- Thank you to our patron Bruce D for this fantastic choice! I was so happy to see we were going back to this same concert we did last week and holy shi... Rockshow brings the house down in every way possible. That might be my new favorite song of theirs. Just so, so good. I need more now lol.

One word describes Paul McCartney.....one which is banded around far too easily but in Paul McCartney's case he is a......genius.
I agree. That word should have his face by it in the dictionary
You probably mean “bandy about”.
@@fightman49bandied about.
@@bonniebaltz5717 yes, to bandy about is just a different tense. In the context of the original comment, “bandied” and “about” was what should have been used. Thx.
One of the four Genius.....
The best sounding live album that i've ever heard is "Wings Over America" by Paul McCartney and Wings.
"Pulse" PF is right with it.
Why is it that some recorded live concerts sound so good and some sound weak I love “Joe Cocker Live.” It just sounds so good.
Arguably, one of the best rock and roll voices ever!!!
This whole show is one of the greatest concert videos of all time!!!
Linda played a big part in Wings' sound, both on keys and vocally.
Wow, I’ve never seen this. It sounded way better than I expected. “Jet” has always been a favorite of mine, along with “Helen Wheels.”
LOVE LOVE "HELEN WHEELS" and the VIDEO for it!!
I was at the 76 show in Los Angeles and this by far is the best concert I've ever seen. The energy from beginning to end was just nonstop. When he started Venus and Mars and they went into rock show and then from Rock show went straight into jet the crowd went nuts. Excellent concert.
Transition to Jet is wonderfull.
@@juanfranciscomunozolano8110 Absolutely
ABOLUTELY!!! I was at the '76 show in Detroit! It had been 10 years since I saw Paul with the Beatles on Aug. 14, 1966 in Cleveland (saw them first, also in Cleveland , my home town, on Sept. 15, 1964, I was 17 that year).
Wings was at the top of it's game at this point. The addition of Jimmy McCullogh put them over the edge. More Wings please.
John Bonham recommended Joe English as a drummer to Paul and I know he attended at least five of these shows
The four guys in the back are the horn section. Everytime they showed them playing, you had your eyes closed. Great, great show. I was so lucky to have been able to see it live in 76.
ME TOO @mgonzales56,, WHERE did YOU see the '76 concert? I saw it in MAY in DETROIT.
Let's go--Magneto and Titanium Man is worth it.
And Medicine Jar is great...
The opening of "Venus and Mars" is so beautiful. McCartney magic. The live album, "Wings Over America" was packed with great stuff. A triple album. There are few musicians who can produce this much great music.
I remember it well the first time I saw it in the record store and then was amazed hearing it for the first time!
This concert film is from that tour.
Paul still plays a great 3-hour Rockshow, I saw him in 2019 along with Ringo and Ringo's brother-in-law Joe Walsh.
You have to see “Soily”from this concert!! Amazing Paul vocal performance… and it rocks hard!! The end of the show closer!!
What a BADASS! The Beatle... The Wing... The Solo Artist...
Paul McCartney! Wings was a SOLID band...
"Magneto and Titanium Man" is a great gem from McCartney and Wings where Paul indulges in song his love for superhero comic book heroes/villains.
Thanks, it's always fun to listen to any song from this album.
Short story - I was concessions manager at several CNE concert events in the early nineties and while walking down a corridor to get from one end of the stadium to the other I see this golf cart coming towards me. To my amazement I saw Paul and Linda + the driver riding by just mere inches from me.
In true typical Canadian fashion I put on my best smile and a nod as they drove by, and they kindly returned the gesture and then they were gone.
I honestly believe this man is the most talented in music and everyone else comes after him... genius
I saw him in Toronto back in 1976. Couldn't get tickets as the show was sold out. I told my girl that we are getting scalper tickets, cheap ones. I negotiated with a scalper two floor seats 8 rows back. The pair cost me $130. Back in 1976 that was a weeks pay for my nurse girlfriend. Sale price on the tix was $9.50 each. I told her I paid 40 bucks lol. But the show was unforgettable and Paul was in fine voice. When he sat with the others to do his acoustic part people were very emotional. Bluebird, Blackbird, I've Just Seen A Face and then made everyone emotional singing Yesterday. I will never forget it...
You sir are my hero 😁👍
The best $130 you ever spent. Jealous.
