  • I install an OEM/Factory Trailer Brake Controller into a 2022 RAM 1500 fifth gen truck. I show and explain how to easily install trailer brake controller, trailer brake module and bracket into your ram 1500. These OEM/Factory trailer brakes are probably the best performing trailer brake controller for these trucks and they work seamlessly. Highly recommend installing this controller in any RAM 1500

    I hope everyone is doing well! I have the pleasure of installing this OEM trailer brake controller in my father in laws brand new 2022 ram 1500 rebel. beautiful ram pick up truck! so when ordering the OEM trailer brake controller you will have to order the package which includes the module, module bracket, trailer brake controller and some hardware. follow along the video and you'll see that everything is pretty simple to install. the hardest and maybe scariest part is removing the center dash with your nice big screen. but take your time and be careful it should pop out.
    the nice thing about the oem trailer brake controller is everything is wired up and ready to go. the connectors are just sitting there ready to be plugged in making this a very easy job to do.
    I would also highly recommend this trailer brake controller from Mopar itself because it works so well with these trucks and will make your towing Experience much better.
    the final thing you will have to do is get this module programmed at the dealer for about 1/2 hour of time. so this is not the cheapest option but it is easily the best and simplest option when it comes with these trucks. it also has the bonus of looking like it belongs as it is truly an oem part on all these ram 1500 trucks!
    hope you guys find the video helpful!

    I wanted to THANK YOU!! I hardly ever take the time to right reviews or praise. However, your video totally deserves praise for it is spot on. You laid it out step by step exactly how every screw and every plug should be approched. I think it took no more than 2 hours and it's so much better then those after market junk controlers. Thanks again!

    I'm gonna be honest. I shouldn't have done this on the street outside of my house in the mid afternoon in July in Phoenix. That being said, I'm the guy that watched this video like 7 times before making the attempt. 2 hours later, my brake controller is installed on my RAM 1500, and I couldn't be happier. Ready to do some real towing. Liked and subscribed now. Thank you for making this video, saved me a ton of time and money! :)

    • @danielbarrett6026
      @danielbarrett6026 Před 5 měsíci

      @@fredlevine4155I bought the Curt when I was in a pinch and didn't have time to install an aftermarket controller. If I lose the Bluetooth connection (which happens occasionally) I can't use the manual override. I don't have to worry about theft just in case I forget to unplug it after use (which is a possibility). I like a lever vs using a phone screen to activate the manual override. Its one less cord in the way having the phone plugged in constantly. I still have it. I prefer a factory integrated controller better.

    Excellent video, except for the wiring mistake LOL. I bought a 2019 RAM brand new. No trailer brake controller installed. They were on back order, so I had to install an aftermarket controller. It works great! In my opinion, every RAM with a hitch receiver and 7-way plug should have a brake controller installed. It was ridiculous back in 2020 to buy a truck without one installed. RAM should have never let that happen.

    3 hours later and with a lot of frustration it's in! The wiring plug for the controller is NOT in the bundle of wires that contain the plugs for the module! Instead it is cleverly disguised in the bundle of wires on the center of the dash that you remove but that little tidbit is never mentioned. Secondly there may only be two screws that hold the section of the dash in that the controller goes and there are 2 clips on top AND 2 on the bottom.

    The only thing that sucks about these oem trailer brakes is that it try’s to make it work with abs leading to very low to no trailer breaks at lower speeds. 7-8 volts coming from break controller under 35mph even if you have gain set to 10 which it should be 9+ volts. Idk why ram decided to do that but it can cause you to be put out of service by DOT if you’re running commercial for having “bad trailer breaks”

Highway robbery, and they got it in crooked and the + brake stuck on, went to 10, then errored out. I HATE GOING TO DEALERS! Should have bought a programmer and tamper device and done it myself, except any recall flash would uninstall the brake controller software update.
