    I have just had a phone call from my GP to say my recent full blood count came back showing I was low in folate and could I take an ‘over-the-counter’ folate supplement. When I googled it I had ALL of the symptoms. Of course I immediately searched CZcams ’Dr Ken Berry Folate deficiency’ 🤣❤️🇬🇧. I knew you would have great advise on this. 🙌🏻😘

      Yeah, Ive been keto for years and more recently carnivore. Although my diet is high in b12 & b9, my body just doesn't use it. He has me on 1mg of folic acid and I get b12 shots every month. My labs are normal now. I don't know why my body doesn't use the delicious food nutrients but it does use the supplements??? Anyway, my doctor's answer is that this is common for white women of a certain age.

  • @matthewalexandersayers4470

    You need folate as primarily L-5-MTHF. If you get it as folic acid, the folic acid has to go through about 5 different enzymatic reactions to be metabolised to methylfolate, SNP's can affect anyone of these enzymes and reduce their efficiency to convert the folic acid in active folate.

  • @24carrotgold8
    @24carrotgold8 Před 2 lety +2

    I use the Chronometer App to track my nutrition. In spite of the meat, cheese, eggs and salmon I eat, I could not get my folate up. I remembered I had some Thorne Methyl Guard and added the dose to the App and it exceeded my folate and B12 daily requirements. I am using ketosis and nutrition to enhance chemotherapy and mitigate side effects by applying principles of metabolic flexibility. Folate is helping me rebuild my red blood cells. 🤗👍🥳

    Greetings Ken, first let me tell you that you have been instrumental part of my KETO, Carnivore journey. I wanted to get a message to you and I’m not sure how other than sending this. So for those reading this do not interpret it as anything more than “information”. I love what Ken does and recently his lovely bride... ok... so here’s the message. I recently purchase Keto Chow Daily Minerals and I know you’re not the company but just wanted someone to know that on the bottle it states the serving size as 1 tbsp. But in the write up on the back label, it says 1 teaspoon. Just a type-O. But thought since your face is on the label you might be able to correct that before some poor dude gets a double shot of minerals! : ). That’s it... love you guys and hope you can continue to change the world - 1 SAD eating person at a time... TY

    Hey, Dr. Berry! Love your videos! I would like to suggest a video for the MTHFR gene mutation. I happen to have the TT version of mutation. I did not even know anything about this until about a year ago. I took Trileptal for approximately 3 months and got mouth sores to the bone. The dentist told me to return to my prescribing Dr office. The prescriber did a DNA test and sure enough I have the MTHFR gene mutation expressed as TT. I do not process folate well. I was told by that Dr office to take folic acid supplements. Doing research on my own, I found out I need methyl folate for this. Also, one of my twins, has spina bifida occulta which is not severe but she has always complained of her back hurting. Wish I knew all about this before getting pregnant almost 20 years ago! All the folic acid in the world would not have fixed the problem with my daughter.

    Hey Doc! I’m looking at my nutritional yeast (Bragg) container and the nutri fact label says it has 540mcg of “Folate” per 9g serving. Can I add this to the list or is it just “fake folic acid” but not specifying?

    • @sappir26
      @sappir26 Před 2 lety +1

      The problem with nutritional yeast is that it's usually enhanced with synthetic vitamins so you need to make sure that you get one without any synthetic additives. I personally take Brewer's yeast which is all natural or a couple teaspoons of flax seed.

      You can also dice it up and add it to soup or ground meat.

      I took a gradual path. I started integrating liver, which I hated, by having my butcher mix in 1 lb of calf liver into 4 lbs of ground beef. I froze it in 1 lb portions and used in keto recipes that called for ground beef. Then I made Dr. Berry’s mustard sauce dip as a steak condiment. Next was my mom’s recipe for (calf) liver and onions, which was fried in bacon fat, and also included bacon. Lastly, I tried Neisha’s pâté recipe and have never looked back! You can do it! Good luck!

      Dr. Berry Would say this (1) check the carbs. (2) make sure it doesn't have many other factory chemicals in it. and (3) everyone is different. If it doesn't spike your blood sugar, then you are fine. You can check your blood sugar with some meter.
