The attachment point between the boom and the mast is called the gooseneck, second of all the proper term for pulleys is blocks and ropes are called lines, sheets, halyards
Hammered that into us in ASA. “A rope is what a line is made out of, once it has a purpose it’s a line” lol
I'm enjoying watching this. You remind me of myself when I was an impatient youngster making mistakes along the way and learning things the hard way. It's good to learn these things when you're young. You've done a pretty good job though for your first time using a lot of these materials on a fairly big project.
The build is not perfect by any means but I've learned a lot. It's been one hell of a ride. I still have some work to finished but I can't wait to get her in the water!
Good to see the young ones getting into this project, do a little research on the rigging, I think the loading on those deck fittings will be too much and rip them out of the deck, check to see if you need chain plates which bolt to the side of the hull, also as someone else mentioned, you will most likely need back stays coming from the stern from the Port and Starboard sides as the first decent gust of wind will tear the mast down.
Burgers and tacos are my favorite 😋
Nice! Your name has been added to the list!
Hi my name's Rodrigo, great to see your progress through. My boat's name is Liberdade, and my favorite food onboard is fresh fish :) yes! Thanks for sharing with us
Thanks for your comment! Your name has been added to the list!
I think you may come to regret using U bolts to attach the stay an back shrouds to th boat. The nuts may pull through the deck, or they may pull the deck off the boat. On most sailboats, back shrouds and fore stays attach to strips of metal that are bolted to the hull. These are called "chain plates".
They usually have three or more bolts each.
I know. I’ve been sailing on a Catalina 36 multiple times and since it has heavy duty, marine grade U-bolts, I though the ones I used would suffice. Read other comments though, I’m definitely going to switch to chain plaits. Thanks for your comment!
Another boat!!!!!!!!!! Awesome
Coming along quite nicely Jack. Can't wait to see her on the water.
I love how you just pushed that metal rod into oblivion 🤣
Looks good! I love me some garden salads!

That boat serie is so cool man, i'm following it, hope everything works like you want!!!
I love these videos! Very inspirational for someone like me who never has build anything!
Sorry I haven’t posted in a while but more are on their way!
Looking good
Thank you!
Love this video. "Hold Fast" Favorite food sauerkraut and wieners w/mashed potatoes .
Thanks! Your name has been added to the list.
Great work again
Thank you so much!
Spicy tuna rolls😤
That sounds pretty good right now! Your name has been added to the list!
Heck yeah dude I love it! I just built a stitch and glue plywood fiberglass sailing dinghy. I know it’s a lot of work and the finishing work will take the longest if you let it
Looking good. Needs a boom vang to keep the boom/sail tight
My favourite food is definitely burritos. it's really inspiring seeing someone build a boat in what seems like such a casual manner. very cool stuff
TACO BUILT BOAT !
Thank you! I just added your name to the list.
Hell yeah brother
First I’m so excited you rock Jack
Thank you!

Are you here stealing ideas? 😝
Nice! Your name has been added to the list!
If you havent shortened the boom yet, you can just shorten the other end with the doo hickey mobobba so you can get the piece out easy, just drill the pop rivet heads out and push them through and the end cap pulls out... chilli mud crab with garlic butter..
significant progress, the pounds per square inch of pull or torque, unless supported from the underside of all of your anchoring locations will pull through the thin ply hull, but I'm sure you have contemplated those potential fails, good stuff
Very creative, but a Backstay or two wouldn't hurt.. also you want at least 12 millimetre thick timber pads under all the deck fittings and bolt them through.
I'm shure this video will make this evining nice
I hope that it did. Thanks for your comment!
that's so cool!
Thank you!
Great job boys……
Thank you!
Floutas! 🎉😂❤
hi jack, I'm from the Philippines and a fan of yours. I always go to your channel and stalk if there's a new episode with your sailboat build
Thanks for being interested. Sorry I haven't uploaded in a while but I'm currently editing ep. 8 for the boat build. It should be coming out soon.
@@JackWood25 thanks for the update, I will definitely wait for it. I'm coming up with a plan to also build a dinghy, but I don't know where to start
Keep up the good videos👍 Also i love BBQ chicken wings

