How a car suspension system works?

- Car Suspension is the system of tires, tire air, springs, shock absorbers and linkages that connects a vehicle to its wheels and allows relative motion between the two. Suspension systems must support both roadholding/handling and ride quality, which are at odds with each other. The tuning of suspensions involves finding the right compromise. It is important for the suspension to keep the road wheel in contact with the road surface as much as possible, because all the road or ground forces acting on the vehicle do so through the contact patches of the tires. The suspension also protects the vehicle itself and any cargo or luggage from damage and wear. The design of front and rear suspension of a car may be different.
The suspension system of a car provides a swift ride. There are different types of suspension systems. They are divided into two types as DEPENDENT SUSPENSION and INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION. Based on their designs suspensions range from LEAF-SPRING, MAC PHERSON STRUT, SOLID AXLE BEAM, PUSHROD SUSPENSION and DOUBLE WISHBONE SUSPENSION. The mechanism of these suspension system is shown in this video. A suspension system of a car is linked with the steering and drive shaft. Do watch the video if you don't know how.

Very useful video for someone who doesn't have to much time, very well resumed.
Thanks for the video. I have never much bothered about about exactly how cars are put together but when the garage says something needs replaced, it sparks an interest. I was interested to find out how the drive shaft interacts with the suspension and this is a good illustration of that. I had never bothered to get my head around that sort of thing. Of course I have heard lots of terminology being mentioned, but I am starting to put it together in my head now. Could have done it years ago I suppose.
I finally understand how this works watching this video.Thank you💯
there are various types of suspension, yes there’s the macpherson strut suspension, double/single wishbone independent suspension, live axle suspension (or floating axle), leaf spring. But you missed out a few. there’s also trailing arm suspension, where an arm moves up and down as the shock absorber spring moves, most common in Front wheel drive motors. There’s also a swing axle suspension, it’s similar to independent suspension but has no upper arm to make the wheel move up and down in a straight line, it swings up and down, Example of use: VW beetle. Suspension is vital for a car, to be stabilised, there can also be an anti-roll bar which prevents the car from flipping over if it skids. Suspension also creates a phenomenon called “anti-dive” and “anti-squat”. Anti-dive is the car’s nose diving when you brake hard, and anti-squat is where the rear end of the car squats when you accelerate hard.

Nice but short information
Did this video actually just explain the lore behind a chicken wishbone 🤦♂️
Lovely Video! Apologies for butting in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you researched - Patlarny Vehicle History Principle (should be on google have a look)? It is a good one of a kind guide for discovering how to repair your car the simple way minus the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my close friend Aubrey at last got great results with it.
Appreciate video content! Apologies for chiming in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you researched - Patlarny Vehicle History Principle (google it)? It is a good exclusive product for discovering how to repair your car the simple way minus the normal expense. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate got great results with it.

Thank you! :)
How can you tell if strut is bad ? I took severe hit on drivers side wheel and CV axle , lower control arm and the inner tie rod was damaged need replacing . The strut looks fine but some say the strut is likely shot and needs replacing . Took it to this shop yesterday and hopefully start working on it Monday . Some shops sell you on things you don't need . How can I tell ?
Thanks a lot.
really informative!
thanks
Why u watch this video
nice
Thank you for the simple explanation for the more complex independent suspension system versus the conventional (or dependent) suspension system. The drive shaft and the steering rack have to be modified and adjust with double-wishbone movement. Would this type of modification be needed for the rear-wheel drive shaft to flex in a rear multi-link suspension system?
Hi,
If the vehicle is 4x4, there must be a drive shaft at rear end too. So if you have an independent suspension at rear end (which is quite rare for a 4x4 vehicle) you do need the flex in drive shaft.
That computer generated voice makes it very difficult to follow. Too bad, since it would have been an awesome video. I gave up half way through.
Kudos for the video content! Forgive me for butting in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried - Patlarny Vehicle History Principle (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a good one of a kind product for discovering how to repair your car the simple way without the hard work. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my buddy got excellent results with it.
I love the video!!!!!
@@phukfeelings1409 Thank you for your opinion.

Nice video. most suspension parts of car models in China are supplied by Chongqing Feilong Jiangli. Do you have any suspension supplier?
When did Telescopic Shock Absorbers first appear and what cars did it appear in during the 1950s-1960s?

i like multilink suspension

I'm considering making an ATV frame with suspension but I'm not sure what geometry to use for the links. I'd like to model how it would behave before welding everything up with my powerarc and then finding out.
Hey Samuel !
As far as I know for an ATV usually there is an independent suspension (Wishbone) at front and dependent (Struts) at back. Depends on drive train too. If you have a conceptual design you can translate it into a model using soft wares like Solid works, Creo, Pro/E & others. And if you dont know using it you can try sending me the design and i can try to work on it over the weekend.and for free, I love doing it :)
What is the music that used in this video ?
0:17 chasis?
Best regards to video 👌 Mechanical 🔧

Why the intrusive music? Did an adult review this video prior to release?
The animated voice ruins it
Sir Brellin Hi there! We are working on better standards. Soon will upload a better version. Thanks for your review.

Good video, but...you'd think if this much effort went into making the video that
*DEPENDENT and *INDEPENDENT
would be spell correctly. Anyway, thanks for the video.

But ofcourse, acording to #FIA, heeltoe adjustments are totally not part of the suspension system... -_- Where's the logic Fia?
Is it just me or is that voice talking about car parts making me want to call my crazy ex girlfriend for an oil change and tire rotation if you know what I mean?
you forgot to explain how a suspension works
Thales Kruger Games there’s also a few types left out e.g. trailing arm suspension, swing axle suspension
