Rockcrawling the Isham Canyon Trail - Ultimate Adventure 2016

- Part 1 of Ultimate Adventure 2016. It’s the often-copied, never-duplicated extreme off-roading adventure trip that started it all. Take a big group of extreme off-road rigs, a gang of crazy sleep-deprived dirt junkies, and a week-long diet of hardcore trails, brutal road days, and no trailers allowed and you’ve got Petersen’s 4 Wheel & Off-Road’s Ultimate Adventure. For this, the 17th Ultimate Adventure, we gathered our usual cast of characters, including some lucky invited 4-Wheel & Off-Road readers, aftermarket advertisers who sponsor the Ultimate Adventure, our support crew of cronies, and the magazine staff and headed to the high desert of California to begin what would be one of the most epically scenic and technically challenging UAs to date. As usual, UA2016 ticked all the boxes like long-distance road driving, hardcore wheeling, camping, exploring, comradery, vehicular failure and trailside repair, and just plain seeking adventure for which the UA has become well known. This year we’re skipping video of the boring tech inspection and check-in process so we can dive right into our first trail day of hardcore rockcrawling in 120-degree desert heat. We gathered in our hotel parking lot in Ridgecrest, California, before caravanning northeast to the Isham Canyon Trail. For more action, videos, pictures check out www.4wor-ua.com.

"I am driving the SPONSOR(tm) with the SPONSOR(r) winch and the SPONSOR(c) recovery rope and the SPONSOR(tm) suspension!" Got some real natural commentary there, guys. Totally seamless.
Stoked it was that dudes first time reading!
@1:45 _"I'm a small tire guy."_ They're considered a large tire over here lol.
Charmin is the official toilet paper of Ultimate Adventure for those common 'Oh shittt' moments......
Finally! A MT video with out hearing about MTOD.
Rick pewe made it a lot more interesting. I knew it wasn't the same when I didn't hear him yelling "drivers meeting!" in the intro
Yea
I can tell already that this is gonna be a very relaxing UA this year. And I love that
Why is Fred not the narrator? This guys like listing to a Sunday morning AM radio station host
Every one is saying boring if your an actual off road guy you will like this type of content
rick pewe will be missed we need a jeep adventure
Street N Jeep
He just did one with David Freiburger a couple of weeks ago. we should see that adventure soon!
Bob i meant like a jeep only UA but the uncle fester jeep will be a good one
what happened to Rick?
R 3rd hes the jp magazine editor and chief not 4 wheel offroad
I am soooooooo looking foward to the future episodes!!!!
Awesome! awesome! Wish we had something like this in the UK. Amazing technicality
kinda sad not seeing Pewe this year!
Did he retire?
COLTERGEIST yeah what happened to him?
EDDIE KRISTOFFERSON I think he's the editor of JP Magazine now, and had somewhere to be during UA2016.
really like the extended coverage this year!
I was expecting to hear Pewe yell "Driver's Meeting!!!!"
Great to see another Floridian Keller wheelin!
Can't wait for part 2 👍👍
No Samurai? Where is Tim?!?!?
awesome adventure...filming and fun...Great!!!
Really enjoyed these videos!!!!
Looks like an amazing experience
Was this a rock crawling video or a commercial? Brawndo came on board this year as the official energy drink of the Ultimate Adventure. It has what plants crave!
Great wheelin guys
The guy with scratched red Jeep was like oh it’s ok it ads character meanwhile he was probably crying inside
Anyone other than me think that the Hilux looked quite cool
Anything looks better than all those Jeeps.
inserstnamehere I did, teased me in the thumbnail and only got to see it for a few seconds. I'd like to see more of the wheeling, less short clips.
inserstnamehere I did
Click bait for sure. and it probably wasn't using any of the "sponsored" equipment... and since this was basically a commercial no spotlight for the tough little truck that easily kept up with the bigger bulkier, slower vehicles.
Can't wait to have my "Hilux SUrf" Diesel all built and on the road (95 4Runner SFA/OME suspension all around, 1KZ Diesel/Cable-lockers/running 33" BFG AT's for street/Overland work and 35's for real trail work)... Toyota has really dropped the ball lately with the "new" (and lame) Taco, with it;s Atkins V6 and the 70-series Colors plus that awful grill... but I keep hoping they'll pull their heads out and show Jeep how to make a real 4wd and bring at least the Hilux over if not the 70-series. I had two LP Turbo'd HJ75's in Australia, one Ute, one Troupie, and I was so sad to leave them there on the Station when I came back to the States... The 1KZ Surf will be awesome but I;d still kill to have a proper 12HT powered 76 Quad-cab Ute here in the NW... that would be my "lifer" truck and it'd still be on the rotting in scrap-yards across the country...
