      What is this based on? Looking at the views on videos of both, it seems like though some of the Hummer videos were relative flops, some are exceeding over half a million to nearly a million views which are considerably more than any of the Stubby videos. I'd imagine comment count is similar.

      The 3.6 sees a ton of use and abuse. Since Its the base motor in the Tradesman and Promaster Van, many wind up in fleet service. Beat on mercilessly by drivers who don't own them, subjected to heavy loads and stop and go driving by delivery services like Amazon and USPS. Service windows stretched by bean counting fleet managers, and fed low grade oil fuel, Often overloaded and idled for hours by workers trying to keep warm in construction and utility work , they somehow manage.

    Great video again! This towing test was a tough one. I am not sure what the grade was but I am sure it was steep. The switch backs prevent you from carrying much momentum through the curves. Good job Stubby! I am curious how Stubby would have done with you selecting the gears rather than floor the accelerator and let the truck select a gear. I believe that this engine produces peak torque around 2,800 rpm. Would it be better for the truck to drive at a slower speed and select gears keeping the rpm between 2,800 and say 3,500 rpm? Just curious?

    As someone who as owned a couple of Jeeps, I have always thought Chrysler (stelantis) could do a much better job with gear mapping and when it should downshift. Especially if you are going uphill and have cruise control set. The other big thing I notice is, when you get off the gas and then go back to gas without touching the brakes, it is slow to respond to input of being back on the gas. My work around for both complaints is to put itnto sport mode, and it will downshift sooner so you don't loose as much speed going uphill, and throttle response is more like I would expect it to be. (no delay)

    People complain about midsize prices but at around $40k midsize trucks are typically more capable. For the same price, you could buy a midsize with 4-doors that's well equipped and better towing. Or you could buy a full size that's just a few years old. Tons of decently equipped 4-door Rams that're 2 or 3 years old with low mileage for under $40k.

    @khakiswag Před rokem +1

    I think the refusal to downshift was a programming strategy to keep temperatures under control. It was a limp mode with no indication to the driver it was in a limp mode. Modern vehicles can anticipate when overheating is inevitable. Andre said he could hear the cooling fan running and around the same time he also stated it was floored, not downshifting and not going over 30. The computer recognized it was commanding maximum engine cooling and temperatures were still rising. So it reduced engine power and locked the trans in, I’m guessing 2nd gear, to cool down. Not sure about Chrysler but in Ford and GM it cuts off fuel and spark to half the cylinders to use those cylinders to pump the heat out the engine through the exhaust. It works and won’t take long to bring temperatures down. However you would get a engine temperature and reduced engine power message. My guess is Chrysler is doing the same thing but not displaying a message.

    This trail is probably the most important test on the channel. But if the truck goes into overdrive while you're flooring it, you need to know when to manually downshift to save the engine and transmission. Trying to go uphill in overdrive at 2000rpm is a truck killer.

    Pentastar makes no torque down low, has to be over 4000rpm to make advertised 260ftlbs . Short stroke,small displacement N/A.

      Doesn't the pentastar have 90% of the torque available at 1800rpm? Or am I looking at the wrong graph

    • @michaelatkins9780
      @michaelatkins9780 Před rokem

      Yes the graph is correct. You ever drive one? It's never going to be near 1800 when working. I was clumsily referring to the tranny trying to keep the usable torque at 4000 thru 5500 but , past 5200 the torque drops off and hp goes up thru 6500ish.

      @@michaelatkins9780 I've driven a couple and they aren't much slower than my ram hemi and they feel a lot lighter with the front end the cars I've driven with the pentastar were actually quick as well but yes at 4500 does feel a bit sluggish but this video it's not the high revs it's the torque converter locking and it's not switching gears at low rpms which is for keeping trans temps stable

      I can see that if the sun is out as the small cab means you're a bit more directly exposed to the radiation. I'd personally probably not have AC on but have the fans a bit higher, however given they are filming they probably dont want background fan noise (or as mentioned with the wildfires, keep recirc on with AC to avoid smoke coming in).

    Pretty good for the little fella. That 3.6 is just so weak. Not unlike in the Gladiator when you did the Super Ike with it and a 3.6. Less than 5000 lbs is kinda ok, but in the Gladiator the diesel shines.
    How have your detailer/s scratched the lens of the gauges so bad already? For some reason that plastic is so soft it scratches really easy. I have had luck with a lightly dampened perfectly clean micro towel. Hope it helps.
