    I think the fact that I was genuinely surprised to see a Gears video in my subscription feed (aside from King Abz, who still regularly rocks it) says a lot. Most CZcamsrs in the scene have moved on or gone silent.
    There's nothing to talk about with regards to the franchise, aside from the Netflix announcement, which was more of a flash in the pan spark of discussion rather than something that led to long term discussion.
    Most players have moved on, and for the most part, the only ones that still play Gears 5 do so to grind the achievements.
    Despite the wealth of content, much of which is good, in my opinion, it's very stale. We've been playing the same game for 16 years. I respect how Gears 5 tried to change up the formula a bit, but even with all the changes, it still doesn't feel unique enough to still be playing this far after release.
    The new Tours of Duty is what kept me playing Gears 5. Each Operation added a suite of new content and updates, keeping things fresh. But with Operations being de facto cancelled, there isn't much reason to return to the game, aside from the coins, which can only unlock content from past updates.
    In regards to the skins, I'm mostly in agreement. Look at Gears 3. When you unlock Prescott, you feel like you earned it. Your hard work paid off, and when you see someone playing as him, you know they grinded for the skin. Now look at Gears 5. They added him to the game and you can purchase the skin for a couple thousand credits. No satisfaction. However, I will say that I very much enjoy seeing the amount of skins in the game, especially the lore-based skins.
    When it comes to "fun," I'm a bit conflicted. On the one hand, the gameplay is very smooth and feels punchy. But on the other hand, it's very stale and repetitive. I don't feel like I'm destroying enemies and completing objectives as much as I do just going through the motions. It's mindless. There's no thought involved, due to how much I've played.

    • @TacCom
      @TacCom  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, I really wonder if the whole "16 years of Gears" thing has just taken it's toll. I'm too "lazy" to really strive to get any better. And at this point, you're right, we're just going through the motions.
      I typically want some goal/objective to play towards, and I struggle to find that with G5. Everything is either mindlessly easy (unlocking skins), or a tedious grind (some achievements); there's no "challenge". Operations somewhat did that, but they're also only as effective while the game is actively supported.

    • @BananaBrainsZEF
      @BananaBrainsZEF Před rokem

      @@TacCom I think an adequate comparison is Call of Duty. That series also went 15 years of putting out essentially the same game every year until 2019, when Modern Warfare shook up the formula. Due to the extensive gunsmithing feature, you can spend countless hours grinding all unlocks for all weapons and camos. And even up until the launch of MWII a few months ago, new items were continually added to the store.
      On top of that, the core gameplay is very fun. The guns feel great, sound great, and provide satisfaction. Plus, Warzone is endlessly replayable, due to the Infinite amount of scenarios you can encounter, from intense Gulag matches to lucky loot to crazy final circles. There's a reason the battle royale genre is still extremely popular. It always finds a way to keep the experience exciting.

  • @Wongatello
    @Wongatello Před rokem

    Pretty good summary of how most veteran/hardcore fans feel. I stopped playing once I finished grinding out the last of the achievements and that was over a year ago. I've only looked at returning to help some friends get specific achievements, but none of us truly feel like it. I think the Gears franchise feels directionless at the moment. It tried to be everything at once in 5 and failed to do any of them well, or do it justice (open world, choices that actually alter the ending, etc). And as we've said countless times some of the design decisions were just baffling, loss of the War Journal, not knowing what to do with extra cards in Horde/Escape (before we could scrap dupes), etc. Several members of the community offered up good feedback and all of it was ignored. I really wonder what they're going to do for 6 because it kinda feels like they've painted themselves into a corner.

    • @TacCom
      @TacCom  Před rokem +1

      Honestly, surprised you grinded out all of the achievements! To me, they were clearly "grind machines" intended to keep people playing, but "fun" wasn't considered at all. Some of them seem completely outrageous, and it was a complete turn-off.

      But totally agree, these were grindy achievements to 'extend' the life of the game, not fun at all. Looking forward to your achievements video.

