@@Luka1180 i worked by a dog shelter, someone used hotboiling water out side and it froze almost instantly.
The cold water had more time needed to freeze.
It has something to do with the big temparture differences.

The water heats up faster between a few degrees but that won’t help it actually become “hot” it just takes longer

You’re not supposed to cook with hot water because of all the elements that break down from the water heater and in the hot water pipes. That’s why all pot filters are cold water only. The elements in the hot water effect the taste of the food. A world renown chef like Gordon should have known that.

In all fairness, if both the stove and the water is cold to start with, then the temperature differential will drive convection currents that will make the cold water come to a boil faster than what passes for "hot" water out of the faucet. Warm water makes it take much longer for a solid convection cycle to get going in the pan, which means the heat from the burners is being distributed through the body of water much less efficiently than in the pan that started with cold water.
However, if your stovetop or pan is already hot, then there should already be a decent temperature differential going even compared to warm water, meaning the convection cycle will start up anyway, so the advantage of starting with cold water disappears.
I'm convinced that this comment is what made him win the whole thing😂