Soily, last song of the concert. Fasten your seat belt for this one. Paul comes out swinging. The bass line, lead guitar drums amazing. You'll be speechless.
You GOT THAT right!! I have been asking him to react to "SOILY" from this concert film several times now, I HOPE he DOES!!
@@patticrichton1135 Paul's voice, well the performance is powerful.Ok Lee time to do Soily. you'll love it
You definitely SHOULD watch this one! But, if you're going to watch more songs from this show, save it for last.
I love Wings!!!!
The girl I took to this show (an old friend from High School and avid Beatles fan) had a firm grip on my right bicep when Paul started performing and tightened her grip at various points in the show. I had bruises on that arm the next day. In 1976, this was before Internet when you could get concert tickets. When this tour was announced I was visiting near Houston when I saw a list of tour dates in a magazine and the first show was Ft. Worth. I cut my visit short and drove to Ft Worth and after many attempts of contacting FM Rock stations, I got no info on when tickets would go on sale. I drove back to Tulsa University sad and walked in the back of the frat house and was immediately approached by a grad resident who offered me two Wings tickets for the Denver show he couldn't go to. I paid him the $10 each he was out. It always seemed to work out for me when I wanted to go to one of the Beatles solo shows. It was pure Fate.
Yes Paul McCartney is the GOAT! He is the best composer of beautiful and catchy melodies and riffs! The best! Yes you have to listen to Magneto and Titanium Man! It’s awesome!
There's nothing like a McCartney concert. His joy in performing just radiates off the stage. Years ago--even before VHS--I had a video DISC of this concert, and I absolutely wore it out.
The reason you got the credits at the beginning is that this is actually the opening to the 1980 theatrical release, ROCK SHOW, which presented an edited concert from the 1976 WINGS OVER AMERICA tour.
Paul McCartney is the Greatest Songwriter & Singer & Performer of the 20th Century. That's not my opinion....that's Just The Way It Is. Prince comes a close 2nd. As a lifelong Beatles fan, when I first saw Paul 1990 (at the age of 26), I cried tears of joy throughout the entire 3-hour concert. I've seen him seven times since. His voice is complete SHOT now, but......PAUL McCARTNEY FOREVER 😃
No one else has answered the question so I will: The horn section on stage were Howie Casey (sax), Steve Howard (trumpet), Thaddeus Richard (sax flute clarinet), and Tony Dorsey (trombone).
Casey had played with McCartney for a few years and played the sax solo on Bluebird on the album Band on the Run.
Paul met HOWIE CASEY when the BEATLES were playing those HAMBURG, GERMANY gigs in '1960-'61. So HOWIE goes WAY BACK with Paul!!
I love the wings part of his career. Loved this lineup. And hey I'm a Beatles baby. I was 14 when they came to Ed Sullivan so I've had a lifetime. But this is one of my favorite Paul McCartney & Linda McCartney times. Hey if you happen to read this do mull of Kintyre
That lineup, rocks hard. We had VHS back, then .🕊❤️🎼
Bruce that was a real treat. There was such an explosion of musicianship and songwriting once Paul was freed from the shackles of The Beatles. Awesome video.
Venus and Mars / Rockshow were the opening tracks from the "Venus and Mars" album. And Jet was the second track from "Band on the Run" The crowds at these shows went nuts. Afterall this was the first big scale USA Paul concert since the Beatles. Paul only did five Beatles songs in this show. Most of the show covered his Band on the Run, Venus and Mars and Speed of Sound albums. Paul played his Beatles Rickenbacker Bass (minus the stripped off psychedelic paint he added in the late Beatles)
The whole Rock Show is on CZcams the whole concert 2 1/2 hours of pure joy I watch it every I don't know three or four months
Everything is alright when you hear Paul’s voice. So much joyful vitality! What a beautiful musician.
What a wonderful concert!
Thank you, Lee and Bruce!
I saw this tour in Atlanta in May of '76. First laser lights I ever saw and only the 2nd time to see a flown PA system. The horn section was a good addition on several songs.
Paul's vocals hit well on this Rockshow '80
That was some serious fun.
