BYD claims their DM-i plugin hybrid powertrain can go over 2,000 km (1250 miles) on a single tank of gas, so we decided to put it to the test!

It is wrong to have quoted BYD's mileage claim, saying putting it to test, and tried to disprove it with deliberate very different test conditions.
On top of climbing mountains, the car was loaded with 2 other passengers and luggage. He is implying that BYD is lying. The intention is a very bad one.

I get your point but let's be honest here, only an idiot would listen to him especially if said idiot doesn't understand how MPGs work.
The manufacturer ones are *NEVER* correct in real world conditions simply because there are waaayyy too many factors in play when driving normally.
Let's also not forget that the douche in the vid could have had a very heavy foot, drives like an idiot and might have set it on any sports mode or similar.
With what he got, that's already very very very good to be honest.
Plus he did say in the end that he drove beyond 90 kph while the rating he posted was supposed to reflect low speed travel and not Need for Speed levels like he clearly did.
@@ytfanlingeric50-something MPG is still excellent. Why get mad? He never implied that BYD lied
Basically, it means I can make a back and forth trip between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo with 1 tank of gas and still have some fuel to have fun inside the city. It really beats my Civic LXS for a great margin.

I reckon Chinese government should revise their driving range measurement system. I think they should set up a much tougher and higher benchmarks. I want China to be a country that setting the standard for everyone to follow. So that in the not too distant future hopefully the "Chinese standard, benchmark, quality” is something that becomes a common phrase.
I used to think that too, I bought my xpeng g6 in winter, its a 755km range version, i only get about 500km, but now is late spring/summer, I get near 700km
I recently traveled in China, and I think the main reason they continue to use CLTC is because most people really are just driving around cities and that test reflects this usage. For long distance travel no country in the world can match the Chinese high speed rail system in terms of how fast, smooth, and comprehensive it is. Took me from Beijing to Chongqing in 7 hours flat cruising at a smooth quiet 350 kph. Beats both air travel and road trip when you've got that HSR system.
The same vehicle, with a tester running 2400 kilometers, I think this is related to personal habits

Don't forget that the driver drives almost the whole way on the highway and carries two passengers and their luggage. If the load is light and contains more general urban roads, this car can easily reach 2000 kilometers.

1400-1450 KM is 870-900 Miles... under "realistic" driving conditions... Not bad for a $15,000 USD car... and a gasoline hybrid?... I can't believe I'm saying I'd actually consider it...
Highways cost much more fuel than low-speed city roads for electric and hybrid cars. This car can definitely go ~2000km if only used in city.
Agreed.
Does it need to be charged daily to hit 2000km?
@@PsychedMedia no, hybrid means you burn oil to charge the battery and use electricity to power the car.

This is gonna give the GAC Aion BEVs a run for their money in the rideshare market. Didi driver mostly operate in urban environments and can probably squeeze huge amounts of range out of these without charging, especially if they go for the bigger battery 120km trim and plug in every night.

It would be great if an ev can show us the energy consumption of each main components. This can help us to figure out what is the real energy consumption of the powertrain. I also like to know what is the percentage of the accessories power consumption, especially the power hungry air conditioner, headlights or blowers.
The obvious in this test is the significant amount of rain on the drive. Rain is well known to cut around 30% of the range for EVs.
No range drop because highway mainly uses fuel, battery EV features aren't used as battery will have been drain
But in urban area daily travel only ~100km most distance uses Battery
Thus easily daily urban travel can over 2000+km
Daily go home & charge car Battery
Long range holiday travel will see lower total distance as fuel is mainly used to power car on long distance day trip
Over hilly area even less km as more fuel is used

Thank you for the test. For normal daily drivers in urban area 80km or more range uses BEV features a lot save lots of fuel easily reach 2000+km. Each day go home recharge battery
For holiday over long range car consume mainly fuel, not using much battery range will drop to as your video calculated ~1,300km or less range (if driving mountain, hilly area)

Short distances it uses Battery thus can easily achieve 2,000+km range
For daily urban drivers doing their work & travel use routine
Correction, Urban driving doesn't require daily recharge to achieve 2000+, as long as you set up the "Foced battery saving" to 25% or higher, which will extend ur mileage dramatically