  • @Wanzie
    @Wanzie Před rokem +1

    In my personal opinion I feel like Gears 5 really derailed from a lack of direction and a lot of bugs. The game fails to pay attention to detail that past Gears have done pretty well. For example, one of the simplest things is stat tracking. GoW 3 did a really nice job with it where you still had the war journal to see your collectables, credits, overall kills and weapon usage times as well as tiers of medals to grind through making the goal of maxing out the medal pretty fun as well as the potential to earn character skins. Gears 5 lacks a war journal tab, can only view collectables while in the middle of a campaign playthrough, and only some of the playlists track stats properly and what stats they do have tracked are very random. For multiplayer, they definitely need modes for more casual players as well as spaces for the competitive community to still play. Gears is a very hard game to learn if you wanna play multiplayer competitively and unless you have a friend who's good at the game and is willing to teach you, you wont stand much of a chance in comp modes. I'd like to see modes that allow ways to bridge that gap to teach players game mechanic skills who are interested in getting more competitive so the game can be inclusive to more players overall. I'd also like to see a solid tuning for the weapons/runspeed because another place where Gears 5 fails online competitively is netcode issues. To elaborate the game has a hard time accurately keeping track of what you see, what the enemy player sees and what the server sees. Last thing i'll touch on for multiplayer is the Operation 5 tuning change. The game had a faster tuning at one point and felt more fun to play but TC had a new build in the works they weren't too vocal about. By the time the new tuning was gonna be implemented, everyone found out and backlashed saying to revert back. However TC gave multiple people 1,000+ year bans for having a differing opinion. So I believe that in itself created a large divide between hardcore players, the game and the developers. After that happened a lot of people including myself did leave the game, some maybe returning for an occasional game with friends but most never returned. Moving forward I think Horde needs some changes in terms of options or modes, Escape was a cool concept but a little repetitive to keep you entertained for long periods of time in my opinion. All in all I'd like to see Gears of War 6 be something that builds off things all the previous titles did right.

    I didn't know Gears 5 existed tbh, I thought 4 was the last one. So that's why I didn't play it, but it also came out when I took a long break from gaming so it makes sense. But even now looking at it I wouldn't play it. After a while I mainly played Gears for campaign after wasting way too much of my life playing online in the first 3 games, and the new story and characters just don't seem all that great or thoughtful, but the story was basically over and they were forced to keep producing games so the storyline will get diluted naturally

    probably a mixture of missing nostalgia of growing up and playing the game with friends. PVP game modes feel very stale along with static maps that have no real dynamic changes, personally id like to see something like wind flares or toxic being implemented and change the terrain and force players into smaller areas for combat making some areas of the map unusable. forcing some kind of agency, and allowing some kind of variance in the game is not necessarily terrible but adds to the overall design.
    possibly see almost like a defensive/offense-style game mode or even something like a base race (think something like aram from league) where you slowly chip away at bases/hives. spawn timers adjust so there's more of a dynamic tempo style of gameplay. winning and losing teams gain advantages of some kind as they clear the base/tower.
    I think fun game modes are what the game is missing im sure they could implement something that doesn't always have to be balls to the wall hyper bouncing 1v1 shotty central (which is still very fun).

    To me, I felt the story was lackluster. I normally replay the campaign on different difficulties. I played from launch, left then came back. I felt that most of the skins were really bad, like they didn’t fit the gears theme. I also felt like it came to much close to being a fortnite clone. Like with the emotes and the battle pass type of deal. Like there wasn’t anything to actually unlock just by playing the game. Like in gears 3 if you wanted the golden hunter character you have to play this mode on this difficult. I kinda enjoyed Escape, cause it was a new idea for the series. I didn’t really care much for horde, even with the gears 2 version of it. Which is nearly unfair due to the game mode itself is built around the fabricator, not only that if you went to look for an online match. Barely anyone played engineer forcing people to either join the game and have a less than fun time or just leave in general. I kinda prefer the gears 3 style of horde where anyone can build anything.

