- By treaty dated 23 December 1865 France, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland formed the Latin Monetary Union. They agreed to a combined gold and silver standard with a gold-to-silver ratio of 15.5 to 1 as established in the French Franc. One LMU Franc represented 4.5 grams of fine silver or 0.290322 gram of fine gold. Following the International Monetary Conference of 1867, the original four nations were joined by Greece, Spain and Romania. Other states later adopted the system without formally joining the treaty.

Learned much and fantastic collection, well done, thanks
The Swiss 20 Franc is my all time favorite. The others are nice as well but they can't beat the swiss in design.
Tha Helvetia (Vreneli) is a really beautiful classic design. Thanks for watching.
Mine is Napolean 3rd. 20 Francs.

Awesome
The United States at one point thought about joining the Latin Monetary Union before Congress rejected the plan. The U.S. Mint produced several hundred pattern gold coins called “Stellas” with a face value equivalent to the exchange value of the gold 20 franc coin: $4.
Oh, I didn't know that! Thank you for telling me.
Thanks for sharing this nice set
Glad you like it
I think that's the first time I've seen Arabic writing on gold. fantastic. Thanks!
Thanks for watching, glad you liked it.
There are also 1950 and 1951 Arabic Guinea Gold Coins... they're very beatiful. Check them out.
This is awesome, thanks for showing as I have no gold of any countries in the union. Also who composed the music? I love it.
Thanks for watching. The music is Triumphant Return by Audionautix.
The Swiss design is near perfect

While a nice video, both the tunsian gold and the Russian gold were not latin monetary designated.Convertible yes,and the German Marks convertible but not specific to the Lmu.Bismark and the Prussian ,Bavarian and the Hamburg government all agreed to an Imperial system of German states coins internally to Germany as 1 country....not a collection of 36 states, principalities and citie
