  • Sometimes the tongue can fall back and block your breathing causing sleep apnoea and snoring. In this video I describe the different operations that are performed on the tongue base (and lingual tonsil), that would allow people with OSA to breathe better.

    Hi Dr. Vik veer I got the radiofrequency ablation on my tongue one course as the doctor said the tongue is not too bog ,plus I got my turbines reduced with this aswell. I feel alot better now the last few months but I still need to fix my nose as I have a devine spetum, which you noticed when we meet last year . Hopefully when I get this fixed I be able to breath through my nose

    I cuddle a posable neck pillow (the ones they sell for airplane sleeping) while pressing it up under my chin to hold my mouth shut. It's hot for summer so I'm going to get a pool noodle and design something that way.
    But I do have obstructive sleep apnea and a cpap machine which is working wonders.

      Another brilliant video Dr Veer, particularly pertinent to me. I live in Wales so sadly don’t qualify for your drug induced sleep endoscopy on the NHS but I did get an ENT surgeon stick a camera up my nose to see if there were any obvious physical causes for my sleep apnea. The only thing he could find was a bulky tongue (I think the medical term is ‘’big fat tongue syndrome”). And indeed my apnea feels like it’s from my tongue blocking things. I’m not overweight (but perhaps I could lose a stone) but does dieting reduce tongue size? I’m prepared to go skeletal if it would help. If not my only option is one of the procedures you described.

      Just bought the Knightsbridge chin strap and was excited to try it, setting a snoring app before sleep......only to find my snoring was worse with it than that on other recent recordings - such a disappointment, as it was secured quite tightly.

    9:31 When does Inspire stimulate the hypoglossal nerve? Is it only when the airway is blocked, or every single time you try to take a breath overnight?

    Doctor, I’m 23M medical student from Nepal with AHI= 6.3, ODI(3%)= 11.5 and BMI= 21, but my symptoms are quite severe with fatigue, brainfog, hairloss,etc. This started after i had bad sleep routine for about 6 months in 2021. ENT doctor at my hospital didn’t recommend me any treatment beside tongue exercises. And it doesn’t seem to improve my sleep. Which treatment modality would be better for me. Is going for CPAP good for my age? Thank you doctor!

      How big are your tonsils? Dr. Veer has mentioned previously that if your tonsils are so large that they’re blocking your airway (grade 3 or grade 4), it probably makes sense to have your tonsils removed. Then you can try PAP therapy if necessary.

    Can I use CPAP and MAD together with mild sleep apnea

    • @catallergiccat
      @catallergiccat Před 14 dny

      I tried for a couple of nights. MAD locked my jaw so I could use a full face mask without much leaks. I failed to use nasal mask in conjunction with the MAD, because it was impossible to close my mouth with such a big piece in it. I gave up MAD as it was too painful, and didn’t seem to help much.

    Have been on CPAP for a year and realised I was inveterate mouth breather. Learning the importance of mouth closed, now am aware and work on this all the time, including during the day. However, even with a soft cervical collar my mouth still opens. To use nasal mask must tape mouth. Some of us out here just cannot train out this life long habit - I know because I have and continue to try, but no success