    There's multilple reasons why i stopped playing gears 5 very quickly after it came out , i could summerize it by saying it was worse than gears 4 which was already worse than the first trilogy (horde aside maybe).
    I pre ordered the ultimate version of gears 5 (100$ if i remember correctly) and i was immediateley dissapointed : the campain was short , bland , with some open-wolrd attempt that didn't feel good at all , and the coop was for 2 players while i wa expecting it could be for 4 players (feel free to correct me if i'm wrong , i haven't play any GOW since like 3 years)
    The multiplayer (which was my main thing) was off , the feeling of the gold old gears wasn't there , the poping sound of headshots and body kills with the gnasher , the blood and bodies exploding , the crossbow felt off aswell , the robots (can't remember how they're called) instead of the locusts felt off , the intial maps were either bad (both in term of layout and atmosphere) or just remakes. The gunplay felt more casual with the crosshair on the screen etc.
    The game was filled of glitches and bugs. They implemented things like emotes and stuff like in fortnite (and i actually like fortinte and i was playing it a lot when gears 5 came out , it's just that when i launch a GOW i expected to see GOW shit , not fortnite shit).
    There's was nothing to earn (like the golden hunter in gears 3 for instance) , only mediocre stuff to buy.
    The game started to feel like a second job with their battlepass system.
    I played a bit of escape mode and i didn't find it very enjoyable , clearly not as much as the horde. Horde was fine as far as i can remember.
    Overall i paid more money than for the previous gears , for a worse product , filled with bugs , microtransactions , a bad campain , nothing to work towards but doesn't feel to much like a grind , and a bit lack of atmosphere that gears 1 2 3 gave me. Gears 5 just didn't really feel like a gears to me , just a way for company to make money off old player's nostalgia , they had my money for this one , good for them but lost all potential money for dlcs and microtransactions but also for a potential gears 6 (at least i won't buy it at lauch and not full price either).
    I will maybe play it a little bit just to how it changed but i don't expect anything.

    The reason lots of us stopped playing is because the content they bring into the game barely has anything new. They've recycled and brought back the old skins so much and haven't made many great new skins or maps. Why do they bring back these characters we've unlocked in every gears game like it's something new. I don't know but i can only unlock kantus in every game so many times before i don't feel anything when they announce what should be a launch skin as dlc. They barely put any effort into the new skins or maps they just bring back old characters and maps because they know we'll just suck it up and play it. I used to love maps like gridlock but now whenever i see it as the next new map for dlc i get frustrated because it should be something new they put lots of effort into not a map they've brought back so much. Also horde is the most boring thing in the world for most gears players. It is fun at launch but how many waves of 50 can you do before it's so boring you end up just watching a movie and barely pay attention because it's the same shit as horde has been since gears 2. The ai feels just as stupid since gears 2 but now we can build bases. As for fun i think gears peaked at gears 3. Whenever i turned that game on i could play all day having fun. What i think gears need which most people won't agree with is it needs to slow down and for the fans since gears 1 they will understand, they need to bring back sticking to cover for even a split second none of this canceling bullshit like in the new ones. Or introduce a new system for cover so you can cancel but if you cancel once you stick for a split second after you try to bounce again. Players need to be punished for the mistakes they make more. It's obvious what they're doing isn't working we can all agree on that.

    For me, it´s the new characters (especially kait), i don´t like them. And yeah it´s like you said, the rage if i or somebody else mess up can lead to heat up enviroment online.

    Gears 5 was awful man, 4s campaign was meh but the multiplayer towards the end of its lifecycle was pretty good, and it was criminal how much of a step back gears 5 was

    I have stopped to play Gears for a long time...but I still check it's Facebook everyday...and hoping for something really interesting and I can go back to play.... but days after days … all I saw is different kind of skins and cosmetic things...…. so disappointing.... the soul of Gears of war had long gone now..... I used to play Gears from 1 to 5 ... if there will be a Gears 6 ...I dont think I will play it......

