    OMG!! I was ready to jump off the Chaffle train until you came up with the Batter Buster recipe! This is the one! I made them today and so crispy and non distinctive flavor which works great for sandwiches.. it doesn’t take away from the chicken salad for example but has that crispy toasted bread.. I can add seasonings for Italian bread, a savory rosemary.. the possibilities at endless!! I crown you the Chaffle King!

      So they don't taste like anything? I've made French toast chaffles and the eggy-ness is expected since our regular French toast tastes like that, but for a breadstick, that doesn't really work.

    • @slashdotism
      @slashdotism Před 2 lety +3

      @@alyseb5730 They have sort of a whole wheat flavor because of the psyllium husks. My sandwich chaffle is made up of egg, mozzarella, psyllium husks and almond flour. Psyllium husks are also really good for getting some more fiber into your keto diet which can be harder to come by when you don't eat bread etc.

    It is worth noting that using a detergent cleaner on a waffle plate is never recommended czcams.com/users/postUgkxUfphIgghPSpAXNq6OG2WRYsFVqylcqMn though people who don't understand about kitchen hygiene won't understand that a stiff brush is all that is necessary to clean the inside of the unit. Let it cool slightly but still perform the cleaning while it's warm. I used to have a Black and Decker unit that I just loved, and was concerned when we had to replace it that I might not find one that I like just as much. This one does it for me.

    If you like whole wheat flavor, I stumbled upon an absolute game changer! I ran out of almond flour and substituted almond butter. No egg flavor and it tastes like whole wheat bread!! It's seriously delicious. I used a whole egg, 2 tablespoons of almond butter, and a half teaspoon of baking powder, a tablespoon of heavy cream. It's perfect! Sorry, no cheese.

    • @SeriousKeto
      @SeriousKeto  Před 4 lety +7

      I will have to give that a try the next time I have almond butter on hand. I have some homemade pecan butter, and that might create and even "darker" wheat flavor...🤔

    I just did something so brilliant I’ve tried doing this before with many other keto recipes and it always tasted terrible. I had a brain storm!! This time I did my fave savory chaffle recipe. Used one room temperature egg 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese pinch of salt pinch of oregano to give it to Jersey Mike’s flavor and a little bit of water put it in my ninja bullet until it smooth & thin and I put it in a 12 inch lightly oiled skillet medium heat and made it as thin as I could. Took two spatulas to flip it but once it cooled I smeared cream cheese on the top and put sliced turkey and sliced cheese and I rolled it up oh my gosh it was heavenly I dont miss bread and tortillas anymore

      @scottinokc I do this too for Burgers & other hearty beef sandwiches like Sloppy Joe’s etc. it makes the Chaffle very sturdy and the flavor melds well with beef, that said I still tend to taste slight edginess at the very edges where the chaffle is softer, more moist still. One could probably further minimize that possibility by blending the mixture well before pouring into the iron, but I admittedly usually put some sharp cheddar down on the grid directly & pour the liquid over to fill the iron, so the sharp cheddar isn’t likely as evenly dispersed as possible.

    Steve, I just tried these and they really are delicious! I don't mind the taste of eggs, but when I saw you adding psyllium husk I thought maybe I can just add my 3 capsules of fiber supplement (about 1 teaspoon when opened and measured) into a morning Chaffle. I'm thinking it might be easier for my body to process when incorporated with food.

    Thank you for this video. No yolk 🙂 After discarding the yolks every morning for a week I bought just the egg whites in a carton. I put extra egg white from the carton and it seems to make them fluffier and thicker, and doesn’t spill over for me. When I used the egg white from the whole egg I only used 1 egg white and it was perfect. I put one strip veggie bacon, more cooked egg white and a sprinkle of cheese to make a breakfast sandwich every morning. That and keto coffee I can go all day.

    We just started making eggs benny and this fits perfect! We can use the yolks for the hollandaise sauce (which is much easier to make than I had originally thought) and the whites for the chaffle to set the poached egg on! I shudder to waste a yolk!!

    • @SeriousKeto
      @SeriousKeto  Před 4 lety +5

      Eggs Benedict are huge in our house. I also make my own Canadian bacon from scratch (link: czcams.com/video/WOrhfc0ANTc/video.html ). Also, America's Test Kitchen has a way to poach multiple eggs simultaneously that is the most perfect, foolproof way I've ever used. I'll have to do a full out Eggs Benedict video one of these days -- especially if I can create a chaffle that mimics the consistency of an English muffin.

    When hubby makes keto ice cream he uses a lot of egg yolks and it leaves us with lots of egg whites. Since I am one of those people who has a hard time with the taste of eggs (but I love cilantro) he usually makes himself an omelettes with the whites.
    I decided to try the yokeless chaffle...I did 1/4 cup of egg white and 1/4 cup of cheese and they came out perfect. I made a hamburger stack....chaffle, herb cream cheese, avocado, arugula, hamburger patty with mushrooms on top and served it with a salad and keto fries. Thank you for this recipe I am happy to have found another way to use the egg whites.