This felt more like a product advertisement then an adventure video.
they should do an Alaskan version of this. Up in the mountains with snow, ice and mud.
YES 2016 UA IS HERE!
I want to see more of that hilux! It's been a while since I've seen one.
I was waiting on this.
It seems like it would be a lot faster just to hike it.
Have fun hiking with 200 pounds of equipment.
pretty sure you don't understand backpacking.
fuzzy wuzzy Wot? U mad m8?
well that escalated quickly
It would also be faster to drive on a highway. I'm all for hiking but I think you are missing the point of an off roading adventure
Were there no sponsors? Or did I miss something...?
Was that a keg on that Willey? Most important vehicle on the trip! Excellent video! All great rides....👍
13:27 to skip the ads
WAY TO GO GUYS.
I miss Rick but I guess I'd like Fred to be the new leader if Rick can't be there
that looked like lots of fun
All these aftermarket led headlights are cancer.
You've obviously never seen them on the roads then. They're worse than those AIDS hid bulbs in factory reflector housings!
+elesjuan mine are 129 dollar units, and the low beam is completely safe and what I would call a bit dimm
Pretty sure op meant the halos, not the led headlight bulb.
My trucklite led headlights are one of my favorite upgrades I have done to my 06 LJ so far. Well that and my 60 axles with 38's.
***** If they're not DOT approved they shouldn't be used on roadways. Period. I'd guarantee they still blind the crap out of oncoming traffic just like HID bulbs in reflector housings.
Crawler, crawler, jeep, jeep, jeep, jeep, crawler.... BONE STOCK Tahoe.
AimlessMoto all i see is a chevy hd, but the new tahoes are actually really good offroad. Obviously it can't do this, but it is very impressive.
i missed it where is the tahoe
"...the new tahoes are actually really good offroad" HAHAHAHAHAH WO was that a fucking stupid statement. By "offroad" do you mean a gravel road or a flat field that's 100% dry cause that's about the upper limit of a Tahoe's "off-road" prowess... FUcking GM fans, are you all this dumb??? Must be... you're supporting modern GM products aka some of the most garbage vehicles in history.
Dee-Bee Kooper wow you got angry about that pretty fast... how is he supporting gm?
Are you mistaking the WJ for a stock Tahoe? If you did that's hilarious.
What motor is in the Wrangler @3:15? Sounds sick!! Hemi?
That 71' k30 is my dream truck
Who were the sponsors for this one? I don't think they'll be happy with the lack of coverage.
Crazy trail!
Just did my first 4x4 adventure in 6 or 7 years yesterday. My wife came along. I don't think she liked it at all.
OutlawUniverse
When dragging dif over rock that grinding noise is not a good time to look at her and say "your pu$$ is next"! See u in Valhalla.
After seeing this, I think I need a little more lift, and a BUNCH more under armor. 😂👌
I'd love to see a build overview of that 03 Grand Cherokee... I have that same truck and have been wondering what I want to do off-road wise to it.
Also, what's the allure of taking really expensive rigs and smashing them into rocks?
My Jeep J10 is from Trona :) Lived there at the borax plant its whole life until I bought it.
Every year I pray to God that the ultimate adventure would come to my town, and this year they finally did it. It's too bad I join the military and missed out on all the fun.
let's see more of that hilux!
Lotta diversity in the off-road truck world LoL, just noticed that on the last introduction.
Nice video :)
Well that was a pleasant surprise
too many ads
That's what UA is. Big commercial for all the big sponsors.
this video should be longerrrrr
Sam is enjoying the trail, thanks to bubba rope, shell fuels, nissan, ford, tesco, jeep, apple, windows, bridge stone, pirelli, red line oils, LKQ paints, sparco seats, Mr glass, evian water, rain x, easy jet, starbucks coffee, 24/7 stores, rockstar games, t mobile and amazon.
Fred Williams is our hero
This year for UA, here is our sponsors, we'll throw in minimal clips of rock crawling. Bubba rope.
Feels like i already watched this
So, they are now putting out feature-length commercials?
