Different countries, different prices, different perspectives. In Australia, the prices of Seal are unbeatable, cheaper than Model 3. Also here in Australia the indicator stalk is the correct way, unlike Model 3 which has no stalk at all. Plus Model 3 has the stupid ways of changing gears (on the screen or overhead buttons).

    • @BendeVette
      @BendeVette Před 6 měsíci +5

What do you mean with "Plus Model 3 has the stupid ways of changing gears ".
I'm not aware of any gears on a Tesla, so I think you mean something else.
The BYD Seal is about $3000 less expensive than a Tesla Model 3.
      So that's a thing indeed.
Whether or not this is an unbeatable price difference?
In overal, the Model 3 is a better car with (probably) a higher sale price after 5 years and cheaper to run (less kWh per km).
The Model 3 has a better ride quality and seriously more boot space.
So, it really depends if those stalks are worth the difference.
p.s. I like the looks of the Seal better, but the new Model 3 is not an ugly car either.

@@BendeVette probably means by "gears" changing to drive, reverse, etc.
The Seal in Australia is $51k on-road (in QLD) and the Model 3 is $65k on-road. That's a little more than $3k difference ;)
However, the $51k is the "dynamic" version, which is one level lower than the one shown in this video. Not even worth considering.
If you compare the Seal Premium, which is equivalent to the one from the video, then you're talking $5k difference.
About resale value, it's hard to tell, but I would bet on Tesla holding the value better than BYD. Both would still be bad though.
One thing not covered in the video is the "safety" features of the BYD, which tries to send you to oncoming traffic, and the "auto pilot" that can't even keep you in the lane. Features you have to disable on every single drive so the car doesn't try to kill you.

I just had a test drive of a Seal Premium and Dolphin top range today. Seal has very attractive exterior when I see it in person. Nicely designed interior feels like traditional car interior with all the buttons so those who like physical buttons will like it. However, the deal breaker for me was the flimsy infotainment system and the lag of one pedal driving. Also the dash screen was not designed in intuitive way so even though it displayed a bunch of information, none of them is useful while driving. Their hardware looked pretty good, however, they need to work on the software way much more. With the price gap of $3k from Tesla Model 3, I would go and buy a tesla Model 3. Seal has a value for people who don’t want many features from a car but for me Tesla is way more advanced in terms of feature wise.
My conclusion is, BYD’s hardware almost matches Tesla’s one but the software and the features are far less advanced at this stage. No netflix, no CZcams, no browser, no sentry mode, no pin to drive, no pin to glove box, no auto hold on a steep road, having to start and stop the car and etc. are what it’s missing compared to. Tesla.
Dolphine was quite good but the price range of over $45k AUD is not really attractive for what the car is.

The new Tesla model 3 Highland is a non-starter for many people as it's too minimalistic.
This car looks great and is more conventional to suit buyers moving to an EV.

Have you tried the new Model 3? I was VERY sceptical towards the indicators in the wheel, but it took me only half my 30 min test drive to get completely used to it. Not a problem at all. And changing "gears" through the screen is very easy. The car can even choose for you if it detects an obstacle in front of you it'll assume you'll want to go backwards.

