- In the final episode of Raw Craft, season two, Anthony Bourdain and The Balvenie head to Los Angeles to meet with master cobbler, Raul Ojeda of Willie’s Shoe Service. Willie’s Shoe Service has been around since the 50’s and has been creating shoes for Hollywood films and everyday people for decades. Watch as the team constructs perfectly made custom shoes that will last a lifetime. Directed by Rob Meyer. Music by Tim O'Keefe & Andy Rourke. Photography by Rob Stark.
The Balvenie Distillery alliance with craft is a result of the brand’s choice to embrace the old way. Balvenie is dedicated to the process of using the five rare crafts of Scotch whisky making to create The Balvenie’s distinctive taste and exceptional quality. It is the only distillery that still grows its own barley, malts in its own traditional malting floor, employs coopers to tend every cask, a coppersmith to maintain the stills and a malt master to ensure the resulting spirit is consistently excellent.

I still can not believe that you are gone Anthony, thank you for your storiestelling man, RIP man.
I miss Anthony and all he did for everyone across the world by just starting a conversation.
Yeah man, I miss him and his perspective so very, very much. A true national treasure.
Yes. No one can tell a story better than Bourdain.

This is how you do proper promotion on the internet. Give us unique, valuable, high production value content. I'm going to buy some scotch.
Thanks!
Ed Powers I'm perusing the online stores right now as well...
WHISKY NOT SCOTCH. I HATE WHEN PEOPLE CALL IT SCOTCH.
@@cambell2608 Calm down.
Hmmmm. I’m going to buy some shoes. !!
@@cambell2608 SCOTCH. SCOTCH SCOTCH!!
Urgh, my heart sank right when he said, these shoes will be old friends....
Same exact thing I thought
Dude.... same here. How sad...
he had such a way with words. referring to shoes as friends. man I miss him so much
Heartbreaking moments on these shows when he says things like “ I won’t be around very long.”
Wow he talks about the apocalypse.
I love this series. I love that there are still people out there like this, making quality things by hand because it matters.
It's only fitting that Anthony Bourdain would appreciate these finely crafted shoes. Great Tony Bourdain
Imagine having his bespoke boots. The stories they could tell.
It is Sunday morning, and I just found this show. I am going down a Rabbit hole with this show today! Awesome show.
This is one of the reasons why I followed this guy. Not only did he focus on the culinary side of things but he added other aspects of art into his craft. You went to early Anthony. You will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace
Jordan Acho you do know this is part of a marketing campaign for a liquor, right? He added a fat check to his art.
This type of profession or way of making shoes is still needed till this day.......
Actually, using ''shoemaker'' as an insult has to do with something that got lost in translation: before the French Revolution, 95% of the population wore clogs, not leather shoes, which were expensive. Clogs could be hewn out of a log in half an hour using an adze and a gimlet. So a guy hacking away at a log was a clogmaker (''sabotier'' in French) and if a cook hacked away at a piece of meat with a chef's knife instead of a meat cleaver, the chef might exclaim, ''What are you, a clogmaker or something?''. Btw, my father was a seventh-generation shoemaker.
R.I.P., Anthony, sorely missed.
Especially great thanks to the connection made between cooking and shoemaking. Are you a writer or something?
Marina Mercouri thanks for the very interesting history
My father use to say What are you a shoemaker? ..No... Then why is that steak as tough as boot leather....same went for over cooked foods
Do you ever use the term Cordwainer?
This is great - thanks
Those chelsea boots are gorgeous.
Agree. However for mere mortals check out rm Williams from Australia, best boots ill ever own
Probably my favorite episode of the season!
thank you Tony for the inspiration you have brought me and others, and for the genuine person as you are.
May you RIP!
Something missing, two things. The wonderful smell of a cobbler shop. The leathers, glues, woods are a magical mix. The second thing is the row of old chairs with regulars sitting around swapping stories. Old shoe repair shops are a dying breed
Two of my favorite things - a well-made pair of shoes, and The Balvenie!
I worked at a big handmade boot company for four years doings uppers (the top leather components) and various other things. This made me miss it a lot, we of course used more machines but a lot was hand done for thin expensive leather like in this video. I quit because the pay was bad, but I, and many others had a real passion for the work. I was apart in making and repairing celebrities boots and besides the pay, the work was all worth it and lead to great learning experiences.
Great job guys. This is what our children need to see. How it is done by hand. Love the videos.
Well done! I really enjoy Bourdain's first-person experiences and engagement with the artist (his personal suit, kitchen knife, shoes, skillet) but he's wise enough to branch out beyond that. I'm very pleased, too, that Balvenie Distillery has sponsored the series, posting the shows without charge on youtube. (I bought a bottle, as a thank you to Balvenie - great stuff!)
I HATE ads and refuse to watch them, and I know this is promotional for Balvenie, but they do it so well and give you so much in exchange that I feel like buying a bottle of Balvenie. I guess advertising does work if you do it right.
How can you dislike this?!
I absolutely love these videos and hope that they keep on coming!
Absolutely love this show. Creating something with your hands from nothing is a lost art now.
Still enjoy seeing you Tony!
RIP
Love ❤️ Raul! Wish there were more people who can do what you do!
I will continue to look forward to what I hope to be more episodes like this. Thank you to all those involved in the making, you’re doing great work!
The world needs more cobblers.
Wow! It's hard to believe that you are not here with us anymore. Miss you. RIP
Rest in peace. We miss you and your adventures. Xxx

