I just installed my FloFX bonding flange and it worked out great. Thanks for all your videos and for the coaching a few weeks back, Isaac!
I’m building a neo angle shower and I was so impressed with the FloFX tile grate that I modeled my floor after this video. Nice job!
Tile coach is a perfect name for your channel due to how comprehensive you make your videos and being a coach a couple thousand miles away from me and I’m sure many others is no small task. Especially being such a great coach via a video platform. Thank you for your content keep it up.
I learned so much from your videos -- bought an old house in 2020 and renovated a 1b/1b guest suite, removed the old bathtub, and installed a walk-in shower. Turned out really nice! Then remodeled the main bath of the main part of the house, including a new bathtub and tiled walls. Turned out great again. Then I moved to Australia.... Be thankful for strict building codes and inspectors! Before renting an apartment, I stayed in a few Airbnbs, and they all had showers with almost flat floors; the water drained, but very slowly. Then I moved into my apartment, and it has the same drain as in this video, and the water does NOT drain as the tiles are either flat or sloped away from the drain. Squeegee after every shower! I said something to building management and learned that every apartment has the same problem. And an engineer at my church said the inspectors don't care, or are friends with the builders. The showers are designed properly, but it's cheaper/easier to not slope the floor. What a pain!
When will builders learn that their work will essentially be inspected by the public? Especially by nerdy folks like you who will roast their work on the Interwebs?
I am from the Nederlands 🇳🇱. And I Watch all your videos. I like it ❤keep up the good work
Well done, nice explanation too! You make hard-work look easy. You know, you don't need a gym for a good workout either! TileCoach-YOU'RE THE BEST!
Thank you!
You’re a blessing bro…you’re called and chosen!
That matte finish ended up looking great!
Amazing! Next level craftsmanship
You nailed it man! Just the look I was looking for I love the look of linear drain but won't work for me this is a mini linear drain look, too bad I had just bought the regular one a couple weeks from you, but now I'm definitely getting one of these since I haven't tile my shower pan
Very nice ending to your video ya didn’t have to say the I love you part but you did, so much love to you from my part here in the cold NY keep up the good work ✌️
Thank you.
Learning a lot from you.
Been doing tile for a few years now.👍
Thanks Isaac for another great useful video with accurate information 👍
Always a great job! Love your videos! Many Thanks!
You have my gratitude for sharing your knowledge.
I love your work man. I have learned a ton!!
Very nice work Issac.
14:32 your an Artist in your own right, it’s just that tile is your “medium”; although, you also use paint, deck mud, etc…..
But what an amazing Artist you all, and think….those jobs you o! Should last long long time, making a son/daughter, grandson or granddaughter inherit the work you have done (along w/ team) AND THAT’S PRETTY AWESOME AND AMAZING!
cheers ✌🏻
And blessing to you, Fam, and team on this holiday season🙏🏻
You're the cleanest tile guy I know. 😂 I have to buy a new pair of pants after every shower install 🤣
That is why you keep your old clothes. Wear 'em when you take Physical Challenges, like setting tiles.
Nice looking shower pan! And the fitness tips were a nice surprise.
Thanks so much! 😊
Great video Isaac.
Hey Isaac, thank you for responding to my message in your tile coach members chat. I was waiting for your response before I booked the hour session. I really needed to book the session for this week but I didn’t get a hold of you sooner. I’ve been trying to book for tomorrow but the site isn’t letting me. It’s only showing availability for Monday.
I use epoxy grout on all my shower pans here in Colorado I’m from San Diego to so I miss the hot mop float the walls level. Not here in Colorado walls r always out of level. Love watching ur videos
Where in Colorado? I’m here too. Meza Tile & Stone. Yup all of it out of level 📐🤷♂️
Hey Isaac, question about the new foam features for showers (foam curb and foam bench). How do they stand up to constantly having weight applied to them? Seems to me the foam would give and the grout between the tiles would crack. If a person is standing or sitting on these foam pieces day after day, it seems like they would crush or deform. Doesn't seem like there's enough firm support under the tile with foam compared to wood. Can you do a test?
If the tile is already complete and I just now learned about this awesome drain…. How difficult is it to cut out a section and redo it???
Awesome video but where did you get that silicone bucket liner??
What do you think about integrating simple steam sauna set up in shower
Quick Question, does this type of tiled grate work with the Kerdi shower pan drain? Also, thanks for all the helpful videos. I also have an additional side question: I want to use IP 67 LED lights in the niche and on the underside of my curb sill, is this a mistake?