I was 6 when the Beatles performed live on the Ed Sullivan Show. Although I'm 65 now, The Beatles, Wings, and the other boys affected my life seriously. I couldn't wait until they would perform again on some variety show, but it was not often. There was a cartoon created during that time, which I watched whenever it was on and always enjoyed singing along with the songs. I went to their movies and was just heartbroken when I heard they broke up in the summer of 1970. I wanted them to get back together, hoped that they could. When Wings began, I certainly enjoyed the music, as well as the songs of the others. They were the "Thing". I've not heard Venus and Mars in a long time and was wowed by it. Even at my age, I can appreciate a song more and more, if I continue to listen often. The musicianship is simply astounding. "Gods" of music, certainly. Thank you for the reaction. : )
One of the greatest concert tours ever! You really have to see him live to realize how good he actually is!
Paul can absolutely bring it whenever he wants to. Another fave banger by him/them for me is 'Junior's Farm'.
You can say this about so many musicians but where would be without Paul McCartney? What a great live performance. My favorite song of his might be "Just Another Day". Not exactly a rockin' song but all too real for so many women.
Fabulous. Genius, yes. And i always think with Paul, value-for-money - so much invention, strong tunes, great riffs, and a generally jaw-dropping density of memorable moments all packed into a few minutes. I could say this describes his whole career. What other act delivers as much as Paul?
Great selection! Thanks Bruce D and Lee. :)
'Call me back again' is one of my favourites of McCartneys. Well worth a listen and also on Venus and Mars.
Here's a live version; czcams.com/video/2JylIJU8drM/video.htmlsi=2kEQgK3i_HJSil04
Not sure if you’ve listened to Let Me Roll It yet? His shows were magic. Nothing like him today . His shows could rock and then he’d sing a ballad. So versatile. Watch the video for 1985. I think you’ll enjoy it .
Hard to believe this line up was formed after the album Band on the Run, which was recorded with just Linda and Denny. McCartney played bass, drums, percussion and most of the lead guitar parts. Then this tour with amazing musicians inspired by playing with Paul.
Wings was so vital during this period, "Venus and Mars, "Red Rose Speedway", and "Band on the Run" -- all great.
Seems like I remember seeing Joe English's own band at Disney Land a few years later.
Recommendations: Again this is Wings over America. But I'm still pushing for live performances from 2000 onwards from DVDs "Back in the US Live (2002)". "The Space Between US" (2005) and Good Evening New York City (Citi field) (2009). This is the band he's still working with.
God how I would have loved to be there!
I was MSG
I was, in Detroit, May 1976, I wish you had been too, you would have LOVED it!! But at least you can watch that concert on You Tube, or buy the DVD.
Wings Over America tour, 1976. I was 18 and saw the Long Island NY concert
@louisdellavalle2159 I was at the show in Detroit in May, I had just turned 29 in March. Saw the Beatles twice in Cleveland, on Sept. 15, 1964 when I was 17 and then on Aug. 14, 1966 when I was 19. Still have my ticket stubs for both of them. They didn't come to Cleveland in 1965 because our MAYOR BANNED them after the 1964 concert!!
This ensemble was an amazing live band, and sadly only two members are still alive (Paul and Joe English). Please keep reacting to "Rock Show" songs, as you will not regret it. A three-record album was released with songs from this concert and there isn't a bad song among them.
Wings Over America top drawer live album/film. Every track a good 'un.
I'm so glad I got to see the Band On The Run tour. It was amazing and I got to see a Beatle live!
Just plain badass! Great reaction once again to 2 great tunes...thanks man!
The 4 guys in the back were a horn section that played with Wings that whole tour, and several years after that.
Thanks for reacting all the way through Jet. Wings goes straight into Jet from Rockshow without pausing as if they were one song and a lot of reactors break them up. It's such a seamless transition and a relentless opening to the concert.
Glad you enjoyed my friend!! I loved this so much. Paul is the man.
Man.
I love the channel but what I really love is seeing how you react to McCartney now. In the beginning you didn't know what to expect but now whenever his name comes up you take is as a serious piece of music without hearing it first but because his name is on it you know it deserves respect. McCartney is the greatest song writer, musician, performer, front man ever. And that's before I even mention his amazing live vocal.
