    Terrific casting in this scene, and in the show in general. Brie Larson is perfect as the strong-willed, super-intelligent, and impossible-to-bully Elizabeth. And Kevin Sussman and Rainn Wilson are great choices playing variations of their long-time, well-known TV characters. Just finished watching the series last night, and desperately hoping there's a season 2.

      @KuunLan87 No, this is acting. I was trying to think of other actresses who might be able to do this role and I can only think of a few. Rosamond Pike, perhaps. Possibly Emily Blunt (funny how the ones that come to mind first are Brits). As to the men are the enemy stance: the book is about a renegade in the early 1960s who was denied her masters degree due to SA, was living in a time when unmarried women rarely had separate bank accounts and were known as "Mrs. John Smith" and not their Christian names, and being a single mother had as much social stigma as getting cancelled on the internet does now, but with a lifelong impact. It was a much different world back then and there are relatively few people left now who were adults back then. This fantasy reminds women to guard against going back to such times.

    In the 60s. My parents and their friends NEVER said the F word. My dad was a pimp and my mother a barmaid. He had his women and mother had him. However, no F word. How society has fallen when a lowlife pimp has more respect than the whole of society in America 2024 !

      Being a pimp is far worse than saying a word. I’m sorry he chose that path and you had to grow up with that kind of father. Women deserve better than being treated like objects to be sold, and you deserved a better example.

    • @ErisRising
      @ErisRising Před 4 měsíci +11

      My reflexive response to this was certainly appropriate, but unfortunately also as obvious as it was bannable. I'll just say that if your father was truly a pimp who didn't cuss, he was a true rarity, but also proof that a clean mouth is no sign of good character.

    • @serenity1378
      @serenity1378 Před 4 měsíci

      If you're more concerned with the F word being more common than the fact that we've made great strides in human rights (though not nearly enough), you need to refocus your priorities. I'd rather every child in the WORLD cuss at people if it means equal rights become an actual reality. "Fallen".
      Your delusional childhood memories do not define reality.

    i’m conflicted to whether watch the show.
    i thought the show was about showing love and motherhood in chaos society in 60s.
    Came here because of the lunch issue
    then she was a scientist and now she was a TV host who can’t smile or make a drink. 🥃
    Sound Okay to me but the way she executed it kinda off.
    but strong love it. 😂
    but “liberal power bait fantasy” for this show is a bit unrealistic for 60s
    edit:
    now i get it why it’s “off”
    i’m comparing this show and her inability to smile to another great show of Sheldon Cooper.
    Sheldon kinda relatable than this 😂

There are very amusing, for certain values of amusing, compilations of TV advertisements from the 60s, where I suspect he tunneled in through some wormhole, here on CZcams which illustrate this trope to a tee. Even in the 60s they bordered on effrontery, 60 years later they ared highly cringeworthy.