Ultimate Adventure seemed really dull this year. No new project vehicle, different narrator, no Rick Pewe. No one sounds excited.
Tommy Gazelle it's gotten to where it's all sponsors, 3 readers ? really?
yeah they ruined it... just how they ruined cheap truck challenge....
Are they doing a sema 2016 drag race I know it's unrelated to the video it's just they normally come out about this time of year and I'm curious.
That trail should be called "The Smasher" for the amount of damage inflicted to the vehicles that took it.
i was waiting for the OFFICIAL toilet paper sponsor
All those solid axle's...
Jon Hagan solid is better
not a fan without pewe........
it's like one giant infomercial
sponsor fest 2016. boring.
Ultimate sponsor mania! At least it was enjoyable.
You think this shit happens with some magical invisible money? Without sponsors, this content wouldn't exist.
I understand they need sponsors, but all this video was is plugs for them. They also need to include more readers in my opinion.
That very goods ,is nice
Not the same with out hearing Rick Pewe on the videos, and Tim in his old Zuke ...
"DRIVER'S MEETING!!!"
The guys from roadkill should do a junkyard rescue competition
boring no rick and no new project vehicle
I know right? where the fuck is the new build??? and where is Rick Pewe
thomas tessier it probably gets a little pricey to build a 100k rig every single year that is only used once and does the exact same thing as the one from last year
thomas tessier on top of just using 3 past project truck not even Fred made this video any fun
18 participants, 14 of them are jeeps. how about some variety
There really isn't a lot of after market support for doing this kind of thing outside of Jeeps and K5s.
You're kidding me right^ None of these guys have some dinky bolt on gear, these are all highly customized and there's thousands of rigs that aren't Jeep based that are built just as much/more.
I'm surprised there was like only two minivan jeeps.. Those garbage jk unlimiteds. They're the ricers of the Jeep world.
im proud owner of a tj sport 6in long arm lift and 33 for crazy articulation, I drove the mw3/Moab edition and it couldn't do what my tj does in two wheel. DEATH TO THE JK
I'm a 2 door JK owner and prefer the 2 door, but the 4 door is a very capable rig even more capable than the 2 door in some ways especially when climbing very steep obstacles when wheelbase is your friend and it stops you from flipping backwards.
7:41 I want a bumper like that for my 93 K5 (OBS K1500 Blazer) I already have done a Dana 60 swap with help from Off Road Design. Great company, great products, great customer service!
AKA: the Tan blazer in my profile picture (before the Dana60 front and rear swap)
wow im early lol
Puting DeLand on the map hell yah
So where's Pewe?
Oh, and a WJ in UA...always +1.
Polar Wolf I'm guessing he isn't working there anymore
He runs Jp Magazine now.
He got sacked
goals
that's how we'd love to do in Utah
Where is Tim Hardy?!
I was hoping for Rick Pewe's " DRIVERS MEETING!!!!". Love the video. The new guys voice is boring. Would rather listen to Fred Williams.
boncel
apik tenan vidione
Badass
13 min ?
What happened to Rick pewe leading the UA ?
Might be a stupid question, but can anybody tell me why they are using mud terrain tires vs all terrains?
Who let this guy narrate?
yay
The sponsor this sponsor that just killed the video. Next up is rocks, the official obstacles of UA16 0_o
Rubitrux has gotta get in on this
Joe Katama currents is an amazing album
Oscar Castro agreed
there are 18 rigs this year, 20 of them are jeeps
Beaudoin Motorsports
Who pays the bills ...
Talking about offroading, what happened to Top Truck Challenge?
Murcia!
cool
i would do anything to go on this
Gotta love the tj's but does anyone actually like skyjacker? Just curious
sounds like a terrible day, 120f, dusty, waiting for hours as other trucks get fixed and yanked out of terrible places. just seems like there would be a better time of year to go play in the desert.
Wonder how would stock G-wagen 6x6 do.
where is Rik P?
Weird, no Rick and I noticed Fred Williams has been moved as well. He went from tech editor to editor and chief when Rick was promoted and now he is Editor at large and Christian Hazel is now editor and chief. Lots of shuffling around.
I wonder if Fred was feeling swamped with the position as he also has his Dirt Everyday show to do. In any event editor at large sounds like a good position, probably get to be outside the office more than in.
No Rick Pewe :(
XbriDe Calvin very disappointed