Looks are subjective, Tesla is more streamlined, BYD takes a more additional approach in my opinion. Front looks better than TM3 Highland, the back worse than Highland (BYD looks far too asian for my taste). Tesla gives a spaceship vibe, BYD standard car vibe, nothing good nothing bad.
Software design, UI structure, translations, animations, service mode, games, native built-in apps, mobile app integration, driver profile synchronization and portability between cars, as well as screen computer performance are 500 times better in the Tesla obviously, same as with Autopilot, BYD Seal autopilot can't keep it in lane centered on European roads in recent testing, Tesla does it no problem. BYD on the other hand offers Android Auto integration for example, while Tesla uses completely own OS.
Interior BYD has traditional design, Tesla again most things on the touchscreen. BYD offers premium upgrade to get a Heads up display, Tesla does not. Personally, having driven the Highland, I did not miss any display in front of me, but that is subjective and everyone definitely should test drive both!
Personally I don't like the glossy surfaces in the BYD interior, but this is personal taste.
Storage space is more in the Tesla, and frunk is bigger in the Highland. In the Model 3, the rear seats folded down do present a much flatter surface than in the BYD, making camping in the Tesla vastly superior. (plus camp mode in Model 3 is very nice).
Model 3 also comes with Matrix LED adaptive headlights at no additional cost in Europe, which is a HUGE plus, especially driving long windy roads or on the freeway at night, BYD does not offer any such feature.
According to a review by an actual EV mechanic, BYD uses a legacy approach for the ABS sensor design at the wheel axis, which means it will be broken 100% in less than 8 years requiring extensive repairs. Additionally, BYD is heavier and bulkier than Model 3, with tires being too small to support it when doing erratic maneuvers, when compared to Model 3 the ESP had to engage every single time on BYD to keep it on the road.
Maintainability is far easier on the Tesla, because on the BYD, a mechanic needs half an hour to only unscrew the underbody shield (70 to 80 small screws) to even be able to diagnose any problem if such occurs. Model 3 uses like 5 big screws, done.
Tesla service centers are far more present here in Europe, I don't even know where I could take the relatively new BYD for repairs.
BYD has average working auto wipers, Tesla still has a problem with the wiper speed in rain (got better but still needs work).
Sound system definitely superior and louder in the Model 3 having listened to both.
Model 3 is more efficient than the Seal no question, need to charge less electricity as a result and saving money.
Fast charging speed is faster in Model 3 than BYD Seal
What I noticed is BYD is faking pictures of their car on the website, in real life the gap between wheels and chassis is bigger than on the pictures, but many Chinese car brands are doing this practice to make it look slightly better on marketing images.
Tesla images seemed normal for me.
      Cheers!

Reviewers back at it again 😂 I've had one for 4 weeks so here we go: Aircon controls are on the steering wheel and center console. The kwh figure is not annoying as anyone driving should be looking at the road. The issue with not seeing the screen can be easily solved by moving your hand or your head to check whatever you want to check. Strong smell of plastic is a what everyone else calls the "new car smell". I've had multiple passangers in the back and have had no complaints about the seat comfort, it's actually the opposite. You can open the boot with they key or using a button on the door if you didn't want to touch the boot. My indicator is on the left. Design version is plenty fast and super fun on the back roads. Stick it into eco mode and it's a super comfortable cruiser.

I personally don't think this review is fair, although I do agree with his comments on the center screen. I'm not a fan of the Seal, nor of the Tesla Model 3. My work requires me to split my time evenly between the UK and China, and I don't own cars in either place. However, I recently completed an EV tour in China, and I was spoiled for choice. If I ever need to permanently relocate back to the UK, I would struggle with buying an EV here for one reason: the price comparison. Knowing how much they cost in China, I find it hard to justify paying £46,000 for a Seal. For that amount, I'd be considering a Zeekr 009 in China, which is superb. Alternatively, if I wanted to indulge in my childhood dream, I'd be looking at the Xiaomi Su7 for half the price. :)

I also found having the indicators on the right side of the wheel was very annoying. It's still better than having no indicator stalk at all like the Tesla 3 which is safety nightmare. Driving wise it seemed quite refined but it rolls rather than being 1-pedal. I think the infotainment screen is too big imo and the rotation is just a stupid gimmick. Should just fix it a bit lower in the vertical config and for android auto / carplay, split the screen so aircon and other controls appear below them.

    • @alexshepherd
      @alexshepherd Před 6 měsíci +3

Yes, Model 3 performance is far ahead of the Seal - top speed of the Model 3 Performance is 162mph, top speed of the Seal (all versions) is 112mph. Charging rate, 250kW vs. 150kW.
The Model 3 is a minimalist design with very little clutter, not even steering column stalks on the latest model. The Seal is a lot more ornate, with two screens, quilted seats, various strange features outside like the gills under the doors and the swage line that leads nowhere.
When you sit in both of them, you see how much more spacious and comfortable the Model 3 feels. The beauty is more than skin deep.
It extends to things like putting in a destination far away and knowing exactly where and for how long to charge, as the car works out elevation, speed, temperature changes so you don’t have to think about any of that. Making things simple is a hallmark of good design

In China, Indonesia , Thailand and many other countries BYD is eating Tesla alive for lunch. It’s much better than Tesla in terms of looks, battery tech (CTB), speed, interior, exterior design and many others. Of course pricing too.

More expensive than model 3 i Norway. The 3 seems like a better choice for several reasons too.
