The Great Resignation is still here, stronger than ever. I recently gave up my six-figure salary, amazing benefits, and the safety net that I had from being a full-time employee at a large fortune 500 company.
The day I quit my job, I felt like a massive weight was finally lifted off my shoulders. I'm now freelancing and creating CZcams content full-time, making more money than ever, and I've honestly never been happier.
THE END OF AN ERA
So, why have 59 MILLION Americans made the switch to Freelancing? It comes down to freedom and opportunity, something bred deeply into the American consciousness.
Today, many companies don’t offer the kind of compensation, benefits, or retirement plans that attract workers anymore. Employees are easily replaceable, and competition for any job with a leadership title requires graduate degrees and decades of experience.
JOB FLEXIBILITY
The recent Upwork investor study found that “78% of skilled remote freelancers cite schedule flexibility as a key reason for freelancing and 73% cite location flexibility.”
In a typical work environment, you show up as per the schedule given to you by your company. This fills their needs, not your peak productive hours.
JOB COMMUTE TIMES
Commute times around the country can drastically vary. I've personally spent the majority of my life driving 30 minutes to and from work, wasting countless hours just to sit at a desk and do the same thing that I could easily do from the comfort of my home.
HIGHER-INCOME
The last compelling reason so many people are transitioning to freelance work is because of the opportunity to expand and grow their income, skills sets, and education as well.
I started freelancing in May of 2016, and I'm now one of the highest-earning freelancers on Upwork with over $700,000 earned.
In my previous full-time job, I was making $113k per year. If you break that down into an hourly rate, assuming I only worked 40 hours per week when I often worked well over that, then I was making around $55 per hour.
However, as a freelancer, I'm currently making $150 an hour providing the same services. That's the power of freelancing and controlling your own pay.
You don't want to miss out on the freedom, flexibility, and earning potential that freelancing has to offer you. This is the year that you can finally take control of your life and live the way that you have always wanted to. Because if you don't start controlling money, then it will control you.

Great points , This year is really going to be crazy , Greetings from Florida please i know this information might not be for everyone but anyone who is finding it difficult to trade / invest or willing to know its basic profitability should work with Helen Howard pratea she is an expert advisor who mentors me , i have profited a lot from following her guide and instructions
@@adamweah8037 Where you in the last tesla conference in Baltimore ? Where did you meet this lady
@@aliyahmerrit5402 No, i was not , i found her in a business Magazine where she was featured and i reached out to her afterwards she has since provided entry and exit on the securities i focus on . You can look her name up online if you care supervision i basically follow her trade pattern and havent regretted doing so
Working in pajamas is a big perk no one talks about
I'm a fan of it! 😎
How funny, right now I'm working in my pyjamas 😅
18 months ago I started working as a freelancer and it is amazing! I took my laptop and went to Europe for couple of weeks. I got to travel and work in the middle of the year exploring new places and enjoying life. And yes Josh you are totally right about the bigger hourly rate it just grows while you are improving your skills. I remember watching your videos back in 2020, before I started working as a freelancer, I can not thank you enough for sharing these amazing videos and pushing people to change their life and live their dream. Keep doing that, it must feel good to hear stories like these from all around the world.
Thanks Josh 🤗
Thanks so much for this comment, Kenan! It truly is such a great feeling to hear about success stories from freelancers all around the world. 😁
This is my goal. Great points in the video!
Thanks so much, Eric! 😀
Thanks Josh. Your videos had a great impact on me to switch to freelancing.
You're very welcome and I'm super happy to hear that! 😀
This video came up in my recommendations, and I can't thank the algorithm enough.
Great video
Thank you so much! 🙏
Hi Josh
I will like you to know that your videos have been truly been life-changing.
I'm always in awe at the level of your unrivaled mastery of how freelancing system works. I'm glad to let you know that I have been diligent in implementing your strategies. And beyond that, I'd be referencing those nuance concepts of yours in the book I'm writing-I hope I have your permission for this 😊
Thank you.
You're welcome!
You are inspirational
Glad you think so!
This is something that I've been considering for a long time now, thanks for the tips. Am definitely working towards working on my own schedule and working on projects that I really enjoy
You're very welcome! I worked towards this goal for years and it took so much work to get here. But it was all more than worth it. 😀
@@JoshBurnsTech I can imagine and also thanks for the fact that you always try to show how much work one has to put in, no quick fixes as there are no substitutes for HARDWORK just to quote another CZcamsr "Matt D'avella".
I know one day I will also be free off the 9-5 grind and work on my business. Keep up the great work @Josh 👏👏👏
@@stephenmboroto8327 Matt's content is some of the best on CZcams! Keep that mindset.
Does earning potential depend on country to country??
The goal is freedom and lifestyle 🥰. Thanks a bunch
Your upwork videos really help my freelancing journey alot😍
So happy to hear that, Dairo! The freedom of freelancing is truly amazing. 😀
Truly this is inspiring…Do you offer any discords or the possibility to be mentored by you?