Those Chelsea’s are beautiful and look better than any expensive designer pairs.
Anthony Bourdain is one of the coolest grandpas out there.
You know you’ve arrived when Tony came knocking at your door, his curiosity was contagious made his fans push their own envelops. I miss him he was my inspiration to make my own skills better.

The shoe maker is awesome . End times .. I want a pair
Tony Bourdain had the power to connect to people from different cultures and places that even world renowned diplomats would envy. He was a charismatic, pragmatic and, by the looks of it, great bloke. I just wish someone could have helped him during his final months...anyways Tony, wherever you may be, know that you are missed!
yay! there it is!

RIP ...Anthony 🙏🙏🙏
30 pairs a year?! Wow! 2 months per pair! What a fantastic story
No., its about 2 1/2 pairs per month. Do your math.
Thank you gentlemen for keeping this craft alive and shame on all those mass produced shoe makers...notice I did not say cobblers...bc they are not cobblers...they are factory workers!
damn, I love shoes
Love the smell of leather on shoe store
god damn I am wishing all of these episodes were much much longer . Please I'll pay !!! The guitar lady !!!oh dear not to sound creepy . But I'll never talk to another woman again ! PLEASE Balvinie Keep coughing up the dough for this REALLY . I don't drink too much any more but I'll buy a coupla cases to do my part to keep this going ......
Lovely
amazing
R.I.P Anthony Bourdain.
my husband has 3 pairs of shoes from Raul and my husband also left two pairs of his old shoes you could see them they're in the background
Misty De Francisco how much did he pay for one pair? do you pay more at first because they need to measure you and make a wooden foot?
we had to pay less because my husband already had his own foot molds made
But it was still pretty expensive but what do you expect with custom shoes and Raoul didn't make the shoes had another guy working for him back then plus my husband brought his own material
yeah expensive, of course. is the price a secret?
No it's not a secret pretty much he looks at you and sees how much he can get out of you
Interesting Craft.
Wear them well, Anthony !!!
Wherever you are !!!
this handsome man makes great shoes wow
Very good shoes over there, i think i drink a Glenmorangie to that episode!
When I read into his self deprecation now, it gets to me. Not similarly, but reminds me of mac miller and juicewrld when I see these videos. Much love and god rest fam 🙏
