Thanks for being so open and candid man. I'm a fan and I appreciate and look forward to your uploads on here. Movies and music have always been my escape from myself and the world at times. We can pop in an album or a movie or go to a show and for those 2 hours or so we can forget about all the noise in the world. I also like to think if anything costs our mental health, it's too expensive. At any rate, keep up the good work and I am rooting for you from afar!

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of this video as I clearly hadn’t gone back far enough. Firstly I am very glad that you pulled through. I know I’m an old fart but still a few of the things you touched upon resonated with me and my own reasons for having accelerated my movie collecting in the last 10 or so years after a succession of life changing events. I continue to have to be mindful of the mental health pros and cons of collecting. I think in some respect we can see movies as the constant in our lives to reflect a mood or take us to a different time and place, or to prompt us to get interested in other subjects or points of view. To me, and particularly by looking at your video of today doing Jon’s challenge, your movie interest isn’t just a distraction for you but rather you have got interested in many types of films and genres and have made considered choices on which films to collect. Keep on looking after yourself
Thank you for the kind words Neil. You are right, it’s become more than a distraction. I used to only watch the blockbuster films in the theatres at the time but now I adore the 40’s and 50’s or even just black and white in general. I’ve been able to explore so many different genres that I never gave an opportunity too.

You survived some pretty challenging life situations with your health and I applaud you for that. Getting in touch with your passions always improves the quality of one's life. I love Criterion although some of the movies i bought on Dvd years ago were not Criterion at the time. (Mulholland Drive, Third Man, Night of the Hunter).

Hey, man. Thanks for sharing your story. There were a few things that eerily matched a few of my own, but I never got any professional help and it probably took me much longer to start coming to peace with a lot of things going on in my life. Glad you got the help you needed.
I personally hate getting rid of things, but when my book or comic collections were getting out of hand, it did feel good to trim the things out that I felt were out of place with where I was at the time. I always look at our collections as a physical representation of who we are and what matters to us, and sometimes things just don't fit and it's good to recognize that.
Much respect for starting fresh when you feel you need to. I'll probably leave my vids up forever (even the cringey stuff), but I'm the type of guy that holds onto things longer than I need to.😅

It does feel nice to trim it down sometimes. I personally always enjoy downsizing but hardcore collectors do not lol.
Hey buddy. Sorry to hear that some of your journey has been pretty tough. I'm sure it's made you better, and you seem very geniune. I think most with large collection have always had a huge focus on one thing in another. Apart from movies, I have obssesed over rock since I was 13, and I even over extend my efforts in the reporting processs of my job.

Life throws curveballs at you all the time. Just this past month my father passed away. I hadn’t seen him in probably 18 years. Life is constantly challenging you. I appreciate you checking out my videos.

I had got rid of my collection after my dad died and after some time I started collecting again and now down sizing a bit glad you are ok
Oh man I’m sorry to hear that. I’m always downsizing. I don’t like having a lot of movies. I’m about 960 currently and it drives me crazy lol. Thanks for always supporting this channel Chris!

@@chrissoto6331 usually I keep the boutique stuff because they will always hold value. I get rid of regular blurays because everything is being upgraded to 4K. Also got rid of a lot of marvel and Disney titles because it’s so easily accessible on Disney plus.

1999-2000 are the years I collected Pokemon cards. I'm assuming 1999-2002 is where your collecting tears were? or is there another reason for that specific range.
I think there's something to the "starting over" because that's what video games are. A lot of games are individual events or you can decide to delete that save file and start anew.
Since my other comment is gone with the videos, I get the chance to write this again. I am staying. For better or worse, you will have to read my comments present and future.
I enjoy 1999-2002 because that’s the first 2 generations and I just love the simplicity of the artwork!
You’re right about the gaming. You can always start a new character path or play evil or good depending on the game. Lots of options so it’s refreshing and puts you in a different universe and you can be someone or something else for a period of time.