Yep! Patreon.com/JoshBurnsTech
I feel envy to those who could quit their corporate jobs and be a freelancer.. Hope i could have guts to do this..Congrats Sir josh.. thanks for the motivation
Keep envisioning the goal every day and put in consistent work! I always kept my end goal in mind and made sure that my work ethic matched my ambitions. Thanks Rio!
Love and support from Pakistan Josh
Got first order on Upwork last week based on your tips for proposal writing.
Hoping for best in future
That’s so great to hear! Keep up the great work. 🚀
Hi Josh, thank you for useful content. I gained my success on Upwork because of you!
Could you please make a video about entering a talent cloud? I would really appreciate that as I have been trying for a while. Thank you, keep up the good work!
That's so great to hear, Mia! I'm a member of probably 50+ talent clouds and honestly the benefit is pretty minimum. I never really get job invites from the talent clouds.
@@JoshBurnsTech thanks for your reply. I just thought it would be useful.
Happy Birthday big bro !!! My friend just informed me about your special day because I'm not on IG, yep took a social media detox brake kind of thing, but yeah have an amazing day my friend and keep inspiring us too. And bro seriously I just closed 3 deals from seeing your cover letter video 😎💥🔥, YOU'RE THE BEST !!!!!!
Thanks so much bro! I noticed that you took a break and I think that’s awesome. You will have to let me know how you feel after it. That’s so awesome to hear man! Super glad that it helped you. Can’t wait to see your progress this year! You’re on a great path! 🔥💪
@@JoshBurnsTech Yeah definitely brother,, have you checked your IG? I had messaged you 10 days ago.
@@govindsharmaexplainers Nope, must have completely missed that. I'll check now!
@josh how do I get into project management please?
Hey! I don’t personally have any experience with project management. Maybe start by searching for high earning project managers on Upwork and study their profiles.
@@JoshBurnsTech You are freaking awesome. Thanks for the prompt reply. Just trying to concentrate on a skill and try build myself up.
Your videos are awesome and we learned a lot from you, thumbs up for you
I have question Josh, I can see on your profile that there are 33 jobs in progress at time of comment. Do you develop projects with teams now?
and if yes then what are tips to manage teams?
I also earned 100k+ on Upwork only but needs to expand freelance to business.
Looking forward
Thanks! Nope, I work solely by myself. Those 33 jobs are open contracts but are not always active. I have clients who simply reach out when they have an issue or new project. I also need to be more proactive in cleaning up my old jobs by requesting reviews. lol
@@JoshBurnsTech thanks for comment, any chances in near future to expand your freelance profile to bsuiness? if yes then don't forget to make videos for that
@@abdulrehmannazar9991 No current plans! The work that I do has high liability and I split my time between freelance work and CZcams content.
I live in a small country called Bangladesh. In my country the average Salary of a Software Enginners is less than $10k Annaully(only). And there is no insurance or any other facilities. I hate jobs but still, I'm looking for a good job because of my financial issue. :(
I do freelacing but not high paid. And I love passive incomes like you but I couldn't figure it out yet.
Stay positive and keep making progress every day! It will be more difficult for you, but don’t give up. 😁👍
Hey Josh! Did you also got a Claim Id by Dreamy Chylls ? 😅 😂
Hey! I did not. What song did you have this happen for?
@@JoshBurnsTech Journey's End. This channel (Dreamy Chylls) just uploaded the song yesterday (first result in CZcams when you search for: "dreamy chills journeys end") and looks like it is after making some id claims and getting the monetization (thru the CD Baby record label -- they get the revenue and send it to the supposedly "author" of the song to his dashboard in the CD Baby platform). So I guess I will have to dispute the claim 😂
Cool video, and lots of great points. I wish you would've brought up the downsides of free lancing. Many people may be unaware of how much harder you actually have to work to build your reputation and how hard you have to work to sustain that.
2:36 and I mention that often is most of my freelancing videos. Sustaining it actually has not been difficult for me. I rarely even add new work because of my long term clients. Anyway, that's a topic for a different video and I would recommend watching this one. czcams.com/video/oeAoC1pz7iY/video.html
@@JoshBurnsTech Well yeah that was one sentence. I was thinking more about going in depth into what it's like. It's not for everyone. If I could do it, I would.
@@agentx3 Freelancing definitely isn't for everyone, but again, that wasn't in the scope for this video. I could make a full length video covering the pros and cons of freelancing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
@@JoshBurnsTech Actually that would be very cool if you could do that. I've always wanted an in depth look into how people like you do it. I know it takes a lot, but man it would be so cool to see.
Josh, do you successfully compete with guys from India, Poland, Peru and many other countries? is it hard to do?
I rarely have to compete with anyone. I have long term clients and get invited to jobs as well. In the beginning, yes you will have to search for jobs consistently but it gets a lot easier when you start getting reviews/feedback.
You are very true but it is affected a lot by the country you reside in. Same job same skills but different pay just based on your country (on freelancing websites). Specially in the beginning of your career.
Because they're getting fired.
Yes. Keep leaving your 9 to 5 pyramid scheme you guys.
