- I don't have the answers on why people are so in their feelings or #emotions when you pass on #sneakers in 2024 but I need people to do the inner work so we aren't dealing with this past this year. Let's wrap it up by end of 2024 because if I pass on a #jordan #nike or anything else that drops, why does that make you feel some kind of way?

It's jealousy! Because you are making grown up decisions and they aren't able to. Because of your discussions, I have found peace in LOVING a shoe, but not BUYING the shoe. I was in two raffles today for an Wales Bonner Adidas shoe. But I could not comprehend the cost of $190. So guess what? I canceled both bids. ALSO, misery loves company and it makes THEM feel better to know that you are throwing money at sneakers, instead of making decisions that work be for YOU! Aww this just absolutely made my day! Thank you!!! I can't see what's there to be jealous of when they have the free will to make a different decision on a shoe, the same as I have on it. I'm really glad my discussions have fostered some normalcy in liking a shoe and being in this culture without needing to drop $500 monthly to show you love it.

When you say pass and it’s a must cop for them, it makes them feel as if you don’t have any taste in sneakers because YOU passed and you’re supposed to cop every release which is irrational. Buy what you like at the end of the day.
It feels like I am, as a creator in this space you're almost expected to do that
I told somebody that I passed on the military 4s because of lack of space, and the fact that I have royal 1s/game royal 1s /royal blue foams : and dude look baffled when I said it .

It does the complete opposite of tell somebody they can’t buy the sneaker. It opens the door for one more pair, and that size to be available.

I’ve always said buy what you like. If you can afford them and within your budget. You said it best take accountability. I’ll never judge another person who passes. I’ve never got the hate in the past, if I passed. Last time I check , cost of living goes up. Still waiting for my check to do the same.

Those AF1 flea markets were and are some of the ugliest shoe's I've seen, but youtubers still were hyping them up
what's even more crazy is those same people usually say AF1's are bricks or trash. Yet all of a sudden Af1's are becoming hyped up. Yet every other non-hype Af1 that comes out gets trashed on or gets no hype. You can also tell who the rookie hype Af1 buyers are by how they say, "Omg these Cpfms have such good leather". Like that's anything new they've had good leather on most of the premium/collab Af1s for years. Shit some of the best Af1 leather was from 10+ years ago when they made Af1 bespokes.
I didn't think they were the worst thing I've seen, but they weren't for me. They received plenty of hype though

In my head, we are friends, TJ. So as an online friend, just put on your blinders to whatever disturbs your peace. Thats in EVERYTHING. Im not on social media (at least not the more popular forms of SM) and its a peaceful life knowing my decisions arent influenced and /or dissected by ppl I dont know. Social media has normalized trolling, groupthink, poor decision making, and a slew of things that are adding to the decline of individuality and overall individual thought.
Appreciate it Jordan! Great words and advice to keep in mind. Everything you mentioned is alive and well in the worst ways on SM, especially IG.

I see this happening a lot sadly enough, people who are frustrated in life get on the internet and spew out their anger. That is something you can't avoid as a content creator or anyone else that's in the spotlight.
It's especially hard for someone like you who is building a community. Not easy but you have to try to ignore the negative comments. OR you could also look at it as an opportunity to make content about. Just don't let it get in your head.
I don't know if it would help but some video's I saw recently from people I follow talk about this as well. Namely Finn McKenty's "The people really, REALLY hate me" and Cereal At Midnight's "Unscripted: The Cult of Physical Media"
Again, even though it's frustrating you shouldn't let it get in your head. That's what the internet is and it's just that: the internet talking.
You are 100% correct. As a creator I can't avoid it, part of the territory and you're also right that I can't let it get in my head. I have worked to make it part of the content, only so my community here can have insight into the feedback, good and not so sensible that comes with it all. I'll have to check those out! If you say you’re good on a shoe, people feel like they’re lame for wanting the shoe. But in all actuality the problem is they need validation from other people to buy the shoe. Just buy what you like.😅

That's what I said about upcoming Balvins releasing on Wednesday. I feel that the off-white pair is better than the black m pair and I'm getting so much shit about my opinion on that shoe.
And I agree with you, I like the white pair much more than this pair.
The true underlying issue is that those people have become slaves to the sneaker game and FOMO is a real MF.
These people can’t say no out of fear and in a lot of instances real addiction.
You being able to pass on a new release shows free will that they have given away.
I think it's scary that we joke about sneaker addictions or sneaker"heads" but in truth I think you're right, there are some honest truths that apply.

