  • *TYPO ALERT - at 17:05 I show the compression adjustments. Welp, total brain fart and I don't even know how I messed that up, but those numbers are completely off. A little less sugar for me while I'm editing...
    LSC = 12 clicks
    HSC = 16 clicks
    My bad :)
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    I've received a ton of requests for this video, so I took some time on the trails with my Fox 36 GRIP2 fork, which has been my favorite fork I've ever owned.
    In this video I cover the benefits of the GRIP2 damper plus a complete in-depth setup guide with tips and tricks to getting your damper dialed!
    Air Pressure & Sag - 3:02 / High Speed vs Low Speed Impacts - 7:11 / Rebound - 9:12 / Compression - 16:39 / Progression - 21:54

    Mike & the Lost Co team, thank you for all your time/effort on putting together yet-another mind-blowing epic "ah-ha!" video (just as epic as your 1hr 'fork service' video)!! This approach is very practical and so different from all the conventional how-to videos & mfg manuals (ie. about how to push down for sag measure at 4:20), yet is so well-articulated on what's-for-what on trails that it all makes sense. I watched it a few times slowly with many pauses to fully understand, pre-set a baseline in my garage, then hit the trails today for micro-adjustments, and - voila! - my fork is like a completely different fork! Although I had taken my time to carefully dial in my current fork and happily settled as such for the past 2yrs, this is another new "high" with my same fork. To put it in dog analogy (LOL), I'd say my current fork was previously set like a "border collie" (always on the go-go-go) for the past 2yrs (I loved it), but now my fork is more like a "great dane" (tall/composed & reserved - so calm/quiet) thru gnar - and I love it!! Just after doing my fork oil change with the new seals I got from Lost Co over the weekend, this video was perfect timing to completely revisit my fork setup. Thanks again for this awesome in-depth tutorial!

    Thank you for posting this, I am coming off a Bronson with a Pike fork that I loved (bike burned in recent fires) and I updated to a Nomad with the Fox 36 fork and found the fork to be really harsh and the handling was not great at high speeds - was getting deflected a ton. I added 2 air tokens per your suggestion, backed off on High Speed Rebound and backed off on High Speed Compression and it helped a ton.

    I want to thank you for this video. It really helped me realize I wasn’t utilizing my fork’s full potential. I thought I was just bad lmao. What I didn’t know was that my high speed rebound was too high so I was bouncing around and chattering around in rock gardens. Now with my settings dialed in, I can rip through that same section TWICE as fast and yet still feel so comfortable. I might still be a terrible rider, but at least I have more confidence! Thanks!

    This is the best 36 grip 2 video out there. Thanks!
    I wanted to point something out about this fork, not sure if you mention it in other vids. The "zip tie" trick where you carefully slide a zip tie past the seal and release air makes a HUGE difference in this fork. Mine got to this weird point where I had to lower my pressure 20psi to get proper sag, and was just pounding my arms to pieces. Tons of stiction too, I thought my damper was going out but didn't know what was going on. Last ditch before taking it to a shop, I did the zip tie thing and air came out. Not a *ton* of air, mind you, but noticeable. The fork instantly went back to buttery magic. The difference seriously blew my mind and the fork went from meh, back to the best fork ever. It's not for nothing that the new Foxes have an air burp button on them to do this same thing.

  • @TFritz82
    @TFritz82 Před 4 lety

    This opened my mind up to the possibility of actually trying more sag/less pressure with my 36 170mm Grip 2 fork. I'd previously been between 15 and 20% sag. So, I added a second volume spacer and dropped pressure some for 25% sag and am about to do some test-n-tune today! I'm just shy of 200 lbs in gear and noticed by trying to set sag with your method of hanging above the bars, I'd be running a bunch more pressure to get 30% ish sag, closer to 1 psi per kg of body weight which seemed a bit much for my general application and trails. Thanks for sharing your methodology, Mike. Much appreciated 🤙

    Great video, might have already been pointed out but the GRIP2 has about 9 LSR/HSR clicks, 12 LSC and 16 HSC. Sometimes clicks vary by 1 or 2 because of manufacturing of the dial detents, which is why you measure from closed not open (those "extra" clicks would have no impact as circuits would be fully open by then anyway).

    Perfect! This video really helped me out. Finally got a Fox 38 fork with the Grip 2 and was having a hard time dialing in the front to feel nice. The compression was the trick. My fork was diving way too much on the steep and turns. During the ride I was messing with the rebound. No wonder I was never able to get the front to feel nice like the stock grip damper that came with my bike. Gonna go out for another ride and dial in rebound first than compression. Really useful info :)

    Been out of the game for a bit and dived back in recently, and this viddy brought me to where I need to be. Last bike was 2006ish via a trek to- fuel 98. Now grabbed an Alchemy and the differences in tech are pretty dope. My biggest gripe is the drastic change in rider position and frame sizing. But I dig it. One love

    Cool vid! Now I can sound like rider A out there. I did miss the typo comment up top and had my compression quite off though haha. It still rode amazingly. Thanks Mike and team.

    When you reduce positive chamber volume you change the ratio between possitive and neg. chamber...that is why the sensitivity from the begining is better witkh tokens. Very good video!

    Just bought a Specialized pemberton edition bike with this fork in 150 mm and was having trouble getting my settings right and honestly the Fox website wasn’t much help so thank you very much for this in-depth setup guide 👍😎

    Great video. I am waiting for the delivery of my new Orbea Rallon which will be fitted with the new Grip2 fork (and the nbew Flost X2 shock). I'm new to MTB but I ride and used to race motorcycles (roadracing) and setting up suspension, aside from measurable sag, has always been a struggle for me. Being in California your examples in the video are perfect as I can apply my style with your different examples. My only advice that made a difference for me when explaining high speed and low speed differences, whether rebound or compression, would be that it refers to shaft speed. You do say it, maybe just revisit a couple times. Awesome video, saving it for when the bike shows up, which can not be soon enough.
