There will be a follow up video about the LMU that I am working on.
Pickupes up a few over the years but these are hard to find at Canadian and US dealers I’ve checked. They are so interesting and I love that I can handle them, unlike modern Maples etc we want to keep fingerprints off and which are softer and more prone to damage.
A lot of people dont like the fact I handle my coins but the reality is they have been handled many many times over. These coins have real history and I will buy most world coins if I can buy for the right price.
Fascinating, great to learn something new, those are very nice coins.
Glad you enjoyed it
Very interesting, keep it going! The Rooster and Helvetia are my favs
Thank you - Both are solid designs. Cant go wrong with the swiss miss.
Another big problem was the relative value of silver to gold fluctuated, and the union was actually formed right before the end of a period of silver having high relative value; when the value plummeted, the minting of silver coins became so unprofitable that the union had to stop minting silver coins all together
thank you for the contributing :)
Thanks an interesting video, did not know about the LMU. Lovely coins. Will be interesting to see how the Belgian grades, it was a beauty.
Id say 66 and up but I have a bad track record for trading I wont lie.
Excellent collection! I always love your vlogs. This inspires me to start my vintage European gold coins. I am planning to get the French Rooster first.
Yeah, France brought back sound money with Napoleon I. And he conquered most of Italy, so they were making similar format coins, even Italian coins with his image for a time.
Its not a part of history that I have covered myself, I am trying to bring myself up to speed on coin History but its very vast!
Shaun Oliver I’m no expert myself, but I can see much that was spreading within the French Empire. You’ve probably read “Fiat Inflation in France” by Andrew White -A treasure of knowledge from that time and in general. Light reading and free copyright.😄
Very interesting video. With the current parallels between the lmu and the eu, its shows agaim how history always repeats itself.
There are certainly issues that keep coming up. Funny how Italians havnt changed in terms of their spending habits. I wonder if cultural habits like this stay the same for all nations.
Interesting point. I think major events happen that shape a nations habits. For instance. The average German house hold is supposed have 100gs of gold stashed away. A direct result of the weimar infection. Maybe nothing so foul has befallen the Italians.... or at least in living memory?
@@Gravs.88 Id be happy to look into it. Truth is I dont know.
An interesting subject for sure 👍
Those are my favorite coins. Many other countrys produced coins with the same specifications. There are more than 60 different ones if i remember right. About 54 different types in my latest video. Looking forward to your follow up video.
I learn something new most days when dealing with coins, I didnt know it stretched that far but I am not shocked as I knew Latin America adopted some of the practices.
Great video I love the gold coins of the LMU, they are great for collecting and stacking. My favorite size are the 20 Francs coins.
They are often overlooked in the UK, Im not sure why as they can be bought for reasonable prices. There is a fascinating history behind them that again is overlooked.
Best design for me is the French Rooster. Maryanne looks cute and the rooster is a good size to see. How many other countries have a Rooster on their coin ? I would probably like the Angel better if the Angel was larger to see but then you would need a bigger coin, California Tax and no more coin shows has caught up to me on purchases these days though I would like some close to spot 2 peso pieces in my pocket.
I like the Rooster myself, prefer the Angel but I wouldnt down a good Rooster, as for how many other coins I dont know on that one lol. I keep hearing of California Tax law, sounds like a massive government con! As for the 2 peso coin I sell for around 10 pound over spot and Im still the cheapest (that I know of) in the UK, I pay over spot for mine myself.
Very interesting, and the coins are gorgeous! It's nice to have some examples of the "originals". Having been taught Latin by the Jesuits, I still flinch whenever I hear or see the word! LOL.. I'm waiting for my first Mexican 2.5 pesos coin and it has a lot of history that I'm looking forward to learning about. It has the bust of a Jesuit - taught priest, Miguel Hidalgo, (leader of the Mexican revolution) on the obverse. Those pesky Jesuits started a lot of trouble when they weren't terrifying students who were lazy - like moi! In Castro's biography he proudly declared, "Everything I am I owe to the Jesuits!" LOL...
LOL - Youve lived an interesting life :D
