Mini waffle maker in this video - amzn.to/3AC1AQJ
We have seen so many variations of these chaffles in the past but it can be overwhelming as to which type is actually the “best” - some recipes use cheddar cheese, some mozzarella cheese, and some are even cheese free or use a base of ground meats.
After I make the waffles, Kevin joins me in a blind test to rank the 4 waffle recipes based on taste, texture, and “comparability to the real thing” to see which waffle recipe is the winner!
Recipe #1 - egg and cheddar cheese only
Recipe #2 - Egg, cheese, and pork rind (Credit to KetoFocus www.ketofocus.com/recipes/ket...)
Recipe #3 - Lactose free version (Credit to Beth's Keto Kitchen • Cheeseless Chaffles | ... )
Recipe #4 - Egg & ground chicken

My fav - 2 eggs yolks, 1 Tb butter and 1/2 tsp baking powder. It’s like a real eggo.
Oh interesting I am going to try this next!! Thanks for watching!
That is exactly what I came here looking for! Thanks for that!❤
Baking powder or baking soda
No cheese?
@@Sure.Not. No cheese needed to make the waffle. This is not to be confused with a chaffle.
My fav is 2 eggs, 1/2 cup Pork Rind Panko and 1 T of butter. Perfect if your trying to cutback on cheese.
I make chaffles with 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, one egg and cinnamon (about 2tsp) it makes two. My grandkids love them, with a little organic maple syrup.
Nice! Thanks for sharing
I do 3 TBSP pork panko, 3 TBSP egg whites, 2 string cheese sticks (rough sliced into 1/4 inch circles), 1 TBSP plain whole milk Greek yogurt, 1 TBSP grass fed melted butter, 1/4 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp apple cyder vinegar, in a mini food processor I add the cheese and dry ingredients pulse until the cheese is chopped up into verry small bits and well incorporated then in a separate bowl mix the wet ingredients and combine into the food processor and pulse to mix well, scoop 3 TBSP batter into the pre heated dash mini spread out with a butter knife (it helps the batter release from the spoon and knife to dip the spoon and knife in avocado oil before each scoop) cook until light turns off, taste just like butter milk waffles. I also add Italian seasoning and garlic powder in the batter and a little shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese on the waffle iron first when making them for burgers or Philly cheese steak sandwiches. the vinegar and baking soda react to help them rise and fluffy on the inside.
Do they stay crispy if you batch cook and freeze?
@@TheH2712 I haven't tried that I just make them as I need them
@@paulburkey2does your recipe make two?
I had lunch with an old friend I had not seen in 30 years or so. He lost 40 pounds in 4 months, largely through changes in his diet. Among the changes we talked about Chaffles. He went on and on so here I am looking on CZcams (aka the Encyclopedia Galactica). Thanks very much for your video.
1:18 pro tip: Spatula.... 🙂
Hey Theodore, welcome! I’m guessing your friend was doing keto or carnivore? Glad you stumbled upon our channel and thanks for commenting :)
@@AliceCeeCPA I think it was carnivore because he kept talking about eating a lot of meat and no carbs.
@@theodoreolson8529 cool! let us know if you try any of these chaffles and like them :)
@@AliceCeeCPA I'm looking at Dash's...do I want a single or the 4-chaffle model? 🙂
I used Ketogenic Woman’s recipe. 1 egg for 2 waffles, 2 eggs for 4. But I found that if use either Gruyère, Parmesan or Asiago cheese shredded. Either in a cheese combo, Aldi’s used to have a bag of Asiago, Gruyère & Parmesan shredded. Sprinkle the shredded cheese then pour beaten egg, salt, close lid until light goes off then top off with more shredded cheese. Comes out crispy & firm so I use an a bun for my burgers.
Thanks for sharing, we definitely want to try using different types of cheeses for our chaffles!
Love Ketogenic Woman Anita!
First time watching you guys, loved the format
How much cheese do you sprinkle?