I am building a Barndominium. When they poured the concrete, I had them frame in the shower floor, and NOT pour concrete there. Because I am building a roll-in shower. Both me and my wife are getting old. She is partially disabled.
Now that I am ready to build the shower, I have a dirt floor 3.5" less than the concrete. Should I dig down about 2 inches and pour some concrete, and come up from that point with hard pack or do you have any other suggestions?
Why didn't you post this 3 weeks ago!? 😀
I just noticed at the end of this video that the traditional Flo FX pan drain will not work with the tile flange. Unfortunately, I already ordered the tile flange and wondered what prevented the tile flange from being used in that way with a traditional Flo FX pan drain and the FloFX tile unit. I believe the universal Flo FX will not work with a Schluter floor pan.
I am building a shower on a slab using the tile I grate flo fx drain. I am also using a goof proof system for my slope. When I make the bed should I use a vinyl liner under bed? Or does it go on top of the mortar bed and tile layed on top of the vinyl?
Love it bro!
I have the same shaped tile in my shower floor but the drain is a round and stainless steel and since the drain is round and the tile is hexagonal the cuts on the tile look like something an amateur did.
You should see my drain. It looks horrific and we just closed on this house on the 28th of October.
How does the water drain from the waterproof membrane if you're adding all that thin set to the plastic spacers, you're pretty much glueing it and creating a barrier, water has to pool and can only drain through the top drain when it reaches the height of the top of the tile? Doesn't seem right? Do you have to add thin set or can it be left loose to allow drainage? Looks like you totally sealed the drainage from the waterproofing layer...?
Question Isaac, is 511 seal & enhance the same product you used in this video? Im looking to purchase but cant seem to find the bottle you used here. Thx.
Been doing tile for 15 years. Never learned to mud a shower and I think I'm going to start from watching your videos. These new houses are being thrown together and things are so off by the time I get the tile flat and level I'm doubling wall thickness in areas. Should I make a dummy frame and waste material practicing floating one out first ?
I won’t say anything about the mis matched tile piece on the drain😂 but it looks amazing man! Love the videos
Came here to say the same thing hahaha dinked up the thumbnail photo! 😅
Noticed them as well
@tilecoach what is your opinion on the flofx banding and corner pieces, membrane when compared to other brands like schluter kerdi?
What did you mean by "modified thinset" when installing the drain cover. Is it a brand or a different way you mixed it.
Can you provide a link to that tile? Or what it was called? Really liking how that looks when "wet".
Ok, I counted 35 push ups. That's crazy 🏋️♂️💪.
Also, how do these drains do with lots of hair?
I use epoxy grout in bathrooms. I know that the waterproofing is behind the tile, but especially in showers I want that extra defense. It's also sooo easy to keep it clean!!
Been watching your videos now for over 3 years. You're awesome.
Same with epoxy. I've not seen follow up videos after a few years to see how the grout holds up. A question I always have.
Here on the wet coast, mold and mildew are constant issues inside and out.
@@als1023 Anecdotal results from me; after 3 years the epoxy grout has no mold, no mildew, no chipping, nothing. I rarely even need to clean it. I'm a believer. And I live in Florida. The humidity is rarely below 70%.
@@margaretbear Thank you for the reply, I used epoxy on the last bath I did, and was very impressed. It was actaully Mapei CQ, which is not techniaclly epoxy ?
Anyway the grout is bullet proof.
I found another video ( revisit to old job from early 200's ) talking about the new / old grouts, on this channel, months back. A lot of chat about the softness of the new grouts, and no ability to scrub very hard when cleaning.
Also comparing to old ' hard ' grouts,
thanks for posting !
What modified thinset mortar are you using? (The mix brands?)
Expert level
How do you remove this for a clogged drain? Mine won’t budge
So confused. Why use the Prism grout if it’s too soft when wet?
Nice job tile coach im learning a lot watching your videos… I do small bathrooms renovations jobs but now I want to go big but I don’t know exactly how to give a good bid you know I don’t want to charge too much but i the same time not to low maybe you can help me with that 👍
Can i add this grate if my floor tile is already installed?
Welcome! Go ahead.
Are the FloFX drains available in Canada?
Would this work with a microcement finish?
Any videos on sunken shower floors?
Where can I get a FloFX drain in Canada
Just wondering if you found a grout that is your go to after doing the experiment on the big name brands which all more or less had mediocre results.
