This was written by Cole Porter, one of the great composers of the 1920's though the mid-50's well-known for his especially clever lyrics. His catalog of music is vast. This song was introduced in the 1934 Broadway show Hi Diddle Diddle and was an immediate hit, it's been recorded by many artists since.
Just one note, though her name is spelled in a variation of the name Betty she was named and has always been called Bet. Her mother named her after classic film actress Bette Davis, who did pronounce her name as Betty but it was a common habit amongst her fans at the time to refer to her as Bet Davis leading to Midler's mother's confusion. Mrs. Midler was a rabid movie fan-Bette's sisters were named after 40's stars Judy Garland and Susan Hayward!

Wow never heard that one by her before lol …. But she did record a jam back in the 70’s - Do You Want to dance. Y’all wouldn’t believe it’s the same singer (So Smooth).