@@elizabethporter6398 just enough to cover the surface of the Dash mini. Nowadays I just sprinkle the cheese than pour the beaten egg and more cheese on top then close lid. The longer you leave it cooking without burning of course the crispier it is. As long as every surface of the egg has cheese it will be crispy.
That looks so good that I decided I needed one of those waffle makers. And I bought some pork rind crumbs...but I accidentally got Italian flavored! They are absolutely gorgeous and taste amazing! Thank you so much
My go to is number 3, because I try to limit dairy! I love eating it with a fried egg on top! Or using two to make a breakfast sandwich with eggs and bacon.
We’re trying to limit dairy a bit more now too. Recently started doing ground pork and eggs and really liking that variation as well!
My absolute favorite so far is one from the LowCarb Abode YT channel. It's better than any _real_ waffle. 4 Eggs beaten, then gradually add and beat for about one minute a mixture of 4 Tbsp of collagen powder and 2 Tbsp of beef gelatin. That's it!
I add a pinch of salt, a tsp of vanilla and a few drops of sucralose (NO Splenda, it has carbs like dextrose and maltodextrin), but those are optional. Put it into a hot waffle maker until the steam stops and it's like eating a crispy cloud!
I tried that one too....loved it.
Thanks so much for this recipe
# 2 would be good as a sandwich with a sausage patty in the center. This was great, thank you!
Great idea, a sausage breakfast sandwich! Thanks for watching!
Thank you Kevin for showing #3 close-up. Really appreciated this video! Thank you to u both.
Our pleasure!
My go to is 1 cup of mozzarella and 1 egg, real easy to mix with a fork and a pleasant flavor that is not cheesy or eggy. The Dash Mini Waffle Maker that makes 4 waffles at once is a game changer and I recommend it highly. The cook time can be adjusted for a softer or crispier end product.
definitely need to try that! Thanks for watching!
A x ass a cc77😂😢!
Agree, she had too much egg. I also make 3 out of this recipe
I have a mini Waffel maker that I have had for a while, simple easy recipe, can’t wait to try it!! Thanks 😊!!!
Next time pop the finished in a toaster oven or air fryer to crisp up to get a more waffle texture.. I've been making the pork rind and cheese version for a while, and toasting before eating really upset the Chaffee game. Enjoyed the test 😃 😊 😀 😄.
Great tip about the toaster oven! Ours is buried somewhere in the garage haha maybe we should bust it out again. Thanks for watching!
You two are the sweetest carnivore couple ever! Thanks for an inspiring channel
Aw thank you for the kind comment! Stay tuned for more 🙂
They are! So glad you fed me their shorts ☺️
I made the cheddar cheese chaffles a LONG time ago. I didn't like them so I decided chaffles weren't for me. WY to eggy and cheesy. Recently, I gave them another chance made with mozzarella. Yum!
Thanks for doing this taste-off. We've been wanting to make some and this helps us decide which recipe to try.
That’s great to hear, there’s definitely a lot of variations out there. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this. There are so many options I didn't know where to start. At least you took some choices off the table, so that helps. I'd really like to nail this because I feel like this should be a staple in the carnivore diet. It's an easy shortcut for bread.
This was very enlightening. Thanks!
That was awesome!!! Keep the new ideas coming guys!
Using egg whites, pork rinds, ghee, salt makes a crispy light Chaffle.
Cassityart... then it's not called a CH-AFFLE, but you just made a Waffle, because there's no CH-EESE in it. But still sounds interesting. 👍
Thank you for showing all of these. I just tried a recipe from Low Carb Abode - she uses just eggs, collagen powder and gelatin. They came out great as well.
Interesting! Thanks!
Thank you for doing this it's a real time saver!
I just found your channel and I'm so glad I did. You are a pleasure to watch.
I think on the ground chicken one--you would get a better (and safer) result by cooking the ground chicken first and then putting in the blender with your other ingredients.
I was thinking the same, poultry needs a lot more cooking time than the other ingredients.