You going great waiting for the next episode. I wonder how long it took you to get to this stage. I mean just how long do you think it might take you to deal with the project?
Nice job.
Thank you!
Love your videos how do you think it will take for it to be fully done?
At the rate I’m going, only working on weekends because of school, I think I’ll be able to fully finish her around Christmas. She’ll definitely be able to float in a few weeks though.
Can't wait for the paint, love chicken wings!
Your name has been added to the list!
that lil carmel jawn yahmaan
Don’t you need to have a backstay as well? How will that fit, seem the boom is a bit long for a straight line between the masthead and the transom?
I agree and would suggest a split backstay. Should work nicely with your setup. Rethinking this, would help definitely with tiller but not as much with boom being too long.
For a rig this size, he only needs to place the shrouds 18" or so, aft of the mast and no back stays are needed. Backstays are more for adjusting sail shape than structure. One rarely sees them on rigs of this size.
@@yabojabo8578 Great answer, I didn't know. I thought it was to keep tension opposite to the forstay. Will the 18" aft of the mast not give way when in a good run and all the wind pulling the mast forward? I have only sailed boats with a backstay, even on boats smaller than this. On the other hand have I never sailed a boat with a mast bolted to a bulkhead like this. I hope it will work, it's a fun challenge to follow, keep up the good work!
@@yabojabo8578 I totally agree with you. This is how our Chrysler pirateer is rigged. It has a hinged mast with forestay and shrouds rigged behind mast, no backstay. He’s doing a great job, can’t wait to see his boat sailing.
Without any backing plates on the inside, those u-bolts are going to rip right out, I suspect. Even better than u-bolts and backing plates though, would be some proper chain plates.
I know, I'm going to add reinforcements on the interior to these u-bolts. I tried to replicate my grandfather's old Catalina 36 regarding the mast rigging. In the future if it doesn't hold up or I don't like it, I'll switch to some chain plates.
Would be interesting to know how good it sails! ...
Hi, I don't know if the build plan you are using does provide detailed rig configuration, but you may want to look at rig ( mast, should & stay ) of production boats.
Mistral 16 Cabin or West Wight Potter 15 look like somewhat similar boat to your.
As others mentioned, U-bold screwed thought the thin ply deck may not be up to the tack while sailing.
Stay placements, both on the deck ( rear swipe to replace the back stay ) and on the mast ( top mounted stay without intermediate stay or spreader ) may need to be fully evaluated.
By looking at production boat, you will have some sense of what does work for others, avoiding ‘issues’ during sailing down the line.
I wonder if your boat will have ballast ( internal or external ) and does it will have a centerboard or keel?
Keep posting.
If I ever buy a sailboat and sail around the world, I would want this dude to be my shipwright. I mean the dude is named Jack WOOD. I repeat WOOD. couldnt have a better name.
Looks like you’re doing a great job. Thought I would comment on your track. If you want it to slide more smoothly apply some melted bees wax.
Thanks for your comment. My friend Sean and I were actually talking about adding some wax but we didn't know what type.
Hi Jack.... very impressive work with your boat, and maybe you have had this before - haven't read all the comments, but will you not need a keel on this boat? to counteract the forces imposed on the mast and sails? just a thought... pardon me not being a native English speaker, and pardon any wrong spelling / grammar.... I have to say I'm very impressed with your attitude towards new projects...
Thanks for your comment. Your English was quite good and easy for me to read. Regarding the boat, I am going to add a fixed, fin keel with weights inside to counter the ones acting on the sail.
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE EWE TAKE DOWN THE COLORADO RIVER !
Favorite food is sushi!
Love me some sushi! Your name has been added to the list!
What's up bro? You finishing it? You really got me in suspense......
Sorry bro. School really got in the way of any major boat work. Although, I'm almost done editing the new boat vid and it should be coming out in the next few days. Thanks for being this patient.
Do you have any reinforcement on the underside of your U-Bolts?
Yes. since posting this video, things have changed and I'm going to switch to chain plates.
My favorite food would have to be Mac and cheese
Niceee! Your name has been added to the list!
I love your project, but please swap out the u bolts for chain plates bolted thru the sides. The u bolts will pull thru the deck, especially if there aren't any backing plates on the inside. If you place the chain plates 18 inches or so, aft of the mast, you won't need a backstay. 6" square x 1/8" thick SS backing plates on the inside may also be enough to hold the shrouds but IMO, chain plates are the way to go. Rigging strength is 2nd only to hull strength.
How is your yacht build going? It should be coming on well.
It is coming together very well. The next vid should be coming out within the next few days.
Any updates on the yacht lately. Pretty keen to see it progress.
Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. I just completed finials for school and haven’t been able to complete anything. Since I’m on Christmas break though, I’m going to try and get some more work done with her.
Woah who’s the other person helping you, he looks like such a cool guy!
I know right. U should sub to his channel
I'm curious, how long did it take in total and how much did the materials cost?
Thanks for asking. When I'm fully completed with the boat, I'll make a separate video regarding your questions.
Hey Jack so is this the last video on this. I only ask because I would love to be able to see this boat on the water.
This is by far not the last video. I know I'm responding pretty late but more should be on their way.
Do you have any plans on getting a head sail
I do have plans on getting a jib but that'll be for a future vid.
I see that makes sense can’t wait!!!
Hey bro really cool boat, how much did it cost to build until now?
Once the boat is completely finished, I'm going to make a Q&A vid and I'll answers all and any questions that I get. The total cost of the boat will be included.

