  • It's hot here in Tennessee. Highs in the 90s all last week. And dry too. Good weather for spending some time in the pool. I don't have one of those, but the birds here have several! lol. This week's video starts off with an unusual sighting at the bird pond - a White-breasted Nuthatch! The nuthatches are very common birds around here and I see them all the time, just not at the bird pond. They drink at the concrete baths and I've seen them get in the water at the woodland stream, but I think this is the first time I've seen one at the bird pond. We're starting to see more juvenile birds at the water features (at least I think they're juveniles) and a young Yellow-throated Warbler and Red-eyed Vireo made a fun pairing this week.
I hope everyone is staying cool where you are! Thanks for watching! Stay safe out there and I'll see you next week!

Thank you so much for sharing and also for the identification of each bird. I’ve got several books on birds, but your show helps me see them in action. I really enjoy your channel and look forward to seeing more.

Thank you! The ID labels are something I committed to doing from the beginning. I’m always glad to hear that they’re helpful. I try to wait a few seconds after the bird appears to put up the label so people can use the Sunday Shows to practice their ID skills 🙂

That's what a bird's life is like. Always having to watch out for something.

I love how the birds look a little bit like Rod Stewart after a bath 😁

I absolutely love your videos. And I truly appreciate that you label each of the visiting birds. 😊
You’ve inspired me to create my own setup like yours. I have a wonderful array of birds that frequent our yard. A bathing stream would be perfect for them!

    What's better than a funny titmouse taking a bath?...Two of them!! 😄!!
I still don't quite understand exactly what the vireos are doing. Are they just dunking themselves or do they also grab a quick gulp of water?
It just amazes me how much more you see of each birds personality at the water than at the feeders.
    Have a great week!! 🥰🌿♥️

When they get it right, the vireos are taking a very quick bath. They’ll skim the surface, dunking their head and doing a little twist to get wet. This week’s Yellow-throated Vireo seemed to be barely hitting the water or touching down briefly on the edge. Maybe a young bird learning how to do the splash and go 🙂 Love the titmice! Thanks for watching and have a great week!

The vireo is SO FAST! Amazing! I usually can recognize the tufted titmouses most of the time, but I rarely am correct on the other birds. When the female cardinal appeared. i was like, that looks like a female cardinal. We have a lot of cardinals in our yard and the beak color looked a bit familiar. I live in Alabama so I know the weather is very hot and it is especially nice to see the birds get to cool down and have a drink! The cardinal is large and might enjoy a deeper pond but he is probably so hot that he is just delighted to find your pond.

I love those vireos. They’re fun to watch. You’ll learn to recognize more of the birds. It just takes time. Thanks for watching!

    Somehow I missed this previously!
The last few moments were especially 😮divine.
Is that a vireo calling in the background while the bluebirds had the pond?

I pretty sure that was a Vireo but I’m not sure which one. I’m still learning bird calls. This summer, the Merlin app often told me that what I thought was a Red-eyed Vireo was a Blue-headed Vireo. I hope, with practice, I’ll eventually be able to tell the difference.