Strongly agree.
I made these today. So, so delicious. Thank you..
if i am making more than one waffle i put mine on a cookie cooling wire rack. i found on the plate they just seemed wet and soggy. but great video
Great tip! Thanks for watching and happy new year!
Yes, when I make my batches to freeze I always put them on a cooling rack.
Some great ideas to try guys!
Thanks for watching!
Love this review.
use a cookie rack to cool b/c a plate will steam the waffle a short time
Great idea! Will do for next time :)
😅😀 thank u for silencing the food processor. Some of us use head phones
Always!
7:06 - aw, that's 💕
Thank you for doing this!
I wonder if #2 and #4 were mixed... Hmmm.
I tried a recipe that was similar to #3, but like you did, it adds more pork rinds. 2 eggs, 1 tbsp melted butter, 1/2 cup ground pork rinds.
I loved this video!!!
Thanks Jenni glad you enjoyed!
I've made the chicken ones before, and their flavor and texture are a lot more forgiving if used for a hamburger sandwich. I love it! But they are probably all good for sandwiches!
Thank you.
I found the best way to get a firmer crunchier Chaffle was to put a pinch of cheese first on the griddle then pour the egg on top even if you have cheese mixed in it and then a pinch of cheese on top of that and when it comes out instead of putting it on the dish put it on a baking rack so that the air circulates around it and it dries out faster and it's more crunchier. But I'm so glad to see that you weren't using any flour in any of these recipes because I was around for the birth of chaffles I used to do keto years ago and when they started with this I was right there but now I see people using all kinds of flour and calling at a chaffle and it's not and that's just irritates the hell out of me
if you want to try the chicken one again, try this recipe and cook it for 5 minutes, you will get a product that tastes like chicken mc nuggets from mcdonalds
12.5oz Can Chicken Breast
2 Large Eggs
1 Cup Shredded Cheese (cheddar is my fave)
Black Pepper to taste
(Onion Powder and Garlic Powder Optional)
great tip I’ll try it again with cheese! I’ve actually tried ground pork (instead of chicken) with eggs recently and liked it more than the chicken. Thanks for watching!
I only use egg whites in my chaffles and it’s less eggie. Just a tip.
we'll try that next time! thanks for the tip :)
Agreed! I only use egg white! Three tablespoons egg white, half cup mozzarella, 1/3 cup shredded Parmesan, quarter teaspoon baking powder…..so good and a great pizza crust
Adding about 1/4-teaspoon of vinegar eliminates the eggie taste
@@landb3893does your recipe make two?
Here in the UK we use almond flour, cheese and egg….really good
Great fun video thx
Fun video. Thank you.
Interesting that you eat with your fork in your left hand instead of your right.
My go to breakfast chaffle:
2 whole eggs, roughly 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, a little grated parmesan cheese, 1 diced hot dog sausage (but I prefer a proper German bratwurst sausage).
The technique I use is to quarter the sausage lengthways, making 4 long sausage sticks, then chop them all in one go. to make the diced pieces.
Super to see you agreed on number 2 for taste! I think it was egg, mozzarella and panko!
Hi Susan, thanks for watching and the comment!
Please try making these and other's by substituting butter with Suet or Tallow or bone Marrow. I can't eat any dairy including ghee, so changing it up for substitutes is best for many autoimmune ill folks.
I love #2 but I always put a little shredded cheese on the chaffle maker first to make the outside crispy.
Great content as always. I bought a dash a while ago… I should take it out and give ground beef and egg a go… doing carnivore. No dairy.. I will keep you posted may try cooked bacon with egg on top. I’ll keep you posted. You guys are great. You never disappoint. Thank you and keep the content coming❤️🥩🥩
Thanks Cathy! Let us know how ground beef and egg goes, it would probably be less dry than the chicken we tried.