It's kind of odd your saying you don't care so many times but if that were the case the boat will never get done ! I also understand why you said This is the way i'm doing it , my way ! CZcams brings out the best and worse in people so take the comments with a grain of salt and don't let them bother you ! You did it your way so now lets see if it worked by not sinking , right !
when does episode 8 release?
I’m sorry, school has really screwed me over regarding episode 8. I’m working on it though. Thanks for being this patient!
Are you planning on a back stay?
Yes. I'm trying to figure something out but the boom is currently in the way.
Pizza is my favorite food

Hey this is gonna keep going right? Id hate to think it just ends so close to the finish line
I am. School really got in the way of any major progress. Although, I’m currently painting the inside and filming the next vid. It should be coming out soon!
Why no new videos? Is the project on hold?
It was on hold due to school but since summer started, that's all I'm working on. The next vid should be coming out in a few days.

As of right now, I have no clue. Hopefully she will in July.
been a while since you released a video... any news?
Sorry for the long wait. I appreciate your patience. So far, the next boat vid is almost complete. I just need to add some final touches. It should be coming out within the next few days.
first paint then fittings
I didn't end up like the rigging so I'm going to start over. Since posting this vid, the deck paint has been added.
You need chain plates down the side of the hull to attach the Schrouds/stays. You will most likely regret using u bolts. Excellent work otherwise. 👏
The U-bolts will be changed. Thanks for your comment!

When is the next episode coming
It is coming out this Saturday, sorry for the long wait
Hi again. I know I said a few days ago that the new boat vid is coming out on Saturday but it may be pushed back another day or two. I'm having some difficulties with my editing platform but I'm working on it right now. Thanks for being this patient.
@@JackWood25 its fine dude
your mask will break off in strong wind since the support is just fixed to the roof. The mask should go down into the boat and another fixing point to the bottom (Inside) of the boat..
I know. Due to the type of mast that I have and the placement of the gooseneck for the boom attachment, it would not work if the mast traveled down to the bottom of the boat. Since posting this video, my plans for the rigging have changed, and I think she'll handle 15 knots. If not, I'll redesign the mast and its support.
update?
Sorry for the long wait. I really appreciate your patience. I'm almost done editing the next boat vid. It should be coming out in a few days.
Wraps
Hey ...are you ever going to finish the boat? Asking for a friend
Sorry it’s been taking this long. School sort of took over. I’ve got more time now and I’m currently editing ep.8, which should come out soon. Thanks for being this patient
@@JackWood25 thanks for the update
For another update, I've had some problems with my editing software. The boat vid is almost complete, I just need to add some final touches. It should be coming out in a few days.
How are you doing

I cringed so hard watching him hacksaw the shroud line on your fiberglass job. What happened to the angle grinder? wouldn't it go through like butter?
Unfortunately, my dad took the angle grinder and I didn't have it on hand. It would have made cutting the wire 10 times easier.
