2025 Fox 36 & 38 Explained | GRIP X2 & GRIP X Dampers
The Fox 36 and 38 are two of the most popular forks on the trails with their massive adjustability and confidence-inspiring traction. The model year 2025 forks have received some updates like new bushings and a new limited edition color (VERY GOLD). However, the most important updates are the new dampers - the GRIP X2 and GRIP X. The GRIP2 has been replaced by the new GRIP X2 with the same adjustments, but an increased range of tunability and a bump in performance. The GRIP X replaces the FIT4, but is designed very similar to the GRIP X2 and simplifies the adjustability for a more broad range of riders.
In this video, Mike shares the details on the new updates for model year 2025 Fox forks and shares his first review of the GRIP X2 and compares it versus the GRIP2 damper.

The RockShox Vivid is back from the dead and ready to tear up the trails with sensitivity that parallels a coil shock, but with much more adjustment from the new high-volume Debonair air spring. The Vivid features an RC2T damper with TouchDown technology which bypasses compression damping in the first 10% of travel for an extremely smooth and sensitive initial stroke. I've heard of Kamloops, BC for their famous Kamloops Bike Ranch, but I didn't realize there was also a totally separate trail network full of high-speed singletrack. Got a flat on the rear (dhr2 exo+)… going to get double down.
Keep your semi-slicks, Slick. I have Dissectors front and rear, and they are Totally Gnarly, Dude!
What zen is he reviewing I can’t remember hearing it is it the ultimate
Thanks!

When I upgraded from sram rsc to shimano saint I was amazed. Idk if I'll ever try another set of brakes because the saints are just perfect for me
You just need a wooden door put wheels on it and shred -Sam Pilgrim

"you can't change your eye to eye length" At your own risks ... 😂
I noticed you saturated both foam rings with only one type of oil, but doesn't each side of the fork take different oil. I know you said that's ok, but I did notice that my old foam rings had different types of oil (one was saturated with the red stuff and the other was more yellow) -> I'm assuming that means they were saturated with the two different oil from the factory.
How did you find a pair of my Grandfather's glasses?
What about the 38 performance vs the 38 factory, or the 38 performance vs the zeb select
А нахуя? Тефлона меньше положили?😂
I just picked up a new 2025 Factory 38 Orange .Feels great . Didn't like the look of the new Black or Gold versions .
I wanna ride here sooooo bad lol
I only wanted to hear about the xc tires.
Now you tell me. I just spent a better part of an afternoon trying to hunt down that PTFE oil as I couldn't find it anywhere. I didn't see anything on Fox's specs about swapping the two but this would have made things much easier haha.
It’s cool but seems too expensive for what it is
What size do you wear?
These or the Triggers? GO!!
Use any dollar store baby oil to clean any part of your bike shock. If its safe on an ass its safe on rubber and your precious bike. Thumbs up, good vid. There is no "magic juice"....its all natural ingredients, just have to do some research, quit buying snake oil ya'll, happy peddling.
I want to ride it !!!!!!
🤦♂️
One of my favorite tires. Business in the front, party in the rear.
Great job as usual guys! Mike, curious as to which damper and travel length you guys are running on your SJ Evo's. I know a lot of people go 170 and set them up to be soft off-the-top and still have the reserve in the mid-stroke and on, especially on the 36's. Maybe with the new damper I can get that suppleness and keep the quicker steering GEO of a 160 and the benefit of lighter weight with a 36 X. Thanks!
Hey there! For the purpose of testing the new forks, I was running a 38 GRIP X2 with 170 travel and Steve was running a 36 GRIP X at 160 travel. Personally, I would go with a 36 GRIP X2 at 160 for my long-term fork as I really like the geometry of the bike with a 160 fork, and the GRIP X2's adjustability would match my preferred Float X2 rear shock. To me, the difference of a +10mm fork travel really doesn't make that much of a noticeable difference on a trail bike in my brain for whatever reason. This is likely because I also have an enduro bike with a 180mm fork, so I prefer to keep my trail bike more snappy and lively rather than trying to make my trail bike feel more like a 'big' bike. Also, I think the GRIP X is a better damper for most folks out there as the addition of high-speed rebound tends to really confuse people. Sometimes, or most of the time, a more simplified set of adjustments is actually better for most riders. Personally, I would recommend fully dialing in your 160mm fork setup before even thinking about bumping up travel to 170mm. I do often see folks get frustrated with adjusting their knobs and then just throw a longer air shaft in the fork to hope that it suddenly just fixes whatever "issues" they are experiencing which could easily be fixed with a little patience in their setup procedure. -Mike
Don’t listen to big suspension guys…. It’s a conspiracy just use olive oil on the lowers and massage coconut oil on the stantions… World Cup mechanic told me this in confidence
I can highly recommend the sprindex. It's an adjustable spring, so you can just try different weights. Also you can tune it one fly, mid ride.
Nice choice of frame Mike!!! Love my 3 NS frames...Snabb E, surge and my clash....I'll be walking into yr shop in about 5 weeks time....coming from the other side of the world to ride a tiny part of yr side of the world 😉😉👍
I was hoping to see the reversed shock style for the new 2025 Fox. That would have been a huge change. This color is just not sitting well lol IMO. FOX is indeed nice AF though.
Sweet lines mate, see yawl in 6 weeks time from Oz....

Nice bro
I just purchased the 160mm Domain on sale for $260. I could NOT pass up that price.
How do these compare to Stram Maven and Hope Tech V4?
Keep your eyes out for a Hope Tech 4 V4 video in the next 1-2 weeks! We also talk about the Mavens in there a bit.
@@TheLostCo nice!
Thanks mate
Reminds me of the old hope 6 pot caliper, ugly.
The amount of money many guys spend on bikes is phenomenal. But then it puts used bikes on the marketplace for those of us that can't lay out those dollars new.
So 5W is the reason my riding sucks?
That is a massive gimmick
That's what I originally thought, but this has been more beneficial to my riding than many other parts that I've tried over the years. -Mike
I’m sure enjoying my Disector in place of a DHRII
What a beautiful form on the turn Mr Turtle Neck!! 😂😅😂
What's up mate! Can I install a Cane Creek DB Kitsuma Coil on a stumpy Evo?
You rated the grip2 as good …. They are terrible ! I can not trust your reviews now… But it has to better then the previous rubbish
What don't you like about the GRIP2? I've honestly loved it since it was released, and I've always felt extremely comfortable on it. That is my personal opinion in which some riders will agree and some will disagree. -Mike
But why are you pumping all of that energy into your suspension if you're riding on roads?...
Combining the two in equal parts makes it Fox 4.5w 😮
I would like to see all the best current tech in a 10 speed. 12 is honestly way more than most of us need.
the domain 160mm is on sale right now for $250 which is crazy. i want to get it but honestly, it's way more fork then i need not to mention I think my frame would be pretty overforked.
Nah black hole hobby I’m going back to my skateboard
I didn't even know it could be replaced, my bike still has the factory oil from like 15 years ago ☠️
I'd be surprised if there's any oil left
@@trailfork7815 It's never had any apparent leaks, and I never really take it to the mountain, at most gravel and dirt paths in the woods. When there is no oil does it get stiffer or softer?
@@goncaloferreira6863 stiffer and if left long enough water can get inside and makes smoothie out of everything
@@trailfork7815 ohhh... yeah it's empty. The shocks are damn near rock hard. I'll have to check them. Thanks for the info
