    Loosing friends, if they are genuine is so rough. Especially if you already feel alone because of the foreigner status.

    Indeed. Korea, for better or worse, is becoming the destination spot of Asia. In the same breath, it is also fast becoming the most departed-from place in Asia too.

    Thank you for all of this! I want to go live there for a few months to experience the culture and life (not gonna stay permanently) but I want to be realistic.

    this is so true for moving abroad in general! i moved to london and everything resonated with me apart from the language barrier but especially the loneliness and friends moving back home 😭

    I'm an American who has lived in Korea for over 11 years. You are so right - people come here thinking that it's going to be like the dramas, and it really isn't. There are a lot of good things, but also not great stuff (like a very disparate economy, gender inequality, pollution, intense pressure on students, etc.). Korea is a modern country with traditional values, so it is often a big shock to foreigners.