You’ve invited the Weird Waffle 👍🏾 🤣🤣 Congratulations🤣🤣. Great Work 👍🏾
I cannot believe I just watch both of you eat 4 chaffles each. I'm totally loving eating carnivore! I'm going to try the mozarella and cheddar ones (and, yes, I am AIMING to eat 4), but I will be adding 1/2 a tsp of baking soda to the recipe (I've seen that recommended in your comments and in other recipe posts). I may only make to 3 chaffles.
If you want to make them more bread-like, use 1 tbsp or so of almond flour and 1/2 tsp baking powder along with the eggs (the mozzarella cheese does work with this, but isn't necessary). This makes them keto, not carnivore. I make them all the time for my granddaughter and she doesn't know the difference!
Thanks for the tip!
I made this today and added xanthum gum and cinnamon butter flavoring….made great waffles with no sugar syrup! Yum
I do 1/4 cup egg beaters, 2 tbsp almond flour, dot of baking soda, 1 tbsp olive oil, and a dash of vanilla. Soft like eggo waffles. I can add a dash of hemp seed, chia seed or flaxseed for variety. Even everything bagel seasoning.
Camrobn... baking soda - not baking powder!?? 🤔
Also I use them for sandwiches put beef patty cheese etc in the middle of them like a burger
oh yes this is a great idea! thanks for watching :)
I use egg, almond flour, baking powder, cheese, a little cream or 1/2 & 1/2 make a batter and it comes out good. I make enough for the week and then toast them in the toaster before eating.
thanks, only been making the egg and mozzarella version - I like using a mixture looking very thick (more mozzarella) that is more crispy/dense and sometimes “toast” them in oven broiler
I don’t like cheap-looking none-stick of the Dash that i have two of (got for $7 each!) - really want an electric carbon steel or cast iron waffle iron 😳
Ooo do let us know if you find a decent cast iron version!!
@@AliceCeeCPA will do… spent a bunch of time looking a year ago I only found pro models in $1.5k range
As I was watching by #3 I was thinking they are going to be sooo full if they eat all 4!
Hi friends, new suscriber. I like a lot your video. So useful. I made my own chicken flour, so I made yesterday my carnivoure chaffle: chicken flour, egg , salt and cottage cheese.
So good.😊😋 Greetings from Ecuador.
Sweet couple! 😊
I would love to go back to eating these but I had to take Dairy out of my diet so I'll just wait until I hit my goal weight and then maybe I'll just add it back in. Cuz I miss my cheese.😊
I love the chicken waffles the most… add some vanilla and cinnamon… or use it plain for a sandwich.
Loved the taste test on the different varieties of chaffles. I don't care for any egg flavor so my go to is 1cup of cheddar & 1egg blended in food processor. I also have made it with 1/2 teaspoon of bacon grease and fresh crumbled bacon added. Adding 1/4 teaspoon of aluminum free baking powder really improves texture. Pretty sure carnivore police wouldn't approve.😔 Great video!💜✝️
great tips, next time we try the cheddar and egg one we will use the food processor instead of just mashing it with a fork haha
Add a wee dash of vanilla and it Will take the eggy taste away.
Great tip!
Chicken one can be used as crust for pizza.
#2 is the way i always make mine.
I’ve made them several different ways. But with the meat ,I cook the meat. Hamburger or chicken then add it to my Chaffles. Hubby likes the cream cheese mixed in with the egg. Taste good. But I’m more of pork rinds, egg, and mozzarella person.
Suggestion-
Make with egg whites only-
What brand of pork rinds aren’t fried in vegetable oil?
It’s not supposed to taste like a waffle, it’s supposed to be a bread substitute.
How long do you cook them for?
2nd one NO pork rinds and 1 tbs Almond Flour, and 1/4 of baking powder. Eat with butter and sugar free syrup is best.
Could you use as a taco shell?
Since I don't eat regular hamburger buns, these may make a wonderful substitute bun?
Put them on a wire rack after cooking to keep them crisp.
I bet the original ground lamb is better than the ground chicken it's usually dry unless you add a lot of fat to it.