They connect when it's something they like as well as if they want to make sure you are on the same page. But then you differ in the slightest and you're the enemy. They miss the part where we are individuals and have separate tastes. No 2 people will agree on everything

This was great topic TJ . I see it all the time. Key word you touched on was/is “subjective”.
One person might think a “Bad Bunny” collab is dopest pair ever. Whereas you or I don’t get it at all, & Vice a versa.
There’s levels to this like anything else.
Most important thing though is to ENJOY it, I feel since it’s turned into a job for people (as In primary source of income) if you didn’t live kicks before you loved profit you’re going to be miserable.

Even with inflation going on the sneaker community has become so toxic, you know you have some deep rooted issues when you get mad at someone for having their own reasons to pass on a shoe, I myself have become way more selective just because I have so many sneakers already, so do I need every pair when I can barely wear all the shoes I have now in a daily rotation? Sometimes you just got to be more disciplined and people are struggling with it.
Discipline is a struggle but without it they will continue to make excuses of why they don't achieve the things they want. And sneakers like many things on SM can be toxic, have to find the bright spots.

It's the sheep that go on GotSole reels and say the Pandas are the worst sneaker release of all time. The sheep, and I'm sorry, the younger gen sheep, that are easily influenced by other CZcams content creators with backpack and sports gambling sponsors.
The term sneaker head/sneaker culture has been replaced with sneaker reseller, and 90% of CZcams creators are resellers. They wanna be told what to buy and if 9/10 creators are saying to buy, they're butt hurt when you say you're not
I cringe at all GotSole reels when they're asking kids who are barely old enough to buy shoes without mom/dad funding them to say that shoe is the worst shoe of all time. It's far from that but they feel validated in that statement because everyone else is making it too. I think resellers play a part in the value of a shoe only seen through resale price versus meaning to each person/functionality. But I also think it may be bigger than just that because some aren't referencing the resale at all, just that you're insane for not thinking a shoe is God's gift to sneakers as a whole.
My main issue is how current markets charge more than the retail price for shoes that came out 5, 6 years ago
Well they are charging what's in line with current prices, even if the OG or a retro back in the day was one price (and originated then), they'll always charge what's trending today.

People who lack a sense of or confidence in themselves seek external validation, therefore, if someone with a larger following says that a particular item isn't it, then that invalidates their decision.

Hmmm...I feel like possibly some people feel they have an immaculate taste in sneakers? I see this in two categories.
1. The "Everyone should be like me" type: No particular number of sneakers owned in this case but a person has new sneaker and feels it's the best thing since sliced bread, recommends it to the world and for whatever reason feels offended that you don't feel the same and then just thinks something like "Oh you're crazy if you don't buy (or like) these."
2. The elitist collector: Might just collect hype pairs, rare pairs, OGs, Jordan I-XIV, might be damn near all of them but they usually have a lot of sneakers (let's say 100+ pairs ) have been seeing exclusively through that scope, they might be lost in their own echo chamber for so long and simply can't wrap their head around someone not wanting a pair with the color way inspired by Phil Knight's favorite tie.
I think those two profiles describe a lot of people I've seen in both my comments and others too when scrolling IG or YT.

No one likes anything anymore, so it's only desirable if someone else wants it first. Your rejection to someone without their own style or preference is probably closer to you snacking their credit card out their hand than you think.

There are tons of other sneaker fanatic pages you can visit and love. She's here for the GROWN-up sneaker folks. The ones with money that buy what we like and what we need. We are not on "autopilot" when it comes to buying shoes.
Or here's a fun fact, this isn't my job so I don't need to make content to survive like full time sneaker CZcamsrs who have to buy a able to do a review to earn income to pay bills.