Man, I can't help but get excited watching this performance, it represents the best moment in Paul's solo career. He is the man who created Sgt Pepper and here he is playing the beginning of his album Venus and Mars using a similar concept of introducing his band, that energy and his voice are just abnormal. Furthermore, as a fan you have to know he was the Beatle who had the hardest time getting his career off the ground after the breakup of the Fab Four, but here he shows us again why he is a genius and why he is the KING OF THE MELODY. Please react to any other moment of that show, I bet you will love whatever is in that presentation.
From the same "Rockshow" film, the encore finale, "Soily". Or the other encore, "Hi, Hi, Hi".
Yes I was one o' the lucky ones to see Paul McCartney two nights in a row 1990 in Berkeley, Ca. The band included Linda McCartney-keyboards 'n vocals, Hamish Stuart-guitar, bass 'n vocals, Robbie McIntosh-guitar 'n vocals, Wix Wickens-keyboards 'n vocals, 'n Chris Whitten-drums 'n percussion. They were so fantastic they brought the crowd to tears o' joy! It was an unforgettable experience...'n two nights in a row?...WOW!
Yes. I was there too. Awesome. Rock on.
I also saw that 1990 tour, as well. Twice.
I saw Wings in 1976. Fabulous. McCartney is pure genius. Backseat of My Car, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five, Let Me Roll It, Call Me Back Again, rockers....then try more ballad like songs, Calico Skies, Every Night, Jenny Wren, to name a few.
I always enjoy watching Paul perform, he is such a good entertainer! One of my favorite VHS/DVD is Live at the Cavern Club (1999, I think).
Live at the Cavern was the most watched live internet show at the time. A waste of having David Gilmour in a band, but a great show.
Paul literally shaking and bouncing with energy and enthusiasm. Man has big batteries
This how Paul opened each show on the Wings Over America Tour
I saw this tour at The Forum in LA; we knew someone involved and had spectacular seats. It was absolutely fantastic. A few years ago, I played a benefit concert and Denny Laine was a guest - I got to play "Go Now" with Denny; thrill of a lifetime!
This was Wings peak! The concert was a triple album and went to no 1. He will introduce the horn players during the concert. Watch the total show 3 songs at a time! You won’t regret it.
The five Beatle songs he did in this show were I've Just Seen a Face, Blackbird, Yesterday, The Long and Winding Road, and Lady Madonna.
Venus and Mars is my fav Wings record. The outro to Rock Show is so nostalgic (now get your dress on!), deep cuts Spirits of Ancient Egypt, Call Me Back Again are some of the best Wings stuff IMO. Of course I love the lads, but there are plenty of times I'd pick Wings over them if forced to choose.
Paul is so unpredictable, and yes this rocks! What a joy to watch :)
JET, one of his best!
a flash back to my teen years in the 70s
I had the good fortune to attend the Wings Over America show in St. Paul, MN in 1976. It’s still my favorite concert that I’ve attended. You should check out the closing song from the show - “Soily”. It proves that Paul. Can. Rock.
Beware My Love from Rockshow is great!
McCartney and his Rickenbacker bass... Its why I bought one
Check out "Call Me Back Again Live" ... real eye opener!! What a voice!
I HAVE ASKED LEE to please react to the LIVE 1976 video of it from this concert! I HOPE he will!!
Also Junior's Farm Live
I now live in Chicago & Sir Paul was playing Wrigley Field. I still could have gotten standing room only tickets but my hubby said no. They were $300 after all. My brother lived 3 blocks away in Wrigleville. I ditched my family and sat on the sidewalk & listened. Another cool Sir Paul is Hey Jude at London Olympics. Unfortunately you can’t hear the crowd like when you watched it live on TV, but WOW! Check it out. Just found your channel. So happy I did. 👍😀
That concert film was released to movie theaters back in the day
Yes, 4 years after this concert tour was filmed. It was in the theaters in 1980
I saw this show at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. The concert was totally sold out. I paid a scalper on the street outside the Gardens $ 50.00 for a ticket for a seat in the first row of the balcony. That was a lot of cash in those days but there was a rumor going round that the Beatles were going to reunite at the show which of course didn`t happen. But to this day it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. I have never forgotten it. Their rendition of "Live & Let Die" at that show was one of all-time best live performances of a tune I have ever seen anywhere. I have never regretted the $ 50.00 I spent for the ticket that day.
They introduce the horn players later in the show. This whole performance is one for the ages! It should be a part of any music lovers collection. Please do the rest of the show in order.