Hey Issac....Have much respect for what you do & how you've been able to grow your company over the yrs....Grew up in Carmichael CA 95821 from 82'-88'...Went to Pasadena Elementary & Churchill Jr. Hi....Been in the industry around the same time frame as you. Was able to start my learning in LV when I went to UNLV early 90's working for my Uncle's company. How can a bonding flange system weep? What I've learned over the past 20+ yrs is that the differences from a traditional 3pc pan system done correctly VS bonding flange systems, is that the traditional system drys out better & faster than the bonding flange systems. Especially when using stone products. Regardless of the correct sealer being used....Keep on teaching my friend... Your a difference maker for the industry!
In our area, we have a lot of trouble with clogged weep holes in traditional pans. It takes 10-15 years but then weep holes clog and water wicks up over the curb damaging the walls on either side of the curb. We stay away from white marble on shower pans for the most part.
The FloFX bonding flange system has integrated weep channels
Kick ass. More stabila pls
What's the name of the tile you used
Th8
Isaac, can I use mapei's top of line thinset to install schluter membrane? I've been doing remodeling over 30yrs and bout ready to retire but you inspired me to do a tub to shower install. Drain looks great!
Yes you can!
What???? So you can’t use a Schluter system pan (requiring round @FloFX grate … and get a tileable drain cover??? :((((
nice. thanks
Hi, if any of those tiles come up can you put them back individually with the stuff in the bucket and use that as grout since it’s only a few? Also the guy said it don’t need to be sealed. The stone is marble I believe. Would it be ok to seal anyways. He dropped the shower door and some came loose. I have fixed them but see cracking. Can that be regrouted. I know this is long 😅 thank you and help appreciated
Installing with grout is frowned upon but I’ve been guilty of it. Not recommended.
Please make sure it’s marble. If it is then it does need to be sealed. Sometimes it can be a porcelain/ceramic that has a marble design to it. Can be confusing. I’m that case no need for sealing. Hope this helps and sorry about the glass drop.
Hello
that looks real good.
What holds down that tile in grate? Just its weight or does it snap in place?
I mean what hold down the tile carrier in place?
Can you please identify the name & brand of this particular mosaic tile and where you purchased it from? It looks incredible especially after the sealer is applied. Thank you!
I can get you pricing and ship it to you. Send me an email 916tile@gmail.com
Isaac I don’t understand I have been looking at buying one of these FlowFX drains but I really want to do a water in water out shower pan. I can’t tell if the FlowFX drains work with the a WIWO pan, it doesn’t appear that they do, only that they can be adapted to a WIWO before they he pan is converted to a topical membrane type system. Is there a good drain that will work with a true water in water out system?
Flo FX only works with surface applied membranes.
Thank u
Thanks
is there a hair strainer that will fit below the grate?
Flo Fx does not carry any strainers on the inside of the body. Good question. I’ve always wondered why they don’t. When I see them I am going to ask if they considered .
Tile coach! Have you or would you install penny tile on a schluter shower pan?
no
@@TileCoach I ask because i have a client wanting that and the actual box of the schluter kerdi pan advertises a picture of the penny tile on the pan. I just can’t see it adhering properly. Maybe I’m crazy?
Looks like 2 pieces are backwards
Tile on the grate one doesnt match lmao and did u get that water bottle out of That wall?!
It's because the other tiles were wet you dizzy headed ding bat
I only use flo fix drains now! Thanks tile coach! Check out our videos here from Maui hawaii
The only thing I can’t be agree is why you use hardy backer for shower pan . Always has to be float it .
Edgar, it does look like hardie the grid pattern can confuse someone; however this pan is a lot like other prefab foam pans (I’m sure Isaac would say it’s sturdier, so not like other foam pans 😉). It is called RSS. Revolutionary Shower Systems.
be careful my friend... a blade doesn't eyes!
You can see the shower floors by watching my videos on CZcams. "Custom Crafts by Bruce Slaton"
While I love your videos and acknowledge you're a superior tile installer, lets admit how off center that drain really is lol.
Bruh you messed the drain up and then used it as the main photo! 😅 other than that nice work :)
because you know?...those 7 pieces of tile is what all life revolves around. been there...ughhh....looks good though.
i shall make a video honoring the process...oh hey you did that?
You are Swedish 🙂
Great grandfather from Boden
Stealing this idea
@TileCoach - I see on the @FloFX website they refer to a new, improved design. It seems they have put an opening in the corners and a recess along the edges to allow moisture to wick/drain away. This video is only a month - old so have you seen anything about their new and improved tileable drain grate design? Pictures on their site show both forms -closed corners and open corners.
Thanks for posting