    Unpopular opinion but gnasher needs to change. Smaller reticle, tighter spread like fortnite. Ironically fortnite was started by gears devs. It will reduce the "why didnt they die?" factor. Gnasher is not a skill weapon but its what we hardcore vets gravitated towards however its a meta casuals dont understand and even come to hate. As a gears vet I'm tired of the weapon sandbox. I know other gears fans will hate me but gears needs an entire revamp of its shooting mechanics. Fortnite style shotguns and rifles with classic gears movement.
    But if they do that most gears vets will cry and complain so maybe just kill gears and make a spin off or new IP.

      I'd love a new sandbox and tuning.
      ...but as an optional mode.
      Like, keep the classic Gears we know and love, but give the option to try something new - even if just to take a break.
      Even something like Arcade (as much as people hated it) was a really nice change of pace and rather refreshing.

    if you want a real reason from a genuine religious gears of war player, the latest gears of war game has terrible in game content as well as terrible gameplay. the best thing about the game is the graphics I’ll give it that(really amazing). The Coalition cant decide which players to listen to either. The casual or the Pros/Competitive players. The thing is the pros will play regardless. the casual players come and go. Anything it should be a fun experience for the both toes of players, the competitive players who play more should regularly find the game more enjoyable as to how they felt in previous gears of war titles. Gears 5 was a flop simply because they couldn’t decide what they wanted to do with the game itself. Nothing new to added the the gears serious besides escape and the campaign. They could honestly be a little more creative with the multiplayer itself. I myself have asked for a tuning slider of different operations. Some players perfer previous operations and their tunings. The game feels super clumky to me, although the it’s not unplayable, im custom games i would at least like to move faster.

    O just 1 more thing! The bots on every other gears actually played with some conviction. Gears 5 bots don't pick up power weapons or anything. Not even playing on advanced. I mean man give a little bit of challenge. I'm talking about playing AI in like King of the hill,team death match,exct.

    • @TacCom
      @TacCom  Před rokem

      I think that may be from player feedback. I think they over-prioritized pickups, and players were annoyed that bots kept stealing them. I could be wrong, but I think I remember that being an issue TC addressed.

    The connection is horrible in gears. Bullets don't do damage against high ping players. Not fun at all.

    it is the largely the same for 15 years, but a progressively worse version in nearly every aspect. from the players playing the game, the game itself and for damn sure the people making it. could be said about gaming in general, but gears, especially, became so addled by and imbued with the current issues plaguing the industry, it could be the fucking poster child.
    the irony is that most of the games that do exactly what this franchise did, are given awards and sell considerably more.
    world is a dumpster fire, but you can smell the hot shit that is gears, even still.

    Because gears 4 and 5 are trash compared to gears 2 and 3. TC won't remaster gears 2 and 3 because it would outsell gears 4, 5, and 6 combined and prove they are inferior to Cliff and old gears makers. Gears 1-3 originals out sold gears 4 and 5 by tens of millions. TC is a dumpster 🔥. Gears 4 is a clone of gears 3 with better graphics faster frame rate and way crapper maps. Gears 5 is a judgement clone.

      @Bipolar Express nope. They won't. Would make The Coalition look like crap my dude. That's why they didn't already do it and making you wait for gears 6....

    • @wdtipvr1888
      @wdtipvr1888 Před rokem

      @Bipolar Express gears 1 through 3 remake would outsell gears 4 through 6. You think The Coalition would stay employed after that? The original gears 1 through 3 made over a billion as a trilogy. Gears 4 and 5 combined didn't sell over 3 million units.. you do the math

    Gears 5 is pathetic. I have been playing Gears of War 4 and its loads of fun. You can really get a sense of the "quality vs quantity" when you compare the two. 4 had so many unique and well put together maps, multiplayer is still competitive with a ranking system and people can't lunge at you across the map with the melee like they can in 5 🤣. I really hope they release Gow2 UE on the the newest unreal engine before they release Gears 6, but im not holding my breath.