2 eggs, 1-1/2 T protein powder, 1/4 t baking powder, 1/2 cup ricotta cheese - YUM
Seems like the last one may have needed something that would add some fat. Lamb would have much more fat than chicken.
I just found your video after I made an egg and cheddar waffle the day before yesterday and mine did not fluff at all it just was flat with the pattern imprinted on them. It still was good but not fluffy at all.
❤️
Thanks for watching!
chicken mozz panko and egg makes the best
Kind of like cheese omelette.
No pork rinds
The chicken one would probably be good for a chicken on a bun 🤷🏼♀️
Sorry is too eggy , I would go with 1 white egg . I got to try the pork rinds ! Some one said if we all couple drop of vinegar we won’t taste the egg 🤷🏼♀️
Chicken cooked flour is more delicious than raw ground meat.
Ok I’m about to start the Carnivore diet and am not used to eating dry waffle. Is there anything carnivore acceptable you can substitute for syrup 😋
Haven't tried it but I'm wondering if you could make a syrup with LMNT. I'm new to this, also, and I ordered the LMNT but coming tommorow. The flavored ones are sweetened with stevia.
@@meredith3588 problem is I try not to use any sweetener ever which is my dilemma! 😞
@@meredith3588
I LOVE ME SOME LMNT! ❤😋
I also use Keto Chow to make my keto ice cream for the Ninja Creami. Yum-o.
@@wanda7519you can melt butter, or just ghee if you're sensitive to milk protein, add dash maple syrup extract and vanilla extract and even cinnamon if you like it. ..nutmeg. Pumpkin pie spice.... Do little samples to see what flavor you like.
@@elizabethporter6398 will try 👍
you always eat waffles plain?
This was only done for a true taste test of each... you do with them as you desire : make a sandwich, add syrup, add burger, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. Can be used in place of store-bot processed unhealthy loaf bread. 🙈
I just got my waffle maker… making eggs-philadephia cream cheese!
Nice!!
I'm allergic to eggs. Wha wha 😢
It’s weird 🤣🤣🤣. That’s good he did a blind taste test .
best not to ruin the waffle iron with metal utensils... otherwise, enjoy!
Waffles? They're omelettes
Just make an omelette 🤣.
Waffles are not that great as stand-alone. They substitute for bread in sandwiches, open sandwiches, hamburgers or pizza bases. I've even made them with a tin of sardines, an egg and some cheese.
Do you call a "Waffle" a "Waaffle"???
Denvercoder... it's only a CH-AFFLE when it contains "Ch-eese"... otherwise it's a Waffle. 😄
Egg and cheese does not a waffle make. "Just cause a cat has a litter in the oven, that don't make 'em biscuits!"
Florian... with "cheese" is the reason it's called a CH-AFFLE, not a waffle...lol 😄
Liquified chicken does not look good!
It’s not Waffles with a C. Don’t say aaaa
I make waffles that are fat, eggs, and cricket powder. Delicious.
We’ve never tried cricket powder before but sounds interesting!
@@AliceCeeCPA It taste fine but ur poop will smell awful. I know this from experience
@@papazjose1274so are you saying you eat your crap 😂
@@micaonyx5301 I meant to say (and corrected) "will smell awful." worst than eating beans
I like with pork rind powder then (fake) sweetener and cinnamon! So good.
Lol, butter is dairy, fyi.
Correct, but have no dairy protein... that's what they meant
Ghee takes care of it.
@@karenreaves3650 the point was, she said it
was non dairy for people with lactose intolerance, but it had butter in it. Her statement was false...
@Believe30 the debate comes up because myplate.gov divides foods into a "dairy group" and a "fats group" and they place butter (& sour cream, etc. = little calcium/high fat) into the fat group instead of dairy.
How is this carnivore? Why wouldnt they say keto or low carb? Carnivore diet is literally 100% meat with nothing else.
The first and second are omelettes not a waffles. Ground meat in a waffle? gag.