YES, LEE NEEDS to do the REST of the show IN ORDER!!!
From the first time I heard it, Jet has been a favorite of mine. Great reaction!
Thanks for complimenting Linda on her keyboards. She rarely got compliments and it's nice to see that you recognize her as a solid supporting musician 😊
She really adds a lot to the sound. It’s great that her and Paul were both musicians. I bet they rarely were bored… lol
@@L33Reacts The coolest part is that Linda was not a musician until she was with Paul and they decided to start Wings. He sat her down at the keyboard and said, "This is middle C" and started from there. You should listen to "I Am Your Singer" from Wings' Wildlife album. Features them both singing lead. It's such a sweet little song.
I know it wasn’t because of me that you played this but it makes me happy that I did suggest it to you. Pretty amazing stuff, what?
I’d forgotten how incredible Joe English drums sounded -
What a thumper - the toms 😮
Saw Paul and Wings @ The Spectrum in PHILLY Way back in 1976 Doing this SHOW was as close to seeing the Beatles as you could get in 1976 The GIRLS where Screaming!!!
Lee, Live & Let Die is pretty awesome on this live show. Magneto & Titanium Man is also on there.
There's only five Beatles songs on there, but the whole triple album is great.
Loved your reaction, my man. Yep, that's a stellar way to open a concert! 😁
I'm glad he gave the last phrase to Linda! I saw her with him in concert three times and. Heart aches from missing her. But by including her he showed his real genius. The backside of the album has "Standing in the hall of the great cathedral," live performances. Paul's bass was so loud m. Bo mm bones rattled. When you get your 300 dollar headphones. See how loud ou can get it: live is louder. 🎉🎉🎉 Thanks!!!
I remember going to Kemper Arena in Kansas City Missouri in 1976 to see the Wings Over America concert, I was very happy to se a Beatle live in my lifetime, I was 17 at the time and I had hope that a Beatle reunion would happen one day 🙄🤔
This was THE classic Wings line up ... Joe English was a monster on the drums. Jimmy McCullough was a hot guitarist but had a lot of trouble getting along with McCartney. Denny Laine somehow remained faithful to the Wings ideal for the longest - I guess he knew a meal ticket when he saw one. And of course, Paul and Linda made Wings what they were - the biggest band in the world at that time - 1974. This was a brilliant concert. My first major rock concert - Wings were sold out in Sydney in about 20 minutes. And that was before electronic ticket purchasing. People actually lined up at ticket outlets.
My parents knew someone who worked for EMI and got a ticket to me for my 16th birthday, which was November 2, 1975. The concert from memory was November 9.
And if you know your Beatles trivia, you might realise that the Beatles' final single, Now and Then ... was released - on my 64th birthday.
🙂
Classic live Album Wings over America , check out “Soily” and “Beware my love” the whole album captures the peak of Wings Live
If you wanna hear Paul's bass playing skills listen to Silly Love Songs. There's a good video for it too. Like the 💀 and 🦇
Silly Love Song is FRUITY as hell.
@nonrepublicrat Lol, I guess you're just way too tough and cool to listen to it 😆
Saw this tour. Excellent! The very next night, I saw the WHO. Exact same seats!
The tour was called Wings Over the World ... and the album was called "Wings Over America" ... a great live triple album.
You need to watch he entire concert
AND REACT TO IT!!!
On the Venus and Mars album, the song Venus and Mars was a one verse introduction to start Rockshow. On side two of Venus and Mars the song appeared again with two more verses.
Give us “My Love” please, Lee.
It may be a little twee but Henry Mc.Cullough pulled off one of the most perfect guitar solos ever played; up there with George Harrison’s “Something” or Dean Smith’s solo on Beefheart’s “Further Than We’ve Gone.”
Just learned Jet on guitar, it’s a fun song to play
Saw this show at the Hordern Pavilion Sydney in November 1975. Best night of my life.
🙂
Dunno how Denny Laine lugged that twin neck guitar around all night. Those things are back breakers.
The 4 guys were the horn section! Linda was indeed very good for being new to a band. There is a full length concert film Called Wings over America or Rockshow here on CZcams as of a few months back.
Jet is the second song on the album band on the run. The studio version is extremely well done it comes after the title track band on the run
I saw wings over America tour it was my first big concert. SO AMAZING
