras videos.
@@belowwater im curious how pygmy corydoras strive in the wild
@@justincj1989 usually you see them mixed in with tetras that look similar, then school in very shallow water. I have some video of it, but not enough to show it well. We will have to see if we can put something together.
One more question, corydoras axelrodi does also occur here right? And in the rainy season these streams have a strong current right
no, different creeks further to the southwest - yes, in rainy season the water will be deep and fast moving, maybe different fish are here then
Can you do a 1000 gallon update
yes, eventually, not much has changed, i have added Sartor respectus, and the Geophagus argyrostictus eventually got too old (they did breed in the big tank). The problem with the cichlids is that you have to feed a lot for them to have enough, but i don't want the other fish to get fat.
In the Amazon millions of fish get stuck in "aquarium sized" pools/puddles every dry season and die.
yes, certainly, when the fish get this crowded in remaining pools of water, a single week delay in the rainy season will cause millions of them to die.
Hello, are your books on sale now? If so, can you tell me where I can buy your books on your site, the link does not work Thank you!
The "Amazon Below Water" is available, just send me an email from Belowwater.com - the "Xingu Below Water" is due out soon.
Thanks😁
Are there any aquatic plants in these little streams?
not in the peak dry season - in the rainy season there will be tons of plants, i am certain.
Hello. May i ask what river these puddles where near?
it's a river, shown in the start of the video. In peak dry season the water runs off and evaporates in these small streams and fish get "stuck" in the deeper pools, eventually just puddles are left. With the start of the rainy season the small rivers start to run again.
tank you
Where is this puddle located?
it is not far from the town of Acacias, on the road south from Villavicencio
Can you share it with our FB community?
Thank you
Yes, of course, I am always happy when people share our videos!
what is the name of this cichlid at 3:13?
_Apistogramma macmasteri_
