  • We had a couple fun surprises this week. I rarely see woodpeckers at the bird pond, but a female Red-bellied Woodpecker has decided that she's a water bird :-). She stopped by the pond several times this week and I managed to get one good clip of her enjoying some bath time. The other surprise was a Yellow-billed Cuckoo, a bird that I hear often but rarely see. This is the only the third time I've seen one visit the bird pond. They are really odd birds. Super slow moving and they have feet better suited to life in the trees than moving around on the ground.
We also have some nice Blue-headed Vireo and Bluebird clips this week, and, of course, some fun Tufted Titmouse clips. And a little Northern Parula stopped by for an extra long bath.
Thanks for watching! Stay safe out there and I'll see you next week!

The hot weather definitely brings them out to the pools.

The cuckoo reminds me a bit of a morning dove. Interesting to see one up close. And the goldfinches that I've been missing showed upđŸ€—!! An army of titmice couldn't deter that little one. Parulas are adorable. Looked like a busy week. Such a lovely place for the birds to find refreshment in the summer heat.
Thanks and have a good week.

The cuckoo’s feathers so look sort of like the mourning doves! It was a busy week. Hot dry weather always means lots of activity at the bird pond. It’s nice to see all the birds but I’d be perfectly happy to hear them singing in the rain instead. There’s supposed to be a front coming through mid-week with rain and cooler weather. Fingers crossed! Thanks for watching and have a great week!

The splashier vireos sure are fast! Woodpecker is thirsty too. Cuckoo is interesting. It has been such HOT weather. I have noticed different types of birds walk differently. Pigeons have their head movement and some birds hop and other birds seem to glide smoothly when they walk. I guess their feet are different. I enjoy watching the birds and your comments are great! Parula is cute too.

All the birds seem so thirsty. I wish we’d get some more rain and a break from the heat. I’ve noticed that too, about how different birds move around. My favorites are the little sparrows that hop around on the ground. So cute. Thanks for watching and commenting! I appreciate it 🙂

The Cuckoo was awesome to see. I had to stop feeding birds because of my neighbor’s cat. I miss seeing them so I’m glad I have your channel to watch 😊

I’m sorry about the cat problem. That stinks. The Cuckoo was neat to see! I was visiting with a friend on Friday and completely bird-geeked out when I checked the Birdsy app and saw the Cuckoo. I may or may not have done a little dance 😄

The Cuckoo is definitely my most often hear but least often seen birds here. At least in the daytime category 🙂. There’s a Chuck-will’s-widow that calls at night and I doubt I’ll ever see one of those. Thanks for watching!

Yep! Some of their favorite flowers are nearby, so they’re often buzzing around :-)
